Its not normalized in the UK. To Indians maybe. The other groups such as Pakistanis have always started race riots from the Bradford riots to the West Midland riots since the 1970s. My biggest gripe, as an Indian who has grown up in India, is that the hatred for our own people is mad high in not only our own country but South asian communities in other countries too. Your portrayal of our 'weird' accent and our exaggerated body language is only funny to a certain extent. There are so so many ethnically south asian people in the english speaking countries that have contributed to this. Interesting enough, the target is usually their parents generation. Why? Simply because they have an Indian accent. Don't get me wrong, the desi trauma is real and full fledged, but we have only so much respect as we give to the portrayals of those immigrants that came to your countries. Talking about trauma is not bad. Making fun of our culture and english for appeal most certainly is. I think the first time I saw a good portrayal of ACTUAL indian (one of the indian accents) was in Never have I ever. As a teen entering my 20s soon, that aspect of humanization of our tongue in hollywood was mindblowing to me. Please don't make things harder for the rest of us just because we speak differently from you. Edit: I'm not saying NHIE did not have any problems but I guess the bar was already in hell for me so...
