Wow, you've really showcased this hike. The shots, the transitions, the editing, the humour 👌. Most people don't know much effort goes into creating videos - camera set ups, walk out and back, camera retrievals, keeping everything charged etc, then watching all your footage, scouring through the best parts and then the editing begins (which in my case, seems to take longer than the actual hike). Thankyou for putting so much time into this. It's a must watch for anyone wanting to do Routeburn.

I remember stopping at the divide while driving to Milford for kayaking….was so car-sick I made the tour bus stop so I could get out and be sick! Only part of the Routeburn I have done so far. But seriously, on my list for next trip to NZ!

Haha what a memory to have! We stopped at the Divide on the way home from the Milford and it felt strange to be there again, some kind of Matrix alternate universe feeling 😂

Unfortunately due to flyingkiwi not booking/arranging this hike timely enough, I didn't get to do it on my trip through NZ (did part of the Tongariro, the other vid, though, basically your day 1, as a daytrip). Great video, gives a good image of what I missed :/

The scenery in NZ is just otherworldly compared to Alpine Victoria. I can see why the track is considered a Great Walk!

I can remember the first time I came to New Zealand a few years ago, we were driving in the car with friends on the North Island and we were so amazed at the mountains. We hadnt even got to the South Island yet. I think we all imploded when we saw the mountains out the window for the first time :P

@@settohike Thanks for the reply. I'm hoping to go to NZ later this year as my first international trip since COVID, so am looking forward to that. Did you have to book many weeks in advance for the campsites and huts on this track and the Tongoriro Circuit?

Stunning scenery, beautifully portrayed in a well filmed and produced movie. Thank you so much - we've done some great hiking in NZ but the Routeburn remains to be attacked! You really nailed the weather. Big thanks from Sydney - Dave and family

@settohike Going in April I was worried, but we got lucky. With forecast in hand, we changed to the early bus to get to Falls hut before the weather arrived. Enjoyed watching the instant waterfalls from the verandah. Cleared day 2 so we climbed Conical Hill and got the views in between waves of cloud. Picture perfect blue sky on day 3. Snowed the week before so the peaks were nicely dusted. Finished at Freg. Hiking team loved it so much we are now planning 'Tongariro 2025' (link to your video forearded for inspiratio) and 'Kepler 2026'.

I had a cnoc bladder that I would fill with water that connects to my sawyer squeeze and filters into a 1L plastic water bottle. On shorter trips though I usually just bring along water purification tablets like Aquatabs. :)

Love your vids. While watching I noticed that you are using hiking poles incorrectly. Your hand should go UP through the wrist straps and you should be grasping strap and poles together or at least that's what I have been taught. Thought being, if you trip and go to grab say tree or branch, the pole will fall out of your hand leaving it empty to grab things or catch yourself. The way your doing it , if you open your hand the pole obstructs your palm thus making it hard to grab at things. Give it a try and you see what I mean. Keep hiking and making vids. Happy Trails from the USA 🇺🇸

Beautiful footage - you were blessed with perfect weather. It still astounds us that NZ requires/people still wear useless obedience masks…will the populace ever recover from the massive psychological abuse?

haha this was filmed at the time when wearing masks was still compulsory in public, otherwise we wouldn't have been allowed on the bus 😂
