Appreciate the video. I just received my camp chef stove today. I was reading in the manual that the top needs to be at least 6 inches from the top ridge of the tent. You could probably remove one section of pipe and make setting up a tad easier. Looking forward to checking out your other videos. Thx!

Thanks for letting me know and thanks for the tip. One thing I'm working on now is using some heat resistant tape around the door to restrict the oxygen from getting into the stove as it has been running to hot. It could be to much of a stove for my 10'x10' tent or I just need to be able to shut down things more. I'll let you know how the next tests go and let me know if you have any issues with it running to hot. Rick

@@mikenrickoutdoors I bought my stove as an emergency back up for my house. For camping I have the Kodiak 10x10 (spring) and I use a buddy heater. Two weeks ago it was 22F and the heater only got the tent to 50F. I think I'm going to invest in the Big Buddy. A 10x10 is just not big enough for a stove when you have two people plus to your point it can put out a lot of heat. Less to pack, no firewood.... for me I I think its best since my trips are 3 nights max.

The Big Buddy does put out a lot more heat and it's nice to have a 20 pound propane tank hooked up to it, then you can run it on high for around 24 hours. I have used the Big Buddy twice in temps down to 12 degrees and lately down to 20 degrees and it handled that well in my Kodiak Canvas 10'x10' tent. My 10x10 may be to small for that stove, but it actually works for me as it's a 1-person tent when I go camping. Thanks for letting me know how you use your stove and tent. Rick

@@mikenrickoutdoors That run time is good about the Big Buddy. I usually take two tanks. I do like the concept of a stove, perhaps a smaller light weight stove would be better for a 10x10? I will look into other stove options.

Same here on the stove sizes. That's one of the things I am moving towards to test a lot in the next few years. Rick

Very happy to have found this. I am planning a winter solo camping trip with my three dogs next winter in Washington state, I'm getting this stove with the Kodiak lodge. I'm planning on 3 months in the back country Nationall forest. Every little tip helps..I'm definitely going to have my husband modify the stove pipe with screws., and tie downs. The tip about step stool was awesome because I am small and would never have thought of that. Thank you for doing these videos!

Always glad to help. Make sure you test the stove out at home. I'm having to add some fire resistant seals around the door to help control the oxygen level to the stove at it has been running to hot for me on several camping trips. I love the stove but just test it to see if you need to make any adjustments to it before heading out. Rick

Nice idea with the rain cap. I have the same set up and I was worried about rain rusting out my stove.
@mikenrickoutdoors
@mikenrickoutdoors Жыл бұрын
Glad I could help. That would be a concern. Someone mentioned that the rain cap may cause some embers to be re-directed to the top of the tent and could catch it on fire, but this is something I need to research more and will actually contact Kodiak Canvas about. Just thought I would let you know of a potential problem with the rain cap. Rick

I wondered how to install the dampener... it looks like you didn't record that part.

My tents jack flap rolls down out of the way on my outfitter tent ,never seen anyone use a floor in a hot tent ever though, don't yours come out ?? And i put 2 sections in the stove first and then slide the next sections through the roof if I'm using separate pipe sections, generally i use a one piece titanium roll pipe its way quicker
@mikenrickoutdoors
@mikenrickoutdoors 2 ай бұрын
No, the floor is permanent, that's why I use two heat shields. good point on the pipe sections through the roof. Rick

Biggest problem I have with this stove is overfiring it , occasionally it will jump to 1000° degrees and then I got to knock it back a bit with the dampers ,still can't find the sweet spot

I had the same problem and I believe it's due to too much air coming through the edges around the door so I bought some heat resistant tape to put around the door to see if that helps me control the air flow, and in turn helps me keep the temperature down. I wanted to test it on this weeks camping trip to SW Colorado but I had too much gear with me. I will be testing it out in the coming weeks in November to see if this is a solution. If not, I'll switch to another wood stove. Rick

I’ve heard people having issues with the rain cap throwing embers back down on to the tent. Have you noticed anything?

Mike and I both have these tents. Mike has the 12'x12' and I have the 10'x10'. Mike has the Winnerwell stove and I have the Camp Chef stove and both have different rain caps. I know this is a concern but it has not been an issue with me when using it multiple times in all types of weather. Rick

Did the rope hold up for the stove pipe? I would use wire to secure the pipe btw I just burned in my camp chef stove. VERY pleased w the stove but also wonder if it will be too hot but better than being cold. What do you bring to put the ashes in if you burn the night before departure? I also just pre drilled screw holes to secure the pipe sections. Also considering the Kodiak tent, does the 12x12 work better for two people than the 10x 10? I will be setting up on my own land for the entire hunting season so portability is not an issue. What do you use to rewaterproof the tent & how often?

No, the rope started burning at the top so I switched to a wire chain, which works much better. I empty the ashes out into a campfire pit. I think the 12'x12' tent is much better for two people. You can make the 10'x10' tent work, but Mike has the 12'x12' and I would go with that for two or more people, especially when you have a wood stove, tables, chairs, cots, etc. I don't waterproof my tents and I have never had any leaking or waterproofing issues. Hi rick , do you prefer the camp chef stove or the the one that mike has ? Now that you tried both. Thank you

Honestly, I like the Winnerwell stove better. It's smaller, it has the glass window on the side that allows me to see the fire, plus Mike can control the oxygen better in his stove to keep it from running as hot. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick

When you laid the pipe horizontal through the roof you should have installed the top section! Then you install on to stove
