Great upgrade to a rock solid NS-2 that for decades has been a pedal “that just works”. Hidden feature that nobody seems to know or talk about is, if you’re in mute mode.. you can press and hold the pedal and it will switch to gate mode, the left 1/2 of the indicator lights up…then press and hold again and it switches to noise suppressor, the right side of the indicator lights up. Pretty cool little feature BOSS thought of.🤘

Very good demo. I used a Boss Noise Gate for many years, I noticed that Yngwie was using one so I basically did what he did. After a while I found it was negatively affecting my tone, so I went with the ISP Decimator. But this one looks like it is worth further investigation. I also tried a very expensive Zuul pedal, but found that it was actually making noise rather than reducing noise!

Excellent tutorial and demo sir.. I've not had the pedal format I don't believe, but I've had it with multi effects.. I always used it by turning it up until it killed the hiss and noise but not cutoff my lead bends, etc.. One reason I love EMG's and active pickups is that they don't have the annoying noise floor.. Plus, you don't have to turn up the gain on your amp so much which also reduces noise. Great demo brother.. Always good stuff here.. Be well and have a great rest of the week.. I'm off to work.. I was supposed to be off, but the owner has to see the doctor and asked if I would work and I had to say yes.. They are such nice people.. Take care kind sir.. Tim

I’m actually thinking of getting this to pair with an older 80’s Ibanez rack delay that suffers from massive ground hum. I replaced the two prong cord with a grounded three prong power cord but it still suffers from ground noise/hum. I use older racks with my Tascam Model 24 in the effect send/return and feel they would benefit from having this clean up their signal.

Great review Leon! I recently purchased several Sire L7H guitars; I ordered the NS-1X in the hope that it will clean up the P-90 pickup noise. I love the clarity of P-90s but cannot stand the buzzy noise that they produce. What are your thoughts on power conditioners? I am looking at several line conditioners made by Furman; any suggestions? Cheers!

I was looking into this for the SY1000 Leon, as you know you have a NS for each E Gtr, but only one in the FX blocks, OK I am using clean, rolled off Jazz tones, but thought I could run another NS through the send and return and then place it where I like with Synths etc. That diagram is really awesome by the way! 🤣👍🤘

As usual, another excellent, informative video which I will need to rewatch. The whole Boss X series seems like the digital version of the Waza series to me, which means Boss could really pull something out of the hat re modulation, verb, delay or any combo o that. Seems like they now want to expand on the series which is great. I have the OD-1X (check Jake Cloudchair’s demo) and the CP-1X, both have helped reduce my analog snobbery no end. Hope you’re doing well Leon…seems like you’ve had a rough couple of years in some respects. 👍

I'd set it up so that it places drives/eq's/comps in it's internal loop, but with any delay/reverb after it. You won't be cutting off delay and reverb trails that way.

Awesome demonstration, thank you, Leon! I am curious regarding your experience with this in general. If you don't really use many pedals before the amp and the real source of the noise is the high gain amp channel, is it best to have the noise gate in the effects loop? Or does that cause problems?

@@LeonTodd Thank you! I was paying attention to the awesome diagram, but I still got a bit lost with it because I wouldn't expect a two-input two-output approach on a gate. I was a bit shocked because I think of that kind of pedal being for parallel effects instead of a series unit.

Love the points raised and there's, as usual, lots to think about. I have a real love, hate, hate some more relationship with these things. How about the volume swell problems, or sustained notes all of a sudden rapidly and unnaturally conking out?. what about the delay in the effects...does it let the delay lets say 3 repeats finish after you quit playing fade out naturally then slowly close the gate softly and naturally and not abruptly cut off the repeats before they fade out. the Rocktron hush IIcx does it brilliantly.

I'm thinking of buying a Noise suppressor/gate pedal for the 4 cable method. Which one should I choose between the ISP Decimator II G-String and the Boss NS-1X? Do y'all think the new boss is better than the ISP Decimator II G-String? The Boss is digital but is the ISP analog?
@PippPriss
@PippPriss 9 ай бұрын
Have not tried the NS1X, but I have experience with the Zuul, Rocktron Hush, Boss NS2 and can 100% vouch for the ISP G String Decimator G String II. I was for nearly 7 years or even longer on the quest for the ultimate noise surpressor. What I value is long sustain, super quick attack, natural "sound" (super important when playing stops on thrash metal). I always was shy spending the money on the ISP. Someday I was so frustrated I gave in, and the moment I plugged it in and tried it, I knew may journey was over. PERFECT IN ALL ASPECTS. Got the Decimator G String II since like 2 years or so, and every single time I turn it on I am a happy man.

@5:10 Your tones always sound a bit thin. It's like you've got loads of slushy wet gain which is great but it sounds like the volume knob on the guitar is dialled way back. There's no meat to the tone, it's like it's being sliced by the volume knob. It's the fractal isn't it? I'd boost that bass man. Also, do you think that fractals compliment the guitar player in an artificial way? Where as traditional valve amps, you're on your own? I think they do ya know!
