Groups are usually formed by the company they are trainees for. However, for Stray Kids, Bang Chan picked his own members from JYPE trainees. That's a very rare thing in k-pop... It's like finding a unicorn. 😂
@MalickaNeya Жыл бұрын
To answer your question about how skz was formed. Yes, they auditioned for JYP to become trainees. Everyone joined at different times and they didn't know each other. Trainees often train for years before they can debut. The company usually picks who will debut but because Bang Chan was a trainee for 7-8 years, he got a chance to pick his own members (that doesn't really happen in K-pop). They also had a survival show where they had to prove that they were ready to debut with the members Chan chose (we all still have trauma from it...they eliminated two members only to bring them back at the end...what a relief that was). Chan joined JYP in 2011 when he was 13 and moved to Korea alone. Since then he lived at the dorms and trained with many other trainees (out of which many debuted in other JYP groups, while others left and the lucky ones debuted with other companies, so Chan is friends with half the industry😅 and it's funny to see that to them he is usually the young brother who they adore) but because they kept debuting without him, leaving or being cut he was at one point the only trainee left at JYP so after that he had a hard time befriending the new trainees again. Eventually Han "the first stray kid" joined in 2015 (and we know that Han can be in your face until you like him and he never fails, plus the talent... so Chan never had a chance but to befriend him) followed by I.N (who was part of the weekend trainee program since he was living in Busan and commuting every weekend, Chan actually spent a lot of time helping I.N with his dancing and stuff so he could debut with them) and Hyunjin (Hyunjin was actually scouted because of his looks but he worked really hard to learn dancing and we know what he can do now), then months later Changbin joined (which lead to them forming 3racha and starting making their own songs) then at the end of 2016 or beginning of 2017 Seungmin and Felix, who only knew a little Korean, joined around the same time (Chan liked Seungmin immediately because of his manners, dedication and singing and Felix had his deep voice and was another Aussie like Chan he just didn't want him to end up like him) and then only a few months before the survival show Lee Know joined as an experienced dancer who Chan could share the responsibilities with by making him the dance leader. Chan was really hard on them while they were trainees to ensure that they would all make it and debut together and since he chose them, and not the company, you can tell that they are really close friends. In some companies trainees are often pinned against each other for a spot in a group and then when they make it they are suddenly told to get along... But you can usually tell which groups are close and which are just co-workers.

+ chan once stated that he chose Felix not only because he was fellow Aussie but also he wanted to challenge himself how he could create some new kind of music with Felix's unique voice.

Thank you for the answers and info! It’s mad how if just one of them ended up at a different company we wouldn’t have the SKZ we have today. Also Chan moving alone when he was 13 is crazy, respect the dedication and what a decision it ended up being haha

@@jamieislazy Right? I couldn't imagine spending my teenage years without family and with seeing them only a handful of times since then, and then having any friend that I make constantly leave. I am not surprised that he always talks about the kids actually saving his life. No wonder he treasures them so much, tries to give them the most spotlight and the best parts in songs and is just honestly happy when they are. This is why I admire Chan a lot as a person (even though he is a few years younger than me😅), because I get motivated by him to do better at my job. Yes, so many things could have happened differently. Chan might have become the maknae of got7, the survival show eliminations might have not been reversed, Han might have left Korea again after his school exam, Hyunjin and I.N (our naive boys) might not have ever been heard of again after almost being lured into a cult on two seperate occasions... You know the standard.😅

Seungmin seems to love to bounce. When He and Lee Know were doing DeKiRa, he always left the studio by bouncing side-ways out the door, waving to the camera. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6amdXqtesepfKc Seungmin is 'Hyunjin's singer' He can do no wrong in Hyunjin's eyes. Hyunjin's art is amazing. I am also a cat person. I love dogs, grew up with both, but they need so much more attention. That is a problem when you work all day, get back late and need to take them walking. With cats, as long as they have a clean litter tray, fresh food and water, they are happy

This is how a regular k-pop group is made: Entertainment companies can have internal, external auditions and scouting agents. By using these methods companies find promising kids to join trainee program. It's like second school where trainees get lessons (singing, rapping, dancing...) are repeatedly judged and those who are not improving well enough are cut off. Being trainee is extremely time consuming and usually trainees have no time to even sleep because they need to also attend regular school at the same time. There is no deadline to being trainee so it can be from months to many years. When company has enough funds to sustain one more k-pop group they will do one of the following: privately form a group from their best trainees or make public survival reality show with some of their trainees where judges or audience can vote for final lineup. In both cases it is possible to buy your way into the group. After final lineup is announced it takes from months to years to actually debut. So overall it's very long and taxing process. Stray Kids have a bit different story but others explained how they came to be, so I will not repeat :)

6:19 (sorry for my english, it is not my first language) people (from different ages, some are just 13 year old kids, others are 18-19 teenagers) audition to become trainees for the different k-pop companies and agencies, if they are selected from the auditions then they start training for dancing, singing, rap and other aspects to be able to demonstrate they are good enough to be part of a group (according to the company, the features, skills, or the visuals they want for a new group), and finally debut. In other cases they also audition but to be part of survival shows or contests, were they also have to demonstrate their talent to be part of a group. Some people train for years, other only for months before they debut. Bang Chan trained for almost 7 years for example, that is why he is well-know in his company (JYP) and respected a loot by others because he met a lot of people on those years and trained together with them, like the members of Twice, Got7, Itzy and others that maybe couldn´t achieve to debut. And the members of the groups are carefully handpicked by agencies normally. Stray Kids is a special case, beacuse JYP gave Bang Chan the opportunity to pick his members, they were 9 until 2019, from that year until now they are 8, well that is something you already noticed akjadas. That´s why the k-pop industry sometimes is criticized because they make kids and teenagers go through very difficult processes for years not knowing if they are finally going to success their dream, leading to mental health problems. But also this make us to respect and admire this people that worked really hard to be where they are. I hope this info helps you :D

6:23 so people go to the companies to audition and if they get accepted they become trainees and then the company itself picks a certain amount of people to debut a group, however skz's members got picked by bangchan and they went through a survival show so the company could decide which members could stay or not, lee know and felix got eliminated but they were brought back later so luckily they all debuted, same thing with the group twice which the story is kinda similar, and since they all were trainees, skz and twice plus itzy have a really close friendship

Changbin is the shortest and Bang Chan is fun sized. 😂 They portray Changbin as a pig/rabbit because that is his SKZOO character. It's called Dwaekki. It's pink, has rabbit ears, a pig nose and a pig tail. 😊

Chan actually created the group. They were an experimental group and the company let Chan pick his members. From there 3racha was formed and he continue his music production. They went through a survival show and Felix and lee know were eliminated and then allowed to come back. Chan has copyright to everything down to their name and logo and now here they are 😊

Actually to be an idol you have to addition for an agency and when they get accepted they go through training and become trainee , I don't really know if this what every agency do but mostly trainee go through a survival show and who wins get to form a group. A cool fact, though, chan was the one who picked the members of stray kids and chose the name and the logo . They went through the survival show and debuted as 9 members. I think chan is the only one who picked his members in the whol K-pop industry . He was a trainee for 7 years (from 2012) before his debut.

Groups are made with trainees from companies (like skz is from JYP) you can be a trainee for a really short amount of time like a couple of weeks/a month or a long time like bangchan was for 7 years 😟 They are normally formed by the company itself, but with stray kids chan picked the members himself. I don't think I've seen any other groups do this before either. There's also a chance that some people might never debut in a group if the company doesn't think they're good enough, which is sad. Another person who was a trainee for rlly long is jihyo in twice she was one for 10 years since she was 8 ,so she's been in the industry for abt 17 years which is wild 😧 The members are "fun sized" by the way 🤗 Don't bother reading all this if it's too much 💀💀💀

4:34 It's a portable, usb-powered humidifier (I have the same kind). Vocal performers need to keep their vocal folds moist, and the only ways to accomplish that are through maintaining good hydration (drinking does not directly wet the vocal system -- else you'd basically be pouring water into your lungs -- but it contributes to hydrated tissues throughout the body) and inhalation of moist air. Basically, he's taking extra care of his instrument in that clip by carrying his humidifier around during performance prep. 8:58 They draw Changbin as a "rabbit pig" because that's his SKZOO character and self-beloved personal nickname. Dwaekki ("pig-bunny") = dwaeji (pig) + tokki (rabbit). 15:28 That is -- and I cannot stress this enough -- not even close to the most sus thing they've ever said/done.

8:27 "How do kpop groups get together?" Almost universally (industry-wise), company decision-makers review trainees currently in the company's trainee system and evaluate their various traits (looks, dance skills, rap skills, vocal skills, etc) and -- to be brutally blunt -- selling points. They decide "this one will be the cute, innocent one; that one will be the sexy rebel; this one will be the dance focus; that one will hit all the high notes and get vocalist attention; this one's the rapper" and so forth. In the past, the company often assigned personalities to people -- the sweet one, the shy one, the funny one, the daring one, whatever -- and made them portray those fake personalities. It appears to be less common now, but it's still done sometimes, which is part of the reason you'll see fans often being happy when an idol is doing something pretty obviously honest (showing anger, looking unattractive, chastising fandom misbehavior, whatever). Anyway, the company bigwigs look at the trainees, decide which ones fill which conceptual slots the company has in mind for the new group, and then those trainees are put into the new group and made to figure out how to unite. Either that, or there's a survival show wherein trainees compete against each other during rounds of attrition until the final few remain and get put into the new group, with the bigwigs still able to alter/supplement those results. Which is a significant thing that sets SKZ apart -- they were _not_ formed in either of these ways. Unlike any other group that we know of in the industry, not only did the company not choose them and put them together and make the group, but specifically _the leader_ did. Nineteen-year-old Chan, having been living and training in JYP as a kid on his own in a foreign country since age 13 (in other words, _everyone_ in the company knew him, including the bosses; there's a reason he knows half the industry), was told "Go evaluate your fellow trainees, pick the ones you want, make your own music, bond with each other, train yourselves together as a group, and when you think you're ready, tell us. We'll test you AS A GROUP [all other survival shows are some form of the trainees competing _against_ each other, not competing to stay together], and you'll all have to prove to us that you're ready." Which was the SKZ survival show -- the nine trainees being tested by the company as they fought to stay together and prove themselves ready to debut. SKZ are explicitly -- like, this was said in actual words -- an experiment. Other groups are made by the company, with members generally chosen to fill preset roles of varying levels of flexibility, often with the company deciding the group's concept (metal bad girls, soft bois, vampires, hot model dudes, whatever). SKZ was chosen by their teenage leader, based as much on his consideration of their potential future growth and their personalities/characters as by their extant performance skills. And the concept was (and is) as amorphous as just "The world is changing. With social media and more access, fans can now tell if a group is faking their supposed bond, which is one of the big things we sell fans on. So y'all put yourselves together, the responsibility for everything is on you, build legitimate bonds with each other, and the world can watch your imperfectly developed selves grow and mature and evolve throughout the progress of your career." And yes, that really is basically a paraphrase of JYP's words.
