Satellite imagery shows Sevastopol has been abandoned by Russia with only three combat ships remaining--a Krivak class frigate, the Ivan Khurs intelligence ship and one Grisha-class minesweeper. Three Buyan-M corvettes are missing as are the Tarantul corvettes. Neither at Sevastopol or Novorossiysk.

I get your statement 100%. But you are looking at this from a purely "strategic" point of view. Except that for putler's ru propaganda ideas, Crimea has become part of their modern ideology (2005 and beyond) based on some "mystical" idea of their History as some "timeless" empire. In other words, the whole ru invasion of Ukraine is 50% "conceptually" based on ideas that ru has always been at the center of Europe. Whiles it never was. Proof? russian occupation authorities destroyed the UNESCO-listed city of Chersonesus in SW Crimea and constructed an outdoor theater at the site. This was an ancient Greek colony founded over 2,500 years ago. Why exactly? Because they need to remove any and all remnants of non-ru influences inside Crimea. A bit like the taliban with the Buddha statues back in 2001...

Don’t forget that the Russian oligarchs owned the industrial rights to Donbass manufacturers prior to the invasion. Putin has gained literally nothing more than he already had at the start of the war. Putin is actively mobilizing Russia as a war economy, he faces the same penalties for the cost of continuing the war as equivalent to the cost of occupation meaning he physically can’t pull out now. Russia will grind itself or Ukraine down but will not willingly retreat. Thankfully the Denazification cassus belli is hard to define as a calculable military objective, and for demilitarization and the prevention of nato he has evidently failed miserably. Ukraines military is more militarized than ever before, and with the accession of Sweden & Finland NATO has never had more of a purpose than this moment.

The floating cranes would make great targets for disrupting repairs on ships and bridges. Large cranes are expensive. The barges they're on aren't expensive and are easily replaced. Large cranes are another matter. In combination, we're talking millions of dollars worth of equipment. There are a lot of jobs that simply can't be done without one. Nobody has spare cranes. If one is taken out, replacing it quickly means taking another away from its work. Repairing a certain bridge can't be done easily without floating cranes. Did I mention they often sit in the same place for days on end?

You are now the commander of the Black Sea Fleet. Congratulations! You have just learned there is a possibility that the Ukrainians will attack the Kerch Strait Bridge. If that happens falling debris will block the Kerch-Yenikale Canal preventing the transit of ships between the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. It could take some time to clear the debris so on which side of the strait would you prefer your ships to be?

@@clockworkorangecassidy1114 If I remember it correctly (from reading about it, of course) the Germans already did it at the end of WW1 and sank a russian warship in/near a (then russian) Finnish harbour.

Well, this counts as a mission kill, would rather have more promotions to submarine though.

They are in the new harbor base in Georgia! Near the colemine (that part used to be part of the colemine too) I don't know the place name any more, but they were busy building it last year so to move their black sea fleet towards.

Rostov just saw the jail taken over, temporarily, by IS-F - that earned a visit from Spesnatz, which left no survivors. I wonder if any POWs were present.

Novorossiysk is a temporay and less than optimal solution. drone boats and drones are still able to get there. An when they strap a storm shadow/scalp to a plane the black sea fleet is in range of big boom again. range of cruis missile plus range of plane.

Altitude of the plane launching it: vastly increases the range for the same amount of missile propellant.

What kind of a shitshow this war is for russia can be demonstrated perectly by this example. They invade crimea in 2014 because of it's geostrategic position and the Sevastopol naval base, just to high tail it 10 years later. 😂

Hey, Can you make a big poster for downloading, with all the ships in the Black sea fleet, and a cross over the ships sunk or damaged, so we can continue marking ships out. And let us pay for it somehow.
