Never have I ever been star struck but once. I watched Seve play at St Mellion in the mid 90's. He walked off the final green and I opened my mouth to speak to him. It just stayed open in awe. He literally had an aura around him. I was about 13 and I still feel that feeling of awe when I watch him swing an iron.

When golf was golf, shot making blades woods and early metals.... brilliant. None of this modern 400yds drive crap, should make pros all use blades and smaller heads....then you'll get the best golfers winning. Good stuff this

I used to keep a diary in the late 1980s. I was a teenager who played golf off a low handicap.. I clearly remember logging Seve's wins throughout 1988. The Scandinavian Open was the one I remember the most for some reason. Also, of course I saw him win The Open at Lytham. I even wore a blue Slazenger jumper in his honour.

Yes, they are all boring nowadays, all prima donnas.

Couldn't agree more. When you see McIlroy or Justin Rose interviewed, you can tell instantly that they have zero charm, personality or charisma. Just dull, boring and money obsessed. Personally, I don't think the corporate sponsorship that is all over golfers shirts should be allowed, as money, like with many other sports, has ruined the character of players. It's all they are caring about these days...

Political correctness and a sport of rugged individualists shouldn't mix it seems, but I do see PC, driven by $$, creating stasis, and lack of charm. The Tour needs a John Daly type to shake things up.

Real woods, blades for irons, golf balls that had tons of spin on them...you had to have real talent back then compared to now.

I wonder technically why Seve was a bit wild off the tee his swing looks beautiful and on a great plane
@andrewrobinson83053 жыл бұрын
Seve was only a wild driver at the beginning & end of his career. In his prime period (c. ‘83 to ‘89) he was known as a very good driver, and one of the longest.

Got very steep and underturned in his later years leaving him short and prone to the hook. Back issues being the reason

It's crazy. Galleries with at least 2x more than a normal PGA event, 10x more than a LIV event in the 80s and here we are in 2023 and less people are watching but the players are getting payed 100s of millions just to play on a tour. The game is gone

Norman bogeyed 17, then they both birdied 18. Norman shot 67, Seve 69.
