Thanks for the video. The light diffuser for the new Flextail looks nice. I like the Decathlon a lot. I picked up the synthetic version instead for $40. At the time I was thinking I should have some backup in case all my down insulation gets soaked. I mostly use it as a normal jacket though :D. Great deal.

Great video Crow ! Im almost 100% convinced on the FlexTail pump after this... Camping gear is expensive and I certainly do not want my pads to get moldy from breath condensation, I think Im convinced on giving the pump a try. One reason I initially steered away from it was the noise. I wasn't sure if there was a noise etiquette in campsites to pay attention too with a pump, but I guess if you are mostly alone it should be fine. Thanks for sharing this gear list ! Cheers

I always grab a wide mouth vitamin water before hitting the trail. I peel off the sticker and drink it the first morning on trail. Then it becomes my pee bottle for the rest of the trip before getting recycled post trip. I do a lot of international hikes (Haute Route this year) and I try and do the same thing over there. Sometimes we're in huts or hostels so bathrooms are common. I'm definitely going to order the Flextail pump before we leave. I'll try and score a Forclaz jacket on sale when we arrive in Chamonix at the store there.

Great video! The Packtowl is a highly underrated and overlooked piece of backpacking gear. :) I put a small one with my kitchen kit, and each of my dogs carries their own larger one in their pack as well. Various sizes and all lightweight and very effective. I'm tempted to buy one of those Trekology pillows. I have neck issues and have yet to find a comfortable backpacking pillow. Currently using the Big Sky DreamSleeper.

Thanks my friend. I agree. I have used the pack towel for many years. I always keep it with me. I like the Trekology pillow. But, pillows are so personal...It varies from person to person. It is just the right height/stack for me and the outer fabric can be taken off to wash it. So, I really like it. Thanks for watching this one. Crow

@@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING Yeah, backpacking gear is very personal. I'm also currently in the midst of a change in sleeping pads. Been using a Thermarest XTherm for years. As I get older, the inflatable pads are just getting more and more uncomfortable, and it's mostly my hips that don't like them. So I'm currently trying to figure that out. I enjoy watching gear videos just to see what works for others and why.
@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING
@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING Жыл бұрын
I use two different sleeping pads right now, the Thermarest Neo-Air XLite and the Nemo Tensor. Though I have the 25” tensor…it isn’t as comfortable to me as the Xlite for some reason. Sleeping pad are tough…it is hard to find one that works. But, I have stuck with the Xlite, because it is so light. ✌️
@lovedogsontheloose
@lovedogsontheloose Жыл бұрын
@@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING Light is good! I've heard lots about the Tensor but I just can't see it offering that much more comfort than any other air pad. My best nights of sleep are on firm/hard surfaces, so I'm actually thinking about going back to a closed cell foam pad. Just not sure it's going to be warm enough for me.

My experience with the Decathalon 100 Puff Jacket was not great. Ordered from Walmart...when it came in I first noticed the down "puff" layer seemed kind of thin...then discovered the sizing was WAY OFF. I wear 2XL in everything...shirts, jackets, etc...which gives me a little slack as I like it. Ordered a 2XL in the Decathalon...upon arrival and trying it on, it did NOT even come close to fitting. Only wearing a T-shirt, it was probably 3 - 4 inches from even being able to close the zipper. Typical Chinese made and cannot even get the US sizing right. If you are a person who normally wears a Large (L) size, you better order a 2XL in order to fit right, and have a little room to wear over other layers. After seeing the sizing problem, I dug through the Walmart reviews (as I should have done a better job originally)...and found others also complaining about the sizing. One reviewer normally wore a Medium (M) size...had the same issue, and had to re-order an XL size to fit properly. This is the second KZbin video I've seen recommending that Decathalon jacket and no one makes people aware of the very small sizing run of this jacket. I returned mine for a full REFUND from Walmart. I ended up being fortunate at finding a discontinued Columbia "Three Forks" Puff Jacket, with their "3D Heat Reflective" lining...a $240 jacket discounted to $143 at REI..and in my size. Received that jacket...Wow...very obvious a much better quality jacket than the Decathalon 100...AND SIZED CORRECTLY.

That is a good point, that I didn’t address. I always get a large in most things. But, I really need an extra large. The large fits me, but, really…I wish I had gotten the XL. Someone else mentioned that in the comments. I should have addressed it. I really line the jacket otherwise. It is super light and fairly warm for the price. I would think that Columbia jacket would be nice. I have had a lot of Columbia stuff and it is great quality. Thanks so much for your comment. Crow✌️
