Thanks for a fun video! Two things I heard were not right, though: - Son Of Beat´s loop was not located after the first drop, but midway through the ride, after a block-brake. - The "Cutback" on Drachenfire was not removed. Only one of the corksrcews (the one after the block) was and replaced by a straight decline. Oh, and a few more coasters that took it too far come to mind: - X at Magic Mountain: The trains were too heavy and numerous modifications were made. - Maverick: Barrel roll needed to be replaced before the ride even opened. - Crystal Beach Cyclone; It was such an intense coaster that a nurse was hired to be on duty on the station. - The first Looping Coaster(s) at Coney Island and pretty much all such rides that were built until the 1970s - Alpenflug: The very first suspended coaster that didn´t have banked track. This was built before The Bat, which had the same problems that put too much stress on the cars. - The Bat (see above)

stellaVista Other candidates include Ring Racer (Nurburgring), Green Lantern (SFMM), Orphan Rocker (Scenic World), Twist Coaster Robin (Yomiuriland) and Vertigo (Walibi Belgium).
@stellaVista5 жыл бұрын
@@GbHandlebar Ring Racers problems were more or less political. The ride was stupid but working. Yes, they had a malfunction during construction, but these kinks were dealt with. In the end it was a combination of Nürburgrings financial problems (no one wanted the coaster/amusement park in the first place) and backwood politicians, who lobbied for a sale of the whole premise, that led to its ultimate failure. Green Lantern is a strange one. It´s a clone of Insane in Sweden and that works quite fine. Orphan Rocker and Twist Coaster Robin were shitty and unprofessional designs. I get it with Orphan Rocker as it was built by some private company who never built a coaster before. Twist Coaster, however was baffling....what a mess of a ride. Vertigo: Yes, they took it too far with the idea that multiple cars could run the course without block brakes. The cars were supposed to measure the distance between them and act accordingly. This apparantly turned out to be a problem. But hey, the original video includes Steel Vengeance, a coaster that took a ride that used to take it to far and turned it into an amazing piece of rideable art!

The reason Busch Gardens approached Arrow for Drachen Fire was because B&M was not confident enough to take on two projects at once. Busch Gardens originally wanted to add the same coaster to both Tampa and Williamsburg. B&M accepted the Tampa project but turned down the Williamsburg project.

Really enjoyed this, nice job Chris and Jordan! I don’t know how true this is and I doubt it’s the full truth but I remember hearing back in the early to mid 2000’s that Tussauds had some sort of agreement with B&M that Oblivion was to be the only Dive Coaster in Europe for a set number of years and that’s why we didn’t see many of them built for a fair while after, I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s complete bullsh*t though but could also explain why none of them were built after Oblivion for ages. That Tower of Terror coaster looks absolutely horrific, I’ve always thought that! Son of Beast looks like it was horrific too, that said the Beast looks pretty uninspiring and something I’m curious about getting on in June! Intimidator looks absolutely insane, it’s definitely on my to-do list. Is it bad I wish I’d been able to have a go on Steel Phantom? Arrow fanboyism at its best! Steel Vengeance should be an incredible coaster, well, it is I suppose but it’s absolutely ruined by the restraints for me. It should be my favourite coaster because the layout is incredible but the restraints ruined it for me. Drachen Fire was a sure sign that Arrow was falling behind, the documentary about Arrow Dynamics by ACE is really good and they talk about this coaster a lot, along with the competition from B&M. Arrow spent all of their resources on researching new ideas like their 4D coaster rather than pouring money into redesigning their track design and trains which in the long run would have probably saved them.

Great job! Thanks for the credits! There is one small correction though in regards to the Son of Beast accident. There are numerous sites that claim the train stopped suddenly when it hit the problematic area. This isn't actually the case as the train did make it back to the station on its own. The bad section of track provided a nasty pothole-type anomaly that injured riders as it went through it. Just imagine driving over a big pothole at nearly 80 mph. Ouch!
@cullenmcgoran72915 жыл бұрын
i never knew that as well.. all anyone ever shows is a train literally stuck on a hill section of the track making it look like it was an immediate abrupt stop. thats cool to know
@SeanFlaharty5 жыл бұрын
@@cullenmcgoran7291The train stuck on the lift was actually the train that was dispatched before the train with the injured riders came back to the station. Once the crew knew something was wrong they e-stopped the train on the lift. Had that train made it over the lift, it would have been very, very bad. Great action from the crew!

I live in Pittsburgh and grew up in what I think was the the most perfect spot for coasters at the time. I always felt like Kennywood is the most random amusement park to be placed anywhere. I loved riding the steel phantom when I was young and my family always loved to go to places like Cedar Point and King's Island (I actually rode Son of Beast as well when it had the loop, my brother and I loved it because there was ZERO line on a summer day and we just kept rolling... the rose bowl was honestly one of the most savage elements I've ever ridden on and we LOVED IT..). If you ever get the chance to come to Pittsburgh, @backseat blackout, I'd strongly recommend you visit Kennywood still because that second drop really doesn't end... especially now. And with Steel Curtain, it's definitely a spot to hit up before going to Cedar Point.

Great video, you two are quite an entertaining pair. Wow, those blue eyes are stunningly beautiful. By the way, Intimidator 305 does not feature a helix. Just because a track crosses over or under itself does not make it a helix. It has to be 360 degrees (a full circle or more) to be a helix. However, if it is between 200 to 359 degrees it can be considered a spiral or "Carousel Turn".

The coaster that took it too far to me is definitely the Vekoma SLC. Inverted coasters can be fun, as seen in almost every B&M inverter, but Vekoma did a lot wrong with their SLCs. Bad tracks (licensed by Arrow), bad track design where they almost completely wiped out the most fun part of roller coasters (air time) and really bad over-the-shoulder restraints, where the padding is almost useless.
