Not always a smaller bell though. There's quite a few on the market with 41/2 - 5" bells.

One big advantage is that they are shorter, which means they have a shorter lever arm when holding them and are therefore much easier for children to hold. This is why music teachers recommend the pocket trumpet for children up to the age of 10-11. Important: Do not confuse the pocket trumpet with the piccolo trumpet, which is used in the large orchestra for pieces by J. Sebastian Bach, for example, due to its high pitch (it is available in the pitches F, G, B/A and B/C).

Mind you. You needs to be a big cargo pant pocket:) mine won’t fit in my cargo pants but that is for another reason I won’t discuss on KZbin.:)
