WARNING - Stay out of Derelict Buildings. Read the warning at the start of the video. This is not a fun activity and not something that I would like any of my viewers to follow.
I'm warning you in advance, copying this could lead you into danger so please do not copy what you see in this video.
1980s Express Lifts, completely original. But in serious decay.
I'd rather have seen this when it was working!
See the "nine floors of terror" for a similar video.

Be careful on your own in such deserted places. I also enjoyed walking around on my own in spooky places. Until i heard a dog barking and next second running after me. Which learned me how vulnerable a person on his own is. It doesn’t need to be an animal or person, just any emergency and you’re on your own. Emergency services won’t be there for many minutes if you even get to call them. Good spooky video and nice old lift anyway :-)

The CounterWeight is heavier than the lift car. You'd have to load the lift car up to at least half weight capacity to see any downward movement, and that's assuming the brake is released and all the wheels and sheave haven't rusted up (which they have). Secondly, the lift has been in this position for about 15 years - considering the lift car weighs over a tonne, I doubt my weight will affect it. Therefore, yep, it's a calculated risk but it 'should' be ok. I did take a step in without commitment firstly though

It rather feels bizarre to see what was once the very best of best elevators/lifts now being reduced to an artifact of the past, slowly rotting away. Maybe one day this whole place will be torn down, who knows?

I wouldnt step either but lifts have a big safety margin. Also CW is 40% heavier than the cabin and Cw is already at G or LG

I don't exactly "enjoy" it. But old lifts are very rare to find in public these days, and lifts in these buildings are more likely to be ones that I am very interested in. With this in mind, get in, film, get out!

Just like in Pripyat a lot of the shaft doors are partially open or completely absent. This always seems to happen with automatic doors but not so much with hinged doors. Really weird. I don't know if I would stepped in that cab but on the otherhand as longs as the cables and the counterweight (and motor axle) are still sound it should be fine. The concrete structure of the staircase looks to be in good and safe condition. Old houses with rotten floorboards or joists can be really dodgy though.

I hear what you're saying. Here is a copy-paste from a comment I made above "My theory is as follows. Firstly, yes the CounterWeight is heavier than the lift car. Yes, most of the time I'm watching where I'm treading, especially in the motor room (trap doors made of wood for example). Thanks for your comment as always

@Nieciej

Better when car stay on top then on lowest floor because counterweight which is much heavier then car with one man inside. Every lift has a brake which is active every time when electric power is not connected - even if everything in control room disconnected (except the windlass and it's brake system). Car has an inetrtial brakes on it's rails and innertial speed control which stop car when it moves too fast. You have to cut every cables/lines connecting car with safety systems to put it down the shaft - otherwise it won't run.

the exit sign The word trespassing means literally illegal entering of a property. If it’s not illegal then it’s not trespassing. And even in the UK i don’t think you can just walk onto anyones land without permission, given that the land is fenced and has a door/gate.

I always wondered if Shorrock alarms were part of the Rediffusion group (being that they used the identical Adastral red star on their products!) it turns out - Initial bought the logo from Rediffusion when they wound the company down - so the logo was later seen on lots of products that were owned or co-owned by the Initial group. I've seen these alarms, "Worldwide" hand dryers with the logo on too!

YES! I had one of those securicor granley box lids for years - used to mix cement in it haha!! The strobe was only visible at night - they had bells inside them. The shorrock Blue boxes with "shorrock alarm" on them, they were bells.
