What an interesting menu. I will never attempt to cook this, as I have never heard of most ingredietens used in it before 🙂. But I love to learn about traditional dishes like that. Is there a reason why January 7th is special in Japan ? In Switzerland, on January 6th, its "Dreikönigstag" (3 Kings day). This is about the 3 Kings who according to the bible came from the Arabian Peninsula to witness the birth of Jesus Christ, and brought with them gifts. I dont know how from this "supposed history", it became a day where we eat a special bread made out of different sweet buns, stuffed with dried raisins. And in one of the buns, there is a small plastic figure, shaped like a king. If you get the bun with the king figure, you can put on a crown, and are the king or queen for the day 🙂.

I can't begin to imagine how the porridge taste, but I wonder if making a stock out of the herbs instead could yield a better taste.
