The two equations I see are : 2x+7>-3 2×+7-10 2× -5 but < 1 So, the values that fit this are -4,-3,-2,-1,& 0 -5 & 1 would not work because of the phrase in the problem "in between"

I conceive the problem slightly different than you, and therefore formulate a slightly different initial equation. I see the part in the middle as equal to or greater than -3, and equal to or less than 9. Including the end points of the range provides two additional solutions. By analogy, I conceive of three integers integers in the range between 1 and 3.

When you plug those numbers back in your result will be between -3 and 9. 2(-4)+7= -8+7= -1 which is between -3 and 9.

There is no definition of what the word "between" means in mathematics. I am a database programmer and in SQL, "between 3 and 5" means 3, 4 or 5, not just 4.

I remember learning that greater than and less than do not include, but greater than/equal to and less than/equal to do include. Perhaps SQL lacks the greater than/equal to and less than/equal to sign so the designers made a compromise.
