The two equations I see are : 2x+7>-3 2×+7-10 2× -5 but < 1 So, the values that fit this are -4,-3,-2,-1,& 0 -5 & 1 would not work because of the phrase in the problem "in between"

Haven't watched the video, but agree that the solution doesn't include the outer values of the set when "between" is in the question. My inequality looks like: -3

Problem specifies "between" which does not include. Therefore the equation is: -3

I conceive the problem slightly different than you, and therefore formulate a slightly different initial equation. I see the part in the middle as equal to or greater than -3, and equal to or less than 9. Including the end points of the range provides two additional solutions. By analogy, I conceive of three integers integers in the range between 1 and 3.

Find all k in the integers such that -3 < 2 * k + 7 < 9 is a sufficient way to phrase this. No wonder our kids are failing math when we use words like "seven more than twice an integer" and "between", which is needlessly ambiguous.

There is no definition of what the word "between" means in mathematics. I am a database programmer and in SQL, "between 3 and 5" means 3, 4 or 5, not just 4.

I remember learning that greater than and less than do not include, but greater than/equal to and less than/equal to do include. Perhaps SQL lacks the greater than/equal to and less than/equal to sign so the designers made a compromise.

When you plug those numbers back in your result will be between -3 and 9. 2(-4)+7= -8+7= -1 which is between -3 and 9.

Okay, 9 times an integer is betwwn -3 and 9. So that only works with the integer 0.
