I went to Madagascar and not far from the airport is an LDS stake center right next to the US embassy, both buildings bright, beautiful, shiny, with a large, tall fence all around both. I went to the Sikh golden temple, which is like the Salt Lake temple of sikhism. their doors are open for everyone, no matter what you wear or worthiness. You simply can't enter the temple even if you are a member, unless you are worthy enough to recieved a temple recommend to make covenant with the Lord. That's why, the temple outside wordings said. "Holiness to the Lord". It was his house, not owned by an individual, he has strict standards who he allows to enter in. Why the churches are beautiful even in third world countries? Do you think that a powerful being will settle for less, to conform with the world standards? The beautiful churches by The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, is a breath of fresh air to look at and if you are a member, it's a nice place to hang out. But we know the church across all its holdings (stocks, tithes, businesses, land holdings, BYU ETC) has over 200 billion in assets and generates at least 20billion a year in combined profits and tithes. Hi @BartonBagnes, I guess you deleted your message. I just wanted to say that you for sure don’t have to believe me at all, it’s just my experience with the bishop’s store house and not representative of the whole church, and for you to say that you’ve heard of people bragging (BTW who does that? Who brags about church assistance? Weird.) doesn’t mean that the church only has loving caring members, because it doesn’t. There’s good and there’s bad, so chill on the defensive apologetics. The Bishop, is responsible to the Lord, not the whole church.
@Me-ck4zh
@Me-ck4zh 5 ай бұрын
It is not totally at the discretion of the bishop. Financial help is not initially provided through tithing funds. It starts with fast offering funds (FOF). Sometimes the needs of ward members exceeds FOF. The bishop is allowed to spend more than what is available in FOF which will be covered by tithing fund with the approval of the stake president. If the bishop lacks money too often from FOF, he will be reminded of two things from his stake president: first, teach your members to be more generous in fast offerings and, second, spend money from the fund more wisely! As a former bishop, this has frustrated me much and often. I was seeking out for the poor and the needy in my ward regularly. I was not waiting for them to come and ask for help. I would get many warnings until I have decided to refuse any callings from the church leaders. The church will cover up from other wards' FOF where there is less poor and needy. Since members have no access to church's expenditure, members have no clue what is happening with any funds.

I remember when Dallin H. Oaks was called to be president of a Far East mission, years ago. He required all the dirt-poor, adult, male members to show up, to their Sunday meetings, in a white shirt 👕 (sorry, not green 💚, nor short sleeves). The cost of that one shirt was like a month's worth of regular wages. Oaks didn't care: to look like a "white-collar person" was more important to him than anything. (And, it exemplified Dallin's emphasis on two of his own intrinsic 'values': conformity and uniformity.) Now, if Elder Ronald E. Poelman had been supremely cognizant of those two 'values', he, himself, would not have made his huge blunder (cough, cough), in a talk he gave in October 1984... Hmm! 1984 Orwell would be pleased.

In the Old Testament tithing was not required by all and it was not money. The New Testament introduced the concept of grace giving. The 10% of your annual income idea is man made and not from the Lord. And any religious organization that requires or puts pressure on people to give money is clearly not Christian. You should give to your local church because you want to and not because you have to or are trying to get something out of it.

Let us also not forget the D&C 64:23 outlines that if you pay tithing, you will not be burned at the 2nd coming. OK, so the law of tithing is not only that tithe payers will store up great blessings for themselves in heaven but also wealth on earth that will lift them out of their poverty. But if tithing is the poor person's way out of poverty, should we conclude that any member who is still poor is disobedient to the law of tithing? How did the General Authorities of the LDS Church get so wealthy? Did they pay significantly more than a tenth of their increase to compensate for the effect of the "widow's mite" in the treasury that outweighs their contributions, paid out of their surplus? What about Mitt Romney and J. W. Marriott, Jr.? Is tithing the secret of their excessive wealth? One might deduce from this logic that wealth in the hands Latter-day Saint is a dependable indicator of righteousness, not merely evidence of the love of money, but then what could Jesus possibly have meant when he claimed it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven? @@bridgerweston7062 The church has an EXTENSIVE welfare system. The Bishop's Storehouse will provide groceries - some sourced from the church's extensive farms - to anyone who needs it. You just have to go to your bishop and be approved. You tell them what you need, they'll give it to you. Deseret Industries provides clothing and other material goods. All of which is funded by tithing and fast offerings. So essentially, you are paying the church in order to get welfare from the church. It's dumb. Did Jesus make people pay him before he healed them? "They also do it willingly." Sure, "willingly". After being cajoled and browbeaten by people who are supposedly "God's representatives". It's sickening. As for having faith, faith doesn't put food on their plate or a roof over their head. The church could easily say that God only requires what you are capable of giving, but no. Instead they take far more than what they need, from people who can't afford to give, and bury it away, like the parable of the talents. Just hiding it - not using it to extend their welfare programs to help even more people; not offering financial aid to those in need; not refunding the tithes paid by those who can't afford. Just hoarding it like a bunch of fucking dragons sitting on a pile of gold.

Mormon tithing is not a freewill offering. If you miss a tithing payment, you will be ridden very hard. People have been coerced into taking out a loan on their house in order to catch up on tithing payments. But is the bank which granted the loan which may go into default going to freeze the loan until one gets caught up? No, the bank is going to file a court order with the sheriff and out you and your family go into the streets.

I recommend mantra meditation or breath meditation, where you set aside say 15 minutes and focus on your mantra or breath and anytime your mind wanders you bring your mind back to the mantra or breath. This is far more helpful than going to the temple. I was miserable because of the hypocrisy of church members and had a real poor self esteem. I discovered mantra meditation after reading Meditation for Dummies and would choose a positive mantra and meditate on it 45 minutes 5 days a week for 18 months. This really boosted my self esteem and made me 10x happier than going to church and the temple. Can't recommend mantra meditation enough. Mormon church doesn't teach this kind of meditation. Stopped going to church as they deceived me about what true meditation is and they teach that feelings like fear, anger, jealousy and pride are evil. I am an INFP personality type. My dominant trait is feelings.

Did Christ teach that tithing was required for temple access and exaltation? Did Christ teach that tithing should be spent on shopping malls and hunting preserves for the wealthy? Did he teach that church leaders should hide the finances of the church from the members? Did Christ teach that the poor should pay tithing rather than feed their families? @@TheMormonInformant Thanks for sharing, I definitely respect your opinion. The first thing I thought of after reading your comment was why then do we all pay taxes? The leaders of our country are so far from being stand up ethic citizens (both red and blue). Yet we pay taxes into the system who can print as much money as they want and give it away to other countries/individuals for unethical reasons. Do I pay taxes, absolutely... am I happy doing it... absolutely not. but I do it because it's the law. Personally I am happy to pay my tithing because I have a testimony of it regardless how much money is in the account, I have a testimony of the blessings Ill receive as well as because its one of Fathers laws. Now I am not here to convince you you're wrong or you convince me I am wrong. I genuinely like having conversations with people and why they believe the things they believe. @@nathanturner5291 _"what's your reaction going to be if/when these same Saints actually living the Law of Consecration"_ It will never happen, and I'd be willing to bet on it if you were allowed to gamble. _"Do you think you can do more alone, on your own, without the Lord, or do you think you would be better off with the blessings of salvation"_ I would think that the existence of this channel would answer that for you. I don't believe in an afterlife or a God. I do just as much alone as when I thought there was a God, so that kind of confirms my position. _"how about just having the Windows of Heaven open and a blessing literally poured out that you can't receive"_ Never saw any evidence of that in 25 years. Seems made up. _"I guess it boils down to belief."_ Yep. You do, and I don't, for all the reasons I listed in this video and more.

A lot of truth mixed with slightly less bias. But still enough bias to change the doctrine on tithing Joseph f smith taught. The church does a pretty good job of releasing information on where they’re spending money and about financial audits that they do. I’m not aware that any laws have changed but I don’t think they have to public-ally release any financial disclosures to the public.

"The church does a pretty good job of releasing information on where they’re spending money and about financial audits that they do." They make a statement once a year that they have audited themselves. There is no discussion of where they are spending the money besides the occasional advertisement of their humanitarian donations.
