Thanks Tom, love your review! Seal and EV9 in my garage one day. A man can dream :) What i like with the AWD is that it is capable of turning off the front motor when cruising at freeway speeds, so there's no need to worry that I'm wasting range by going the AWD variant.

Another great review Tom. When you review the Air next week, could you please attempt to charge at a Tesla supercharger open to all makes? My GT-Line will start charging, ramp to 60kw and then fail after about 15 seconds. I spoke to another owner who has the same issue. Charges fine at non Tesla sites. Hoping you may be able to try it out to bring to the attention of Kia, assuming the Air has a similar problem even though the battery is different.

If you hate the driver assistance stuff (and it sounds like you do), you can map that star button on the wheel to take you to that screen and quickly toggle whatever off before you drive. I keep it all on because I don't mind all the beeps and bongs anymore. Press and hold the button to remap I believe.

Tom maybe the feature is only in the upper GT Line spec, but I saw the EV9 has a finger print sensor, which is the memory function for the seats & mirrors to your individual setting.

Ah yes I did see that - you’re right it’s a finger print sensor for security access to one’s profile … I wonder what can be customised under the Kia Connect settings 🤔

I sat in one in the dealer while having oil change for my sportage. The EV9 has excessive of hard plastics inside. Outdated infotainment with no voice controls which the Chinese EVs come with standard. Sticker price is at 61-63kUSD didn't check what the trim level was.

The version I want 1. An 85kWh CATL Shenxing LFP pack (RWD or AWD choice) 2. 3 Phase 22kW AC charging 3. Leave the existing charge port there but make it a Type 2 AC only for curb-side convenience. DC/AC charge-port placed in TESLA friendly LEFT REAR. 4. Forget the third row of seat more cargo space with a deeper well matters more.

Suggest looking at the stats from EV Database: ev-database.org/car/1835/Kia-EV9-998-kWh-AWD - They suggest efficiency can be anywhere between 154-305Wh/km depending on whether it is driven on urban/highway conditions and in varying weather conditions between mild and cold weather. How much does rain affect range? The amount of standing water can greatly increase rolling resistance. So of course it depends on how heavy the rain is, how much water is on the road and how fast you are driving. I’ve seen one source state that rain can affect range on average by up to 10%

Nice detailed review again Tom! Had the chance to check out the best selling large EV SUV in China while on holiday last year; the Li Auto L9... oh boy that car will decimate the competition if it's sold here. The level of luxury in that car is comparable to a S class merc at $100k AUD.

Some of the driver assistance features in modern cars (ANCAP requirements) are clearly counterproductive. All that beeping is distracting and often serves no purpose as it's not always clear what has triggered the beeping. The lane keeping assistance is potentially dangerous and of no real use. If you are not paying enough attention, the oversensitive jerking can easily cause you to lose control of the car. Ironically, you need to be very alert and have fast reactions - and therefore have no need for these features - in order to save the car from causing an accident. There are people who have been driving very safely all their lives, but are now having their cars trying to take control away from them unnecessarily and causing far more problems than they solve. Either the "geniuses" at ANCAP haven't thought this stuff through properly or manufacturers can't figure out how to actually make these "safety" requirements, well, safe.
