EVs are all the rage, and now there’s one from Kia that caters for large families as a premium seven-seat SUV 👉 Full Review: www.carsales.com.au/editorial...
The 2024 Kia EV9 Air could be the EV capable of luring families out of their large combustion-engine vehicles once and for all.
With room for seven and all their gear, too, the big and bold Kia EV9 has the essential family-friendly boxes ticked, but it comes with an equally sizeable price tag.
Even the entry-level Air is well over $100,000 on-road, so is the premium price tag a deal-breaker, or has Kia finally earned its place as a worthy rival to the prestige pack?

In my view EVs work best in an urban environment particularly in our large capital cities and other bigger urban centres. This is because they will lead over time to cleaner air. Very few people would buy the base model so buyers are looking at well over 6 figures to drive the mid-range model off the lot. It's a 7-seater SUV/People Mover cross over (whatever that is), I suggest that families that need a 7-seater aren't those who have the money to purchase this vehicle. As for its off road and towing capabilities I suspect the range would be significantly reduced once the boat or caravan was attached meaning it is simply not a viable alterantive to a Toyota Landcruiser diesel. I've no doubt it is well made, has a luxury look and feel to it but it makes no sense for either market it is aimed at that is despite the sales figure quoted in response to another comment. It seems to me that the Chinese makers have shown the way with cars in the $40K-$50K range that is what people can afford and are likely to buy. At those prices EVs will be successful in urban areas. At 2.3tonne and over 5 metres in length it is a big car and I wonder given that the average household is 2.59 people (let's call it 3) who needs a 7-seater.

The 2025 Kia Carnival MPV Hybrid is a better value. A good choice that gets great gas mileage. Perhaps EV models will be a great choice in ten years.

Who in their right mind is going to spend 6 figures on a car if it’s not a Mercedes, BMW, Audi or any luxury grade vehicle??

They've been selling alright: 208 sales in Australia in 2023 and thus far in 2024 another 156. Clearly there's a desire from customers.

This would have been a great comment in 2001. You aren’t getting a luxury European car for that money. You might buy the badge but you won’t be getting a luxury car.

wtf. Why on earth would anybody need that range. Almost every ev on sale today already well and truly exceeds 99% of peoples range needs.

It would be nice to be able to do a full day's driving like I would in a conventional or hybrid vehicle ~ 1000-1500km. But anymore than that isn't needed. You charge your phone everyday, a car should be no different.
