The snarky back-and-forth between the two leads is a blast. A delightful plot, unexpected twist, and perfect pacing makes this well worth the view.

Snappy dialogue in the early Hitchcock vein (The Lady Vanishes, Young & Innocent) and fine portrayals by the leads make this pre-war gem a real pleasure. I'd never seen this film before --- thank you very much for making it available!

Just started watching this and I like it already. I'm sure it will be good to the end. I judge 1930s comedy movies by My Man Godfrey, and this is right up there with it. The humour is not over done. Everything runs smoothly. Acting great and the lines are too. Thank you for posting it.

@Larry Whited Please re-read my comment. It states "Just started WATCHING this..." I didn't say how long I had been "WATCHING" the movie, but that I had been "WATCHING" the movie. So obviously I had WATCHED (part of) the movie and then gave my comment. As a matter of fact, the movie was "good to the end." Have a nice day!

One of the best films I have seen in quite some time. Extremely witty with laugh out loud moments, good plot twists, budding romance. And trains! Not what I expected from the title and year of production.

A very high quality drama with much entertainment value. Constance Cummings and Edmund Lowe do well leading an excellent cast. The film is worthwhile to view with good audio and visual clarity for an 8 decade old movie.

My favorite kind of movie - a whodunit with an interesting plot, good acting, clever one-liners. Often the quick dialogue had moved ahead just as I was catching the double entendre of the last line. Thank you for sharing.

For the kids out there, they're at the movie to get news because average people didn't have tvs and even then didn't necessarily have the latest news. I love this movie, the costumes in the beginning...the fact they shine and sparkle in black and white is a testament to the designers. Fast paced, not corny well written and acted in my opinion. Thanks for posting 🎉

This was wonderfully entertaining. Edmund Lowe was born in San Jose, Ca 03/03/1890. The Winchester House in San Jose, started being built in 1884. Mr. Lowe started out in vaudeville and then silent movies. He made some wonderful movies including "Dinner at Eight" with an all star cast. Happy Viewing from Las Vegas, NV September 27, 2018

Who needs commercial TV? No more of that for me! And w/my AdBlocker Plus, I don't have to deal with any of the ads that I used to have to deal w/before watching a video on YT!! Yes - if you don't have AD BLOCKER PLUS-get it ASAP!! It's free & easy to download! No more annoying ads anywhere you go on the internet!!!

+Lillian Morgan Drop you pay television right away. I did 4 years ago and never thought twice about it. I remember when cable first came out and there were no advertisements. That was one of the selling points. That didn't last to long though. I don't suppose streaming with out paying will last for ever either so enjoy it while it lasts.

SPOILER ALERT: The film never mentions where the weapons are sent from France. If I had to guess, they were smuggled into Spain either to help the Spanish fight Franco and his fascist army, or to help Franco. The Spanish Civil War had started in July, 1936. It ended in 1939 when Franco and his fascist followers took control. This film was made in 1936, right around the start of the Spanish Civil War. Can any historians shed some light on this? On my part it is only a guess... It is possible that the guns were meant to be delivered to general Franco, which the French officer considered much too immoral, and tried to stop them, while keeping the money at the same time. He was a terrible criminal because in order to assassinate the group of bandits, he derailed three trains with no consideration about all the innocent people who died in these accidents. The film is certainly sinister. Its film's plot and the types of criminals depicted reminded me of of C. K. Chesterton's novels, and his arch criminals, Aristide Valentin in particular. Valentin was the head of the Paris Police before Father Brown unmasked him as a criminal.
