What a movie! Absolutely stunning! Dialogues are second to none, acting is brilliant, the pair Wayne-Dietrich are just natural, filming is perfect etc etc If some directors are in need of inspiration they just need to copy paste this one, snd good actors we do have some don't say we don't, it's just they don't have the good directors...

Эта Дитрих как эхо войны, дыхание смерти во все что она поет и делает. Все настолько прикрыто вуалью. В ней жизни. Это мумия с дорогими украшениями.

Was it ny imagination or did some on screen sparks fly between Wayne and Dietrich. She was just as perilous in real life as on film.
@GeorgeFrei-g4lАй бұрын
It was not your imagination! Marlene Dietrich was responsible for introducing Marion Michael Morrison soon to be known as John Wayne to director John Ford so that he starred first in The Big Trail(1929) and then Stagecoach(1936?). He became a HUGE star and also her lover for a period of time. She was an incredibly brave and intelligent person who survived all that life and love put her through until her death in the 1990s.

After being labelled box office poison in 1938 Marlene's run as a exotic european film goddess appeared to be over, but in 1939's Destry Rides Again she re-invented herself completely, and as Bijou in Seven Sinners again confirmed her new bawdy image

Aaaand once again... wealth and privilege carry the day! WE love Bijou, but the elitists were damned if they'd allow her to crash their party. Come to think of it, they were damned, anyway. Thank you for posting this, and reminding us of the priggish mores of the 1940s.

She was gorgeous when she was young. One has to be young to get away with playful romantic comedy roles, otherwise one just looks silly. But it seems she was too old for her role in this film. I like her in "Judgement at Nurenberg," where she appeared as a mature, dignified and elegant widow opposite Spencer Tracy.
