Some drone footage of the seven sisters ponds at Thornton Hough in Wirral aka the stork ponds. I caught my first carp from these ponds back in 1989, if you've an interest in Wirral fishing the ponds are under the control of port sunlight angling club these days. PSAC have long been the best fishing club in Wirral and they provide quality coarse fishing in the Wirral and Cheshire West area. You can join port sunlight angling club through their website and you can also see the other waters they control.
Port sunlight angling club also has affiliations to Dee Anglers Association, Lymm Angling Club and Huyton & District Angling Association so there is miles and miles of fishing on the River Dee and the Shropshire Union Canal on the ticket too.

yeah they were andy, back in the day it was a bite a chuck for roach and crucians using punched bread on the pole, i kept getting snapped off by the small population of carp that lived in there and that's what started me carp fishing👍🎣😎

yeah they look good dan, certainly in better shape than when i fished there all those years ago. i dropped my ticket for the club a long time ago so i've not set foot on the place for nearly 3 decades, i only really filmed this for drone flying/filming practice, it just happens to be quite local but not near anywhere built up and you never know, it might give the local fishing clubs waiting list a bit of a boost👍

yeah i'm made up with the quality of the footage from the mavic mini tom, it's not even on it's best quality setting, i set it to the same as my video cameras i use for filming (hd/60fps) but it does 2.7k as well👍

apologies for the late reply mate, your comment got caught in youtube's spam filtering system for some unknown reason?, it's a decent club but they don't have anything approaching the quality of brooms cross👍

yeah matt, i was desperate to get some flight time so i just took it to a local pond i used to fish many years ago, it's in the middle of a big field so nobody around and i could fly to my hearts content, i went through a few batteries and had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon👍🎣😁😎

cheers phil, that was my first time using it, i must admit it does take great footage although it doesn't get much use at the moment, a lot of fisheries seem to be banning them, which is a shame as they are superb for fish spotting👍

Mark Carp I thought of getting one my self but was put off by the price and the Moore I looked into it I found they can sometimes fly off on their own

@@PhilipBrown1967 yes they can phil, that happened to me with the first one i bought last year, first time i used it, it flew off never to be seen again with me powerless to stop it!. a very expensive mistake on my part but i tried again once i'd saved some more money, i've learned my lesson (operator error and my fault) and i've had no problems with the new one👍

I used to fish these ponds in the late 60's/early 70's. I only caught rudd and crucians back then.
@MarkCarp
@MarkCarp 3 жыл бұрын
rudd and crucians were the mainstay in the late 80's too dave but the former club stork ac had out a few carp in, not many, just a handful, it's where my own carp fishing started. according to the psac website there are even barbel in there today?.

@@MarkCarp Wirral was a carp desert in the 60/70's. In the early 70's I caught a few carp at Birkenhead Park Lower Lake and the Captains Pit, Wallasey. There was also a deep pond off Station Road, Thurstaston that contained wild carp but it was filled in. It was rumoured that Meols Pit contained carp at that time but it was unavailable to the public.
@MarkCarp
@MarkCarp 3 жыл бұрын
@@davee196 it's still a carp dessert now compared to the rest of the country dave. I knew there was carp in birkenhead park back then, i fished it as a kid and i can remember trying to catch one of those mythical giants by bunching up all the shot under my waggler and burying my hook in a piece of floating bread crust, needless to say they didn't have any of it😂 this was in the late 70's.

@@MarkCarp I read a Dick Walker article in a magazine about using sweetcorn as bait. After much searching me and a mate found an old fashioned grocers in Heswall which sold tins of it. We legered sweetcorn over to an island using 6lb line. We lost a few before catching a few and some tench. Same at the Captains Pit. I've got photos of those catches somewhere.

@@davee196 revolutionary times dave, i was too young to know who dick walker was back then but i remember sweetcorn, it was very popular and in constant use as i was growing up👍 i caught my pb tench at the time from birkenhead park on sweetcorn👍

Nice video.......mark just wondered if I could ask a maybe dumb question ......is a carp fly cast out with a bubble float a silly idea? Catching off the top with bread is great.but fancy making a few foam flies to sit on surface. Any ideas appreciated
@MarkCarp
@MarkCarp 4 жыл бұрын
yeah it sounds like a bad idea harry, a bubble float works well but you don't fly cast it, you just use a fixed spool reel, a conventional fly setup would be better for carp, no float, just your fly line and leader with your foam fly on👍🎣

Sorry mate I didn't explain very well..yes fixed spool reel and float rod being used .....cant proper fly fish where I go....I just cant find much info on these zig bugs I see for sale.....how do we get them out on the water? Got a be too light for freelining

it's in the middle of a farmers field mate so perhaps not, there is a public footpath down the side of the field though and as far as i know it leads through the leverhulme/thornton manor estate so yes, the area itself is good for walkers👍
