Let's Try a 40 Meter Delta Loop Ham Radio Antenna on a POTA Activation! This antenna is a little harder to set up than an EFHW so are there any benefits to using it? Let's try it out and see what happens.

At least you know the antenna does work. It does seem a pain to put up and take down. Have you thought of trying both antennas on an activation, perhaps with an AB switch? The results would be interesting. 73

LOL!!! Used to use the same antena in the, Marines. Could get over 20 miles in some locations. And with variations you could get out to 40miles distance. Works even better at night with grounding in water.

Maybe you should have more of an equilateral triangle, so instead of the long leg parallel to the ground, it would angle up to a point on the far pole.

I agree, that would be better but what I'm going for here was to have the antenna setup just like an efhw so it only needs the one support mast and a connection at the feed point

@@SevenFortyOne I see. I remembered the 4 foot mast from the first video and in this one you had it but decided it would be easier to tie it off at the car. Good point. Maybe turn the car 90 degrees to the left and tie off the feed point at the roof rack. That would raise that bottom wire up a little more.

@@SevenFortyOneJust make an equilateral triangle with your pole right in the center. One corner is attached to the ground with a stake and rope and the other corner to your car. The shape of your delta loop will be better with less risk of cancellation. The ground wire could therefore be higher and it will be easier to maintain the stiff wires now being in its center.

Could you just prop a stick under the lower wire (near the middle) so it is up off of the ground?

Yes.. I'm planning to grab some plastic stakes but I don't think it will really make much of a difference

For helping the bottom leg be higher I suggest using plastic electric fence posts. They are like 3 ft tall and go in the ground easily. A taller mast like the 12m spiderbeam would help too. You could also tie the wire off higher up the mast at the bottom and move mast further away. As another comment said using an equilateral triangle would fix it too with electric fence posts holding the bottom corners up.
