It is! Like I said, I think sometimes popular books get over-hyped...but I don't think that one is over-hyped--I love that each spread walks it's way through a natural process or "mini-story" about animals or plants.

Tedious AKA “Twaddle” Haha I have some of those but have been purging a lot out!
@SevenInAll

I think some would categorize what I call "silly" lighthearted books under twaddle, too...but so me, genuinely enjoyable silly books are worth holding onto. But when they're just plain tedious to read and there's nothing to endear them to your heart...yep, probably time to stop giving them room on the bookshelf.

Please tell me if it’s annoying to have comments on older videos…but I couldn’t resist one on books you love! My daughter and I watched this a few weeks ago, and I consoled myself for not being able to buy them all by ordering a few from the library. My preschooler and I have been enjoying the BB science book; We Are in a Book has provided many laughs and re-reads, and Tiger Tiger Burning Bright is gorgeous as well as fun! We’ve also enjoyed Slow Down in the past, and I’ve read lots of LMM’s books but not the Emily ones; I’ll have to check them out. Thank you! Not many things make me happier than good book recommendations! 📚

Nope, not annoying in the slightest. Berenstain Bears Science is such an awesome one for preschool science! And the Emily series has been one I've loved for probably nearly 20 years now...I re-read every handful of years to enjoy them all over again.

5:51 we love the elephant and piggie series around here. I feel like they greatly contributed to my sons reading fluency and expression, and also his emotional intelligence. He’s been more able to recognize and respond to someone’s body language and expressions in real life since becoming so familiar with elephant and piggies’ interactions.

We really love that series--and yes, they deal with real-life problems and emotions. They're quick reads and fun to dramatize with voices.

Awesome Tips!!! I love books that help explain everyday life and experiences!!! I feel like it’s helps my youngest to understand life!!! We did a lot of those books when my older kids where younger!!! My husband gets the kids devotionals and Bibles as I feel like he’s better at choosing them!!! Little bear is awesome and me, my husband and now my kids have grown up on it!!!

I get it. I tend to think of books as one of the best things to splurge on when you have the opportunity...so many of our picture books I have read aloud literally hundreds of times...so many have been passed around from one family member to another...yep, I like books. ;)

When you're limited...my suggestions would be to look for the books that will truly be the most-used assets to your homeschool--based on the ages of your kids right now and the priority subjects. Good quality encyclopedias with pictures are often a good choice. Taking the time to really research a book, try to get a look inside and get a feel for whether the content is really something you'll want to read again and again can help (I have sometimes made bad choices--bought a book that I thought would be a really good resource and then it turned out that I didn't like it and barely used it. That's a sad mistake to make when you have to order books in from overseas!) Notice authors that you really, really love--and then see if those authors have more books on different topics that you'll be studying. I tend to purposely buy mainly books that are directly connected to our main subject focuses for the next year...because I know I will use them more than I would "random" books. I think I may do a future video on some of my favorite authors for homeschool books. So--look at your subjects that you'll be studying, then look at the "gaps" in the books you have available already, and work toward making a list that would help fill in those "gaps". For example, we had absolutely zero music-related books at home, but I wanted to start learning about instruments and composers with the boys. I made sure to buy a book that gives an overview of top composers and orchestra instruments (it was recommended by our curriculum...I don't buy every book recommended by curriculum, but because I knew this was a gap in the resources we had, I made sure to at least buy this book for a helpful tool in teaching).

I have been eyeballing those science books for probably two years now, I think I may have to add those for my preschooler next year :) Also, I have never seen those books by L.M. Montgomery I love her Anne series.

If you liked Anne, you will also be likely to enjoy the Emily series. The science books are definitely worth a purchase!
