I am so glad I watched this video! It gave me a new way to use something I have made for decades as my purse "to-do" list. I was a teacher for 34 years and used to have students make these books to use in fun projects, like moon phases, cell division, etc. Educators call these "Smoosh books" or "Smash books". If you have trouble making them, there are many tutorials on folding and cutting, including printouts on the process. They make great little sketch journals for kids.

For those who don’t know, “zine” is short for magazine, and they were very big back in the 1990’s-early 2000’s, among counter-cultural Creatives. The word is pronounced Zeen, one syllable. A zine that I used to read was made by a Dishwasher, who wrote about how he stole dishes, etc., from each restaurant owner he worked for, because his wages were too low… (Like every other non-salaried American worker). Zines were the DIY Passion Projects of mostly young Creators, many of whom were living on low-paying jobs ; many of their zines consisting of black and white xerox copies, folded and stapled together. The esthetic was simplicity itself, but those with more money to spend-especially as computer Graphic Design programs advanced-could be much more sophisticated and commercial-looking.
