All Saints, Brixworth is a 7th Century Anglo Saxon marvel. It may also possibly be the 1st place where an English 'Parliament' met (In the region of the King of Mercia). I only got to discover this beauty because my son @BinandChill is crazy about Bin Lorries and needed to be in the Northampton area! Because of this I was in the locality of this church. I really enjoyed this visit - hopefully you too can enjoy it from the comfort of your sofa. ‪@HimInChurch‬

No mention of the Crypt beneath the Alter. When I lived in Brixworth, they were quite proud to have it. Back then, in the 60s, the Church did not look so plastic as it does now. I certainly prefer it the way it was, to the way it is now.

Hi Mervyn. I'm no expert on these churches, just film and relate what I see, in the limited time I have there. How lucky are you to have lived there. Though many churches have crypts, they are often not accessible to visitors - I certainly wasn't aware of the crypt there, or I'd have mentioned it. Sorry to hear you found the church 'plastic' - each to their own - I was very impressed with the church, myself. Cheers

Hello, this video on your Church just popped up on my screen this evening. Did you know that the little statue of Our Lady with Christ child up high in the corner of your Church is very similar to the statue of Our Lady of Walsingham in Norfolk. She has a Saxon Crown. The one in Walsingham is in the Slipper Chapel there down the road from Walsingham. ❤😊. The statue on the floor is of a Crusader from early Middle Ages. He would have gone to fight 2 Crusades to save Christian Jerusalem of those times as it looked that he was crossed at the knees and the ankles. This was the sign he had been in the Crusades. The box set in the wall with a Chalice on it is not a loo but was a Tabernacle where Communion Hosts were stored after Mass for the Priest to take to the sick. Also the Baptismal font was always near the entrance door for the Catechumens at the back of the Church who were waiting to be Baptised at Easter. After Baptism they were able to join the rest of the Congregation for Holy Mass. 😊. Thank you for showing us this Church very interesting and special with its early beginnings. We were a Catholic Christian country then. 🙏🙏😇

Hello Wendy. Thank you ever so much for your fantastically detailed information - I didn’t know it and it’s really interesting. It’s great that people like yourself have this knowledge as it enhances the experience for other watchers. Thanks also for the ‘loo’ correction! 🤗 - it’s part of my (sometimes misplaced) attempts at humour! I haven’t been to Walsingham yet, but I will bear your information in mind when I do. Thanks again, for taking the time to comment. Best wishes, Chris 🤗

Thanks Chris, I will watch out for more Churches you visit. I studied Anglo-Saxon history many, many years ago when I was at College in London. We visited churches at Jarrow, Monkwearmouth and York, we had a great teacher. 😊🌸

It certainly shows! I myself have a recent Passion in exploring these places, but don't really possess much knowledge. I know there are often history leaflets in these places but I don't get an opportunity to absorb them at that moment, because I'm usually with my son and his patience is understandably tested after 2 hours filming and taking photos! The bulk of time is editing what I have filmed/ improving audio, I necessarily limit the information I include, in an attempt at conciseness. It's all a bit of a juggling act! I look forward to your helpful insights in other videos. Have a great day 🤗

There’s a similar age church less than 10 miles away in a village called Earls Barton. Also worth looking at.

Wow Chris, you are really working through these. I can't keep up. You are definitely relaxing into it. You really seem to enjoy looking round and sharing these churches. Thank you. Thought you might like to know that we have started installing the pipe organ at St John's with St Mary's. The Thursday sitters are really excited. It should be up and running by summer next year. I can't wait.

Hi Murtle (is it ok to address you like that?) - how's the crochet going...;0)? Funny enough, I was talking (to the organist in St Thomas, Goring) about St John's, Devizes, yesterday and am hopeful about doing the youtube video of your church soon! (Almost started it today but decided on another one, instead). Great news about the pipe organ and those gigantic pipes! I look forward to the revisit. Thanks for keeping me informed 🤗 Best wishes for now.

Very impressive church and nice video. My only criticism is that it would be nice to have more in the way of verbal commentary to accompany the filming. I appreciate that you might not be very knowledgeable on the subject, but even just expressing your own natural thoughts and reactions to what you're viewing (as opposed to remaining quiet) would make the video more interesting for viewers, in my opinion.

Hi Mike. Thank you for taking the time to write this. I know what you mean and your criticism is valid. I am still attempting to settle into a 'style.' Often I am with my son on these explorations and I have to limit the time I am actually onsite, as it is wearing on his patience. Also, I might encounter other people in the church and am feeling a bit bashful - at other times, I am hit with the silence and find it difficult to utter a word! The last 4 years have been difficult for me, mentally, and I have sometimes needed to immerse myself in the quietude to assist the healing of my soul. I sometimes find videoing and photographing is all I've got, on the day and the spontaneous audio I record is sometimes too poor a quality. I have sometimes added narration at home, as I can then be sure of the audio quality - it may then have more pertinent information but I sometimes feel it lacks spontaneity. All these remarks, might indicate, I have been giving this considerable thought but, as yet, have not worked out a satisfactory solution. I considered just visiting these places on my own, so I had more leisure to remedy this, but I home educate my son and (as I mention on this particular video) it's his Bin Lorry passion that often gets me to discover these places! Also, some people have commented that they like the silent passages, as it is almost as if they themselves are within the church medatively viewing the artefacts - my speaking knocks them out of this quiet state. Again, I appreciate your feedback - the next two videos are already scheduled, so I will attempt to fill some of the gaps in future ones. Thanks again 🤗

@@HimInChurch Thanks for your response - and all very valid points you make. I'll keep an eye out for your next videos. This was the first one I've watched - it appeared as a random KZbin recommendation, presumably as I'm interested in the medieval churches of Norfolk, where I live.

Hi Mike. Nice to know KZbin is recommending me! Some of the videos have got more narration than others - I'm always open to any feedback - so please feel welcome to come back on anything I've done well or badly - I'd love them to be a more satisfying experience for the viewer. I've gradually been adding in churches from Simon Jenkins 1000 best churches book, and recently visited Essex - my son hasn't directed me to Norfolk yet, but I hope to get there one day (or maybe even a week!). If you haven't already, you might want to subscribe so you can get notified when my videos go online. Currently it's every Saturday at noon. Best wishes 🤗
