The reveal of Ms. Casey at the end makes Ms. Selvig's question of "Does Mark ever think he sees (his dead wife)?" hit WAY harder.

I might have glanced at my phone or something during the reveal on my first watchthrough, so I actually didn't get the reveal until later, which was also pretty nuts.

Same with her swiping that candle. Love when big reveals make you wanna go back and watch stuff again

It also puts an eerier spin on every interaction that Mark and Ms. Casey have had up to that point. Ms. Casey always seems like a weird robot, but with what's implied about her, you realize she's more like a human that broke.

@@Anubisblack Yep, it was made so that we'd think she did it to test Mark. But it was instead to test Gemma/Ms. Casey.

This entire season was a mind-blowing experience-- it starts sloooow and then just keeps amping up until the final few minutes of that final episode where I was left literally screaming. That's good TV. 🤣

My theory (after many others I’ve gone through) about Gemma is like the one you mentioned - the accident did happen but she was in a coma and Mark had to pull the plug, and they are testing her inside to see if it’s possibly to use severance to heal someone from a brain injury. It would make some sense with how Cobel/Selvig has that shrine and wears a hospital bracelet for “Charlotte Cobel” and she keeps testing Gemma and Mark together and watches every interaction because it seems like she’s hopeful they will remember each other. I think Cobel lost someone she loves and is hoping to bring them back and wants to prove reintegration is possible for that very reason (possibly, ha I’m sure I’m wrong).

The pregnant rich lady is the wife of that pro severance senator, and she herself said that she needs help to get thru the pregnancy. Imagine severing your delivery because it's too painful to endure, the inny would only live to physically deliver the child. Her entire existence would be very short, very painful and also very dangerous. She might see the child born, but then she is out of the picture till the next time. She would never know if that child lived or died or how is it doing or anything. So if you can sever that experience, what else could you sever from yourself? What if you hate your in-laws and you must see them on a regular basis, say at holidays or on the weekends, could you sever that?
@christopherlundgren17008 күн бұрын
Presumably your inny would be consistent for the rest of your life. If you used it to escape any unpleasant condition, you would essentially be dooming your inny to a life of perpetual confusion and suffering. You have a baby. Suddenly you've been hit by a car and your arm's broken. Now you're in a place you've never seen and you're sick with the flu. And on and on.

@christopherlundgren1700 the thing is, HOW does severance work? It does not have to be an everyday thing. It could be used by the outie like an on/off switch. Outie Helly said her innie is NOT a person and that she, outie Helly, is and makes the decisions. So severing the delivery of the infant might appeal to that rich pregnant lady, however Mary brings up a good point too, about having no connection to the newborn because the mother was so heavily sedated she does not remember. Oh I cant wait for season 2, maybe some of these many questions I have may be answered

She would not need to know if the child lived or died, because she would not exist again. Perhaps the severance process can split you more than once?

Go back and listen to Ms. Casey’s wellness sessions. Then listen to Mark describe Gemma. Appreciate them both equally.

I'm so conflicted. Our severed characters did this to themselves (except for the "dead" wife issue). The outties, upon agreeing to be severed, knew that anything, literally ANYTHING, could be happening to their innies, and were okay with it. Otherwise they would not have agreed to it.
@polterkat3 күн бұрын
I believe the implication is that the rich lady severenced herself for the length of her pregnancy. So she could just... HAVE A BABY and it would be 9 months later.. never have to deal with all the body-changes and inconveniences. That's why when we first see her she's got one name picked out, then when we see her again she's slightly meaner and has a different name. The first version was her 'innie'.. as in "in the pregnancy period" when she could imagine what that baby might be named some day. Then once it's born the outtie wakes up and gives it whatever ACTUAL name it was always gonna have 😕 Basically your 'innie' is your surrogate mother who's entire existence is being pregnant

You should know more about this, but I don't think you can sedate a woman giving birth. That would seriously harm the baby because the sedative drugs would go via the umbilical cord. You can do local anesthetic via the spine, but I don't think there is a save way to sedate the mothers brain without harming the baby.
@christopherlundgren17008 күн бұрын
I was thinking this too when she brought it up, but I also wasn't sure. It looks like if there's an emergency, they'll have no qualms about doing general anesthesia, like if they're doing a cesarian. So I imagine they try to avoid that under most circumstances, but it's not like the baby is doomed or anything if they have to put the mother under. If the alternative is that somebody might not make it, then the risk must be pretty low by comparison.
