With Milkshake I think he was slightly offended, baffled, and disappointed, but also felt like he had to appear grateful. What’s really delicious though is that he was so annoyed that his blue balloons were abandoned/rejected, and then he realized that the paintings were basically his blue balloons.

Okay, theory time. I think that the entire Eagan family tree is currently residing inside Jame Eagan's noggin. Because severing has just been invented, that means all of them are sharing space and clamoring for dominance. So I think "The Board" is a single body which contains all the Eagans. Severance was invented as a way of separating out each of these individuals. Cold harbor is a test run to see if Gemma can be completely wiped clean (meaning that MDR is finding all the emotional baggage still left in her brain and removing it by sorting it into categories). Once she is totally hollowed out, she can be fitted with a chip containing the essence of an Eagan. Given that Helly is next in line, she is working against the clock to perfect the new process so she can avoid having the entire family line dumped into her head.

His eyes, body language, all of it is so subtle (and amazing acting btw), but it’s clear that he finds the situation patronizing at best, racially offensive at worst. Not entirely clear re Natalie but in their last wordless exchange, her eyes don’t match her words. Brilliant scene.
@jw-hy5nq6 күн бұрын
I don't think so. way too obvious I am betting the board is taking over Natalie and the end goal of cold harbor is to allow them to move totally into a human body. Milchick was just told his fate would be to be host to the board (Kier)
@eeah16 күн бұрын
@ Agree re the board in search of human body form (possibly), but I watched the actor who plays Milchick and Ben Stiller discuss the scene, and they did say that they wanted to address racial dynamics at Lumon. In my opinion, this scene was intended to show one way in which Milchick, up until now the ultimate company man, may not be completely in on the cult. It is loaded with old dead white men after all (I’ve also been watching snippets of Senate confirmation hearings this week so maybe I got old almost dead white men on the brain).
@tnijoo51096 күн бұрын
@@eeah1 I took Milcheck’s response to be sort of shocked by how racially insensitive they could be, definitely a wtf horror type of moment and I’m pretty sure either Natalie or the board knew he was horrified because she was then prompted to tell him that she had gotten the same thing and was positively affected. I think In the discussion after the episode Ben Stiller maybe says Milcheck is looking at Natalie to see if she’s an ally or if she’s actually as messed up as the board. It didn’t ever seem like he might have liked the paintings. Seemed very clear that he didn’t. And then he hid them away afterwards and looked like he was extremely disturbed by them and the company got thinking they were okay. I liked that part because it’s the first time you see Milcheck question Lumen at all. Before that he seems like a yes man to everything, fully devoted to the company. I like your thoughts on it and glad you brought up the after ending discussion about it.

What if Cobelvig's Mom was the first severed person? In that way the contradiction of stating her mother was both catholic and atheist could make sense. Her mom's innie and outie just had different views. I took it as a sign that Cobel was a manipulator that would say anything to accomplish her goals, but perhaps it was a nod in the very first episode that her mom was indeed the first severed person, or one of the first. Following the logic, it makes sense that Cobel would have ended up in a Kier orphanage after the prototype no doubt killed her mother(or perhaps she was an already terminal patient volunteer). Ok back to your vid. I paused it to comment. Been waiting all day for your drop. I truly appreciate your genuine enthusiasm. My reaction to this episode was the same. Her eyes are so dead, just like a real life Human Resources manager! She shows nothing. Milchick ask for her help with his eyes, and she just stays cold. It's chilling to watch. I got the sense from Gretchen's uniform that she might actually be a cop. The black and blue are often a color combo used. But someone else suggested that maybe she's a night security guard at Lumon. I could see paremedic as well, but the uniform didn't suggest nurse to me, because she's definitely not wearing scrubs. I think security gaurd for Lumon would be the most interesting for the storyline, though. It might explain how Dylan found the severed job. But she also seemed a bit confused by the security practices at Lumon, so maybe it doesn't really fit with what's happened so far.
@scootchisme6 күн бұрын
I thought the same thing about her being a cop or security guard. I went back and found a scene from S1 E1 where they show the security guard, (Judd, I think was his name?) but he has on grayish pants and a dark blue sweater with emblems on it, so I don’t think she’d be a guard at Lumon unless maybe the Severed floor security dresses differently? Whatever it is, since they very subtly showed her in uniform but didn’t really give any other information about her job, I’m sure it will be some important plot point in the future!

For give me for posting so many comments, please. But there is just SO much to say! Yesterday I watch a channel talking about the Eagan family. And it occured to me that the years don't really work. Kier was born in 1841 and he founded Lumon in 1865. It's possible of course. But he supposedly worked in the ether factory where he met Imogene and then worked as a Civil War doctor. I have the same question you do: why would he work as a common labourer in a factory if he had doctor training? But that's not all. His children, Ambrose and Myrtle, were born in 1885 and 1886, respectively. So Kier was 44 & 45 when they were born. How old was Imogene? If she was a similiar age to Kier, she'd probably be too old to have children. Or she was a child when they married, which is possible of course. And why didn't they have them earlier? I think Kier's children are either not "children of his blood" (and that's why he has such a thing about "children of my industry") . Or they were not born of Imogene at all. Maybe Imogene isn't even real and Kier is reproducing asecxually somehow (like a pineapple!) I want to imagine that Imogene died in childbirth and he's trying to avoid childbirth for everyone. But Kier's writings just don't say much about her. If she died, I'd think that the writings would have made her into a glorified, even diefied figure. But they barely mention her. And they also prohibit office romance, even though Kier and Imogene met at work. OMG, Geekademy! You're making me think so hard!!!

In “Convalescence”, it looks like him kneeling at the foot of the bed, praying, and in the “Macrodata/O&D” painting, the guy in the bottom right corner looks eerily like him as well. Adam Scott has a pretty distinct jawline, and both men seem to as well. I could see his importance as being someone whose physical body has been alive for hundreds of years, maybe as a vehicle for each Eagan to transport their consciousness to the next one or something like that, so he shows up in different eras and generations of the family.

Then there's the way her eyes said, "I get it. Smile too, so that you don't cause trouble for us both." I've had a few of these moments in my professional life with white colleagues or supervisors. Mark my words. In Milchick's (management system thingy) represents the cases they're working on - the CMR-L and CMR-R and SRC-L and SRC-R - the L and R are the two hemispheres of the brain. The row with 3 parts represents Ms. Huang - she was shown to play with a device with 3 hoops of 3 colors, and we've had 3 colors in lights so far (Ben Stiller also said that the lights carry a meaning). And the row with 5 ones - that's Ms. Casey - we saw transitioning from Mark's innie's screen at MDR (IIRC in episode 1) Ms. Casey/Gemma's Cold Harbor tracking interface or whatever it was, and it had *5* different boxes. So it's the 4 tempers and 1 additional one, which I think is the result of what happens when the 4 tempers are tamed - the overall progress of giving her whatever personality and memories Lumon wants her to have. Mark (no pun intended) my words. (And watch me be not 100% accurate because the writing team is just too good, haha)

You did not go deep enough into Cobel getting spooked by the Limo driver. Take another look. The Limo driver looks EXACTLY like the statue of Baird Eagan (CEO #4). Check out season 1's visit to the Perpetuity Wing. Cobel recognized him and figured that Lumon was resurrecting the dead, freaked out, and got the hell outta there !!!

I went back and checked (for anyone else wanting to check, the perpetuity wing tour was about 2/3rd through episode 3), and while I wouldn't say they look *exactly* alike I can certainly see a resemblance. It's interesting that Baird was mentioned by Felicia earlier this episode too. Then after looking at the scene in the car park again, trying to figure out the moment Cobel got spooked, it does indeed seem like it was when she saw the limo driver, with the camera shifting focus from Helena to him as he steps forward, as if to highlight what Cobel was looking at. If she's familiar with what the former CEOs look like, her reaction makes sense, but I don't know if I'm fully sold on the idea - it creates a whole bunch more questions. But either way that's a really sharp observation!

Ok I said this in a thread below but I'm putting it all together here for you to speculate ⬇ ⬇ Harmony means a perfect combination. Or something in a balance. And we know for sure, that Harmony's key colour is white: her hair, her car, the snow, 'salt neck'. The Lumon colours blue🔵 green 🟢 and red 🔴 all combine as a light source... TO MAKE WHITE!!! 🤯🤯🤯 She is a combination of everything. In perfect balance. She connects everything. ____ My theory is that she was the first cold harbour type operation, that managed to put her brain into perfectly equally combined buckets (a requirement of MDR) and now she is perfectly balanced (like Kier wanted) She saved her mum that way. She knows its possible and that's why she wants to prove it to everyone.

My theory on cold harbor is Cobel has ulterior motives. But she wants to see if it works on mark and gemma first. Hence all the things she’s done to see if they remember each other like the candle. She’s doing this because she wants to bring her mom back like Lumon brought back Gemma. It wouldn’t surprise me if Cobel was even involved with Gemma’s accident. But yea Cobel wants to bring her mom back

47:34 I think "the protocol" was just meant to refer to the set of questions they ask to new innies (or maybe that plus the overall process of adjusting them to the severed floor). Maybe there's some other meaning, but that's what I assumed, and I still think it's what she meant

RE: the reintegration contraption - The sand rested on a speaker, it’s a classic phenomenon. Basically the sand moves in patterns in response to the sound wave output, vibrating surrounding molecules, moving in rhythm with the wave’s frequency. Anyway, it only makes sense if she rigged the speaker to sync up with her machine’s input and/or output of his brain waves. Idk how that would work…but that’s what I think is going on here.

Look at the scene with Kobel and Helena when H says, “Let’s reset” and then Helena’s head tweaks weird and Kobel stands still own she is considering this and then she freezes and her eyeballs shudder a bit. This seems like an outside effect of activating the Severance chip or something Outie equivalent. Check it out.

I think Milchick felt profoundly insulted by the obvious tokenism of the gifts. He’s saying he is grateful causes he has to keep his job but inside I imagine he’s seething. He placed the folio of paintings on the top shelf in the back of his filing closet for a reason. He was just treated like a simpleton by his employer.

I don't think it's her husband. Cobel is too dedicated to Lier to have romantic relationships and I think that's part of the cult - same with Helena. I think it was the clean up guy who dealt with "problems" for Lumon...

I looked up milkmans name 1. Hebrew Origin - In the Bible, Seth (שֵׁת, Šēt) was the third son of Adam and Eve, born after Abel’s death. His name is often interpreted as meaning "appointed" or "placed", as Eve saw him as a replacement for Abel (Genesis 4:25). 2. Egyptian Mythology - Seth (or Set) was an ancient Egyptian god associated with chaos, storms, war, and the desert. He was sometimes seen as a disruptive force but also had protective qualities.

43:52 - I forgot what this device is called but basically it's a surface that acts like a speaker and amplifies vibrations. Based on those vibrations the sand moves. It's a way to visualize vibrations in 2D. And Lumen DEFINITELY perfected brain wave technology. They were able to put on existing brain waves additional information than what the brain creates naturally - or more accurately, the chip creates/makes the brain create additional neural activity that makes you basically have a 2nd brain. There's some neural activity you *must* have in order for your *body* to survive - like breathing, digesting food and so on - your brain sends signals to your organs to do these things. So reintegration syncs up these 2 distinct "brains" and combines them into one. That's why Mark now started to have access to his memories. Her questions acted as stimuli to make the cells/chip sync up. About the different brain frequencies - actual studies shows that the brain can shut down various parts of it - e.g when we sleep we're not (for most time and not fully) conscious, and it's been shown, for example, that if you don't get enough sleep empathy goes down, and there are dedicated neurons in the brain that have to do with empathy (mirror neurons - mirroring people's feelings and behavior).

19:50 didnt grainger have a black card that mark took after grainger got merc'd for the uprising? Also, regarding milcheck's reaction with the board i think he was pinned between maintaining his professional artiface/sense of gratitude in front of the big wigs and this confusion of unraveling this natural feeling of disgust/alienation at this distasteful gesture by the company hes trying to act graciously toward. It feels like one of the first moments we see him in a severed position while natalie is silently reaching out to him through her eyes but behind the smile. Undoubtedly a killer scene

I can see a cameo appearance of Kier’s mind being finally being incorporated into a younger version of himself (Keanu Reeves) That would be incredible. The cross references between the actor, and the principles of matrix, as well as the other little snippets like the white rabbit (as a car guy when I saw the car for the first time I even said to myself “follow the white rabbit”) it’s all so fitting. Love this show. My only complaint is I can’t couch lock and watch the rest of this season (and season 3) back to back without stopping. Keep up the great videos on this show, as well as others I enjoy.

the links to the song white rabbit are all over the place because it's Lewis Carroll's Alice In Wonderland. The White Knight is mentioned. The Red Queen. The Door Mouse. A hooka-smoking grinning catepillar who isn't quite all there. Takes a fall, She gets big and small. Chases a rabbit who is in a hurry. Feed Your Head! Also why Harmony liked the Stone Roses In 1990, the Stone Roses' infamous paint attack on Revolver Records occurred, as a result of a conflict between the band and their label. The band was unhappy with how the label handled the release of their single "Sally Cinnamon" and the accompanying video without their permission. To express their frustration, they decided to take matters into their own hands by visiting the label's office and throwing paint at the staff and property, including Paul Birch, (the founder and owner of Revolver Record)'s wife. The incident caused significant damage and led to legal consequences for the band members. In a later TV interview, band member Gary Mounfield - known as Mani - spoke about the incident. The bass guitarist said the group asked to stop at FADS DIY store in Northenden, on the outskirts of Manchester, to get tins of paint and overalls so guitarist John Squire could 'do some art'. The band were subsequently arrested and appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court charged with causing £15-20,000 worth of criminal damage. But to counteract, following the incident, Mr Birch said he estimated that the media hype alone had bought the group in excess of a quarter of a million pounds in publicity. Mani said that Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi from Black Sabbath congratulated them for the incident.[79] While the incident may be seen as a rebellious act by some, it also highlights the tension that can arise between artists and record labels. The Stone Roses' desire for creative control and their unconventional approach to the music industry led to this infamous event.[80]

I TOTALLY agree that it is Helena Eagan on the MDR floor and I think the moment when she cradles Irving's hand and tells him "we got you" is a hugely important moment because on one hand, we know that Irving's outie has some secret investigation into lumen, but I think it also tells us that his innie used to be doing the job of Milchick/Corbell or maybe even higher. And perhaps because of the atrocities he carried out, eventually he asked to be severed to forget the suffering he caused. And what I am looking forward to this season is a complete "flashback" episode when we see a younger Corbel and the younger Irving who is actually in charge of people and we will get so many more clues as to what is going on at lumen. But like you said Igor, we are so spoiled with the show because any one of these character's storylines would make for a brilliant TV show in end of itself!!
@RuthFleming-t9h6 күн бұрын
you asked about Milchick's reaction to the new pictures the board sent to him, if Milchick was moved positively or insulted. I think he was insulted, that's why he hid them away in the top of that closet or storage room. He put the pictures on the top shelf so that it would be unlikely that someone might accidentally stumble across them. Good observation about Kier in the ether factory! You're right about that. Back then, that kind of job would have been a labourer, if your family had money, you wouldn't choose to work in a job like that unless you wanted some kind of experience from it. I don't know of any rich family back then who would choose to work in a position like that. The History channel has a great mini series called The Men Who Built America. It mostly takes place in the industrial revolution & how some men made their fortunes while building empires that would mobilize the country. Some of the men were John Rockefeller, Thomas Edison, Andrew Carnegie, J P Morgan, Cornelius Vanderbilt & Henry Ford. It's an excellent series!

🐇 White rabbit isn’t the only reference to Lewis Carroll and Alice. In fact, Miss Cobel and Helena mirror the characters from another Carroll’s book 📖: "Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There". Helena is the Red Queen - she represents dominance, power, control and competitiveness. In her own words it takes her "all the running you can do just to keep in the same place". In evolutionary biology 🧬 the Red Queen Hypothesis represents the idea that species must constantly adapt and evolve in order to survive while pitted against ever-evolving opposing species. Miss Cobel is the ‘White Queen’. She represents irrational in this world. She lives in a non-linear world and experiences events before they happen. She strongly believes that cause and effect can be reversed and the idea of Impossible is just a trick of mind. In her world there are no limits. Her famous quote: "It's a poor sort of memory that only works backwards". Does this explain why she gets confused when rubbish is collected ? Little Alice eventually becomes a Queen herself. She defeats the Red Queen and there remain only two Queens on the chess board again ♟️
