Just a thought: Everyone seems to be blaming Helena for seducing/using Mark, in this episode, BUT, I think it’s possible that he’s seducing/using her. BIG difference. 1. After all, he should be reintegrated. When he sees Helena‘s face change, that’s pretty clear that he’s glitching. 2. He suddenly seems to not care about finding Gemma. If, given the previous episode, he truly felt he found out his wife was alive, he would NOT be banging Helena. 3. Mark’s non-responsiveness to Irv’s attempts to ‘kill’ Helly/Helena. Allowing Exposing the truth about her, VS, her dying by Irv’s hand. It only takes, relatively, two short dunks, before MARK seems to be more interested in hearing/watching the situation play-out, versus, doing anything to save her. He also seems to immediately accept that she was a liar The moment she calls Milchik, ‘Seth.’ For what it’s worth✌🏻

Am I the only one who thinks the severed world is actually a form of virtual reality? I'm starting to believe that the employees bodies are stored when they get to work and their consciousness is uploaded into a simulated 'Lumen' environment. In this episode the characters were obviously supposed to be in the cold, but i never saw their breath. I know we have characters (like Milchick) who seem to move in and out of the building seemingly normally, but If those severance chips can switch a person's consciousness immediately (like Hellie/Helena was forced to do) then Milchik's quick mobility between these two states of consciousness can be explained. The improbable architecture of the Lumen building (an interior goat pasture?) and the equally unlikely building designs described by the fired 'replacements' bolsters my speculation.

He told Dylan “Remember, hang in there!” That refers to a poster in the Break Room, of Dylan, hanging onto those switches for the OTC Contingency. I bet that Irving hid something behind the poster, perhaps inspired by Peter’s map on the back of the group photo…also, I bet that Felicia from O&D helped him with that! I can’t wait to see what he left for Dylan!

I think this has been an underappreciated acting job from Britt Lower this season. It's one thing to play quite different characters in Helly and Helena, but her acting job with Helena pretending to be Helly -- a 3rd character, really -- has been subtle and really damn good.

There’s a theory that Irving has been reintegrated since season 1 (hence the weird black paint dreams at his desk & the pay phone when he said his innie got the message) and perhaps that prompted him to hide something in there that he’s been working on.

What if Dieter 'spilt his lineage' upon more than just the soil,by fathering children before he died? That would mean that there is ANOTHER line of Eagons out there, which I'm sure the Lumon Eagons would be very curious about, especially if Kier and Dieter were identical twins sharing the same DNA. This got me thinking about why Mark S is so important to Lumon -- he could potentially be a descendent of Dieter, so quantifying his brain structure and emotional response via MDR would be of great interest to Lumon. Mark S really seems to be the center of MDR's goals in the eyes of Lumon, and this would explain why. Let's see!!!

The files they are working on are the literal act of them each “taming” a temper… which is why Helly was told she will “know” which numbers to “group” in season 1. Mark is Frolic (Mark’s relationship with Helly & Gemma) and Dylan is Dread (the most fearful of the group, hence him being manipulated by Lumen this season).

Ok, i love this reaction! And can we talk about the thing above the “glasgow” feature? Stick with me here, It said “freeze frame”. Did lumon pause the awakening of the innie and then set them up in the forrest? Because no way the outies of each person besides helena would approve of them being put in a freezing forrest, OR even be gone for more than the 8 hours that they have committed to in a shift for the day! AND Below the “glasgow” feature it says “goldfish” maybe they can erase their innies memories! And maybe when they reset irv before, he was walked down that hallway that went down to the next level which his outtie is remembering!!!

Ooh good catch! Yeah I was wondering if this was some type of simulation but the freeze frame makes more sense. And in one of the last breakdowns they mentioned a clue from Stiller that said to pay attention to marks tray. The time reflects a regular 8 hour shift but the day was the next day. They may keep them working longer than they know. If freeze frame is one of the options then they probably did set them up outside for this trip. And goldfish would be erasing their memories of that.

Further, I think that MDR is not only trying to create consciousness, but they are trying to create consciousness free of the 4 tempers: woe, malice, dread and frolic. The fact that they group those tempers and put them in a bin is actually them directly removing those emotions from the copy's consciousness. The copies will be their replacement - a more obedient replacement that will be the perfect slave-worker, without the emotions (or tempers) that would prevent them from obeying. Ms Casey's copy was probably just a prototype of that, but now they're closer to perfecting them.

Gotta admit, after ep 3 and early reactions to 4, I was really amped for a high octane episode of Mark bouncing back and forth between his 2 brains. I was just as frustrated and confused as the innies that we’re suddenly in the middle of nowhere and don’t rly ramp up again until end of episode. I respect the confidence the show has to take its time and pace its reveals, but for now I’m just anxious for next week.

Funny how they were on ORTBO....meanwhile there were 'ROBOT' duplicates of them, pointing where to go. Also Kier means a cow-herder in German, which I believe Lumon has invented Kier as a metaphor for herding humans like livestock....like actual cattle. It's becoming clear that THE FOUR TEMPERS and the Bucket Sorting relate to the management of emotions or memories of severed individuals, and Mark has been working on Gemma's brain. I think Mark must represent Woe and Dylan is Frolic, Irving is Dread, and Hellie is the crone, Malice. I believe Memories are a major factor, and are the 'Data' part of Macrodata... aka, long term memories, (microdata, short term memories)....all 4 staff work on the same file, and it EXPIRES (As said in Season 1), hence they have to finish it quickly. The irony is that Gemma was their therapist, meanwhile they are working directly on her brain (Cold Harbor) and don't even know it. Outie Mark is trying to save Gemma, and Innie Mark now has to save Hellie R. This theme of saving people and threatened lives is a strong one....even the Goat Department IMMEDIATELY said 'have you come to kill us'. That was a weird one... I don't know if I loved it... I mean I did, because it's severance... but something about the whole thing being outdoors I didn't super love....but if I didn't have to wait a week for the next episode, I'd probably say I loved it.

That feeling you have is also part of the show where you’re meant to feel comfortable when you see them inside the building with the white lights and large space even though it’s a basement and prison like but the shots outside are made to look moody and trapped in the vast outdoor like a prisoner even though there lots of space. IMHO Great write up.

_Here’s my take on this:_ Each of the 4 employees represents one of the 4 tempers. The files they are working on are the literal act of them each “taming” a temper… which is why Helly was told she will “know” which numbers to “group” in season 1. Irving is Woe (his longing for Burt). Helly is Malice (trying to unalive herself). Mark is Frolic (Mark’s relationship with Helly & Gemma) and Dylan is Dread (the most fearful of the group, hence him being manipulated by Lumen this season).

18:58 I think you’ve got the numbers thing wrong. It’s much simpler. They’re just spelling out “EGAN”. Going by their place in the alphabet: 5 = E 7 = G 1 = A 14 = N (combining the 1 and 4, or looping around to get 4, either way) So 1,4,5,7 can correspond to “EGAN.” Also, there are TEN possible numbers on the screen including zeros (which do normally appear), so lining them up with the nine core principals is already a stretch.
