Severe Snow Storm Camping in the Catskills with Black Diamond Hilight Tent

Severe winter snow storm camping in the Catskills NY. My tent is a Black Diamond hilight 3p, and as you will see in this video, it withstands 2.5 feet of heavy wet snow without any problems at all. I do not recommend you go camping in this type of weather. We both have experience and all the proper gear needed to do campimg like this. Our snowshoeing out during the storm in 3+ feet of wet heavy snow was extremely difficult and borderline dangerous, so I did not film any footage of the 3.5 hours to cover 1 & 3/4 miles down the mountain and out the trail head parking lot. Just know that it was very difficult even with the snow shoes, our experience, and our level of fitness. I can say if we did not have the snowshoes, there was absolutely no way of us getting off that mountain safely.. between the snow accumulations, the very deep snow drifts, the wind and the snow falling, it was HARD!

Yes i saw your video of it!! That actually made me sway away from the First Light.. figured I would try the Hilight instead.. fortunately for me it worked well in this situation. I love all your videos you post!! Thankyou for taking the time to make them!!

Quite the winter adventure! That's a lot of friggin' snow to deal with. Props on doing two nights out there. Big win with the plow taking care of the lot before you came out of the woods.

Yes sir!! If I had enough fuel and some extra food.. and did not have to be back to work.. I would probably still be up on that mountain!!! Yes the Plows in Catskills are Top notch!! I have never had issues with trail head parking lots or streets being messy. I was concerned this time.. however, when we stepped out of the woods, the plow was actually just finishing up the lot!! Kudos to Catskill snow plows!! The BEST!

@@dirtbagoutside it was bomber....though I sold it to a buddy....I bought and now are using a Ferrino Snowbound 3. Love it. The black diamond was huge but I liked everything about it........I also bought a Kuiu Storm Star for hunting season....just myself as a 1 person I have friends in Montana that have it and really like it for hunting solo. all the Best!

Y'all were brave. I can see they have blazes on trees but I would still be worried about the snow covering the trail. Making it disappear.😮 Enjoyed the video!

Thank you!! Yes there are blazes on the trail, however on the way out, the trail was fully covered and a lot of the blazes were also covered in snow on sides of trees. On top of that, many, if not all of the pine trees branches were so heavily covered in snow that they draped over and down blocking much visibility,, and it was snowing very hard with some pretty good winds!! Getting down off that mountain was a legit challenge in those conditions. Thanks for checking out!!

Great tent! Single wall yes. Condensation was minimal if anything at all. So many ways to vent and it just never accumulated much condensation of any concerns. Also so much room inside the tent that touching the walls was not an issue either!!
