Susie has been experiencing thumb pain (trigger finger) on her right hand for 2 months, which has stiffened the thumb to the point where she cannot flex it without significant pain at an 8/9 out of 10. It is hard to lift chairs with the affected finger. Cross friction massage did not work to treat the trigger finger. I have the exact same symptoms. Thumb stiff in the mornings, unable to bend. With time I can get it to bend with a sharp click and pain. if I hold the thumb right at the clicking point for a few seconds, it seems to stretch out the pulley where the tendon is sticking and I have free range of motion until I leave it static for awhile. I have tried transverse friction and it seems to help. Not sure I want to do surgery, I would rather understand what is going wrong.

Every single one of my fingers is a trigger finger. In a relaxed stated, my fingers bend very close to my palms. When I was growing up, I was severely bullied and would ALWAYS cover my palms with my fingers or clench my fist. I started when I was about 9. I fractured my finger and I think it healed improperly. I tried to catch a ball while playing sports and now it’s been sonde November,2020... it gets stiff. Hi Doc! I have a question for you can I'm not really sure what it's called. My Mother's thumb really hurts very badly and she can't Bend it. She can only bend it when she does and exercise but it only works for a few mins. I'm not sure but I think it has been happening for quite a few weeks and even months.
