Severe turbulence during Singapore Airlines flight leaves 1 dead, several badly injured

A Singapore Airlines flight hit severe turbulence over the Indian Ocean and descended 6,000 feet (around 1,800 meters) in about three minutes, the carrier said Tuesday. A British man died and authorities said dozens of passengers were injured, some severely. An airport official said the 73-year-old man may have had a heart attack, though that hadn’t been confirmed. His name wasn’t immediately released.

It's probably because of the ultra thin and long Wing that's on the Boeing it acts as a spring. You can see this during takeoff when it is under constant load. It flexes and that's what the engine's applying a constant force, but that same flex with sporadic inputs across the flying surface is going to result in a very bouncy aircraft.

I bet with the amount of stress that that plane went through, that they are still using it in service with zero maintenance. The flight crew said that the plane dropped almost 700 ft in one lurch from turbulence which is not common. That puts a lot of stress on a plane.

Singapore Airlines is one of the safest airlines in the world, that plane most certainly will be taken out of service and inspected.

Extreme conditions exist right now . Planes can face drastic changes in split second as current changes split seconds , check North America to South America temperature reading , it will scare you . Sandwiched by North Pole expansion to South Pole expansion, I calculated few years ago , this happening . Good luck 👍

Most of the fuel is sloshing around in the wings, which dampens the springiness. If the plane flies into a strong downforce, the nose goes down, the tail goes up, and for the people in the back it's like having someone jump on the other end of a seesaw.

@@johnstuartsmith on the new plane there is a great level of springiness. You can see it during takeoff. Look at how much the Wing flexes on that aircraft. It's not as rigid as a standard aircraft Wing. And during take off the engines are applying a equal load from side to side during flight. That's not the case because mother nature and atmosphere is not going to be equal side to side and you can get a whip type of effect across that airfoil from One Wing to the other and the fuselage being right in the middle is going to experience more springiness. They have several videos on KZbin showing The degree to which that aircraft Wing bends during takeoff. I heard that the wing is only affixed with epoxy on the newest Boeing and with that level of springiness in the wing is probably only a matter of time before that adhesive fails. It's like a plastic hinge. There's only so many bins in its life You can see it. Type in 777 Wing flex.
