Way before my time but still amazing to see. I used to visit my dad every weekend during the 80s. He lived in rusty caravan park and I used to spend my pocket money in berts burger bar amusements.

this will make you smile. I went on a sunday school trip to Severn Beach. I seem to remember there being a little boating lack. I was being silly and trying to get from one little boat to another when they parted company. I fell into the water and soaked all my clothes. The Sunday school teacher and everyone else held out the very large flared skirt (fashion in those days) just to get them dry enough for me to get onto the train and home to Bristol. Amazing memory for a ten year old!

I'm not surprised it stayed in you memory, I had a surprise soaking when 11, walking accross a ''shallow'' knee deep river, in sandals and shorts; except I stepped into a deep hole in the river bed. Luckiy, only up to my armpits.

I'm amazed that you have had no comments from local people. I was just about to take myself off for a brisk walk along the Binn Wall, when, quite by chance, I noticed your post. My first acquaintance with Severn Beach was in the late 1960s when, as a former Bristol Siddeley Coventry apprentice, I was sent on a seven-week residential course at the R-R Technical College (as it was then) at the bottom of Filton Hill. I recall that two or three of us, who were not locals, decided to explore the sights and found ourselves at Severn Beach, where there was still a funfair. In 1982, I transferred to R-R Bristol and a treat for my small children was to go to Severn Beach and have a go on the trampolines, on the site of what is now the Tea Cottage.

Yes, I’m from Filton and remember all of this in the mid 50s to 1961, even went swimming in the open air pool, a very busy place then. My distant relation owned or ran the fun fair, no discount though. ☹️

I was 13, when my family moved to Severn Beach from the Midlands.. This was in 1955. It was a lovely hot Summer that year. I and my sibblings had a great time, learning to swim in 'The Blue Lagoon'', and on the boating lake. We were always within ear-shot of the music from the 'Joy-Rides'. especially Heals Dodgems, where we heard all the latest Chart Hits. Going to the ' Rustic Cinema' , well named, as it was made of Corrugated iron (even the roof ) which was full of rust holes, where sun beams shone down through it, and ''spotted us' sitting in our less than posh seats. I suppose those holes helped to ventilate a very hot place. Also, riding our bikes , exploring the maze of green narrow Lanes, to Aust, etc, sometimes getting lost. It was a paradise for us kids,with so much to see and do. But later that year, we moved into Bristol City.

@@historymandave4739 Thanks for reading my 'story' Dave. Because we were between 'Houses' ( dads Job offer fell through ) we stayed in S. B, from May till November. And because of the uncertainty of moving, We actually had, only 5 weeks schooling that year. Being kids, we thought it was great to be on 'permanent holiday' .
