my side gusset does not come up to the top of the bag like yours, if you look at the pattern it wont either, top part is 6inchs from the gusset and the gusset is only 5.5 inches, am i missing something?

That is perfectly correct. The gussets do not come right up to the zip. If you look carefully at the pictures in the pattern it’s shows that it doesn’t. My measurements are correct
