This was a great sew-along. You have a talent for simplifying intimidating pattern explanations. The Big Four has so many beautiful pattern options and great sales, but Instructions are very sparse. Thank You for the clear directions . I made a Big OOPS on my Dawn creation. Being over confident, and not paying attention to the cutting out directions, I only cut out one each piece #10 and #9( the neck band and front band) . If I was paying attention, I would have realized these are Not Facings. Well, it could work as a facing , but one would have to add about an inch to #10, and the front fit would be a bit snugger. 😂

I am sew excited to find this video and now am subscribed to you for your other videos. Your pincushion just puts a smile on my face every time it shows up on the screen! Anyhow, I am following this to make my own dress with the same pattern and I want to say thankyou for making this sew-along as this is really so helpful for me on my first try at making a dress . Beautiful fabric choice. It doesn’t look like it, but Did you have any issues matching the back bodice neckline to the back facing neck piece? For some reason my pieces don’t match. I cut the pieces out of muslin to see if I made a mistake cutting the fabric and I’m running into the same issue. I wonder if the neckline stretched somehow although I staystiched it. I’m stumped. Yeah

Yes! I had a similar problem, I ended up shortening my neckline facing at the seam lines in order to make it fit. Perhaps it was a drafting error?

@@ElinEstelle That’s a great solution. I’ll try shortening the seam allowance and see if it works! My other thought was to staystitch the facing and then clip in the curve but I think that would stretch it too much! Thanks for your help!

Your dress is beautiful! Loving the fabric too. My questions is more of a technical one to do with the 2-piece buttonhole packet down the front. Is there a reason that you sewed the INTERFACED band and neck facings directly onto the dress front and the UNINTERFACED band and neck facings onto the the interfaced band instead of the opposite? I'm trying to find out what some reviewers are talking about when they say (on Pattern Review) that the instructions in step 23 was incorrect. Otherwords, do you find it is it better to have the interfaced side on the outside of the dress or inside? Sorry if this sounds confusing but it's a lot to think about or does it really matter? Thanks for your response.

Yes! That is a great question. I first sew the top layer because it will look cleaner when enclosing the placket. Flipping under the uninterfaced piece, it is easier to fold under and doesn't have to look perfect. Meanwhile, you can use the stitch in the ditch method on the front in order to make it look extra professional. I also choose to use the interfaced piece on the top because of the fact that it will always look cleaner. When doing button holes and buttons it is easy for the fabric to pucker and warp. Having the interfacing will ensure it lies flat!

I had the same question. The whole neck band had me confused as they don’t show you a clear diagram of how to attach it together. I tried sewing it on back to front with the narrow side against the seam 🤦🏻‍♀️. I don’t know want I was thinking 🤔! Thanks for the reply, it actually makes more sense to me that how they tell you to do it.

I am currently making this dress. I am finding that the back facing is too small (by about 4 inches) for the back neckline. Is this me?! I have checked that I am using the correct pattern piece and the correct size. I am experienced sewer but this might end up unfinished! Can you help please?

Had the same issue - the instructions from what I can make out are not correct in how they describe/show attaching the neckline! Ignore the instructions - this video seems to get over the issue. You need to attach the longer edge of the neckband to the body back (that way it'll be the right size). Also worth noting that the seams from the neck band the body band don't match up. Hope that helps! It took me forever to figure out also.

Thank you for this. I've had exactly the same issue and will now have to unpick. Very disheartening, but glad it's not me, There is no clear illustration in the instructions, on what is probably the trickiest part of the construction. I wish I'd found this video first, it's excellent. Thankyou so much Elinestelle

It’s not just you! I ended up shortening it about 2” on each side at the shoulder seams in order to make the facing match up
