Could you use muslin for the overalls? Or even your cute bloomers? I have a baby due in summer and think lighter fabric might be nice

Definitely! Are you talking about like a muslin gauze? It would work for both projects. Muslin is pretty thin so you may want to just double check your tension on your machine so it doesn't pull while sewing :)
