*SewTites Magnetic Sewing Products 🧲 get 15% off your order with coupon code SEWINGREPORT* www.sewtites.com/products/sew-magnetic-cutting-system?ref=c6e1uc9g (affiliate link) Thanks to SewTites for sending me the Sew Magnetic Cutting System to try out & share with everyone! #notsponsored *Wanted to add this note: normally I do not accept free products from companies (common practice with influencer marketing) but SewTites provided this item with ZERO CONDITIONS / TERMS, which is extremely rare. There was no obligation or expectation for me to produce any content in exchange for the magnetic cutting system, and I had 100% free reign to say whatever I want. Maintaining editorial & creative control over Sewing Report content is a huge priority for me, and it's been difficult finding brands that understand this. Yes, this is a higher priced item and it's not in everyone's budget. However, I do think SewTites deserves credit for the level of integrity I have personally experienced in my interactions with this small business.*

Great idea, but the price is too much for the casual sewer. However, like you mentioned, sewists with hand issues may find it very helpful and worth the cost. Thanks for showing the latest!

There have been smaller magnetic cutting mats for paper crafters. If you open up the mat it will have a thin sheet of steel in the middle. A much more cost effective option that I have been using for over a decade is to buy a magnetic whiteboard large enough to cover your table top and put normal cutting mats on top. Neodymium magnetic a little pins can be used instead of the proprietary magnets, I find them easier to grasp. Cheap alternative to Sewtite magnets are magnetic badge holders. Same magnets, no fancy plastic coating. I created a machine embroidery pattern for ribbon sleeves for the magnetic badge holders to give me a ribbon tab to help separate the magnets

Costs more than I would spend at this point in my life. Like you point out if I were to develop a mobility or strength issue then I would relook at it. It isn't that I wouldn't spend the funds if I needed it, after all I have some pricy machines. I know people who own expensive Accuquilt machines and dies because ease of cutting due to their strength issues. This is in same price range.

Omg that prize is crazy. Right now I have my big mat on my table with sheet metal under it (so same idea). I thought this would be safer and easier for when it needs to be cleaned etc. But yikes I don't make that kind of money yet from my products, so I'll stuck with my diy one. Maybe one day I can afford this much improved safer version. 😢❤

I covered the edges of my sheet metal with duct tape to prevent cuts from the sharp edges. I also added a silicone mat under the sheet metal and between the sheet metal and my cutting mat to protect my cutting mat. I purchased coated magnets made for use with magnetic embroidery hoops. Holds my rulers or pattern pieces or templates securely.

Please add another update after you've used it more. Seems like it would add time to cutting quilt pieces if you had remove the magnets each time you wanted to move the ruler along the same fabric for more cuts, or can you still simply slide the ruler down with the magnets still on top of the ruler?
@SewingReport

I was able to slightly lift up the ruler and switch out fabric pretty easily, so I didn't have to keep repositioning the magnets between cuts.

I haven’t done it yet, but think I would put the metal sheet between my cutting mat and the table top. My cutting mats are 30” by 60”. And 26” by 38”

I agree the price is way too much. As others have mentioned, I have created basically the same concept by placing a sheet of sheet metal under my regular Olfa cutting mat. Ordered a few coated magnets sold for use with magnetic embroidery hoops and it works great.

Lots of comments about the price. I agree it's very expensive. And while this may be due to the magnetic properties of the product, they also seem to be spending some of the cost on packaging this product. Not sure that is necessary. I'm waiting on this to see what the consumer response is long term.

Thanks for the review. My question is how fast is it? The price isn't bad if I could increase my speed and decrease mistakes which indirectly increases speed and quality. If I may ramble. The same doward force can be achieved with a heavier pattern weight. Probably don't need the amount of force the magnets give, so matching them would like be harder to move around than needed. But my point is, if there is slipping, use heavier weights until it isn't a problem. And make sure the surface is flat, magnets are almost a must if using say a wall or heavily slanted table. Like a sketching table, or easle. Artist doing mixed media stuff, idk people might not have room for a big flat table in some situations and studios. Just saying it opens up ideas for how to work where the price is fine. Anyway, back to flat tables, do the weights need to be so heavy to have the same benefits that magnets have an advantage because they release when lifted high enough? A very subjective question but that's what reviewing is, subjective opinions. I would love to see a honest comparison between using good pattern weights and techniques or using essentially magnetic patterns weights and good techniques. Which gets the job done faster, better and reliable. Thanks again for the review and demo

While I like the idea, the price is too high. While some people may think otherwise, you’re getting a single magnetic mat, magnets and a ruler. I understand their manufacturing costs but I also feel in todays economy this may not have been the ideal time to release the product. Thank you for your honest reviews. Have a great week!

For people who have a pacemaker or some other metal device in their body, how dangerous is it for people to pass by the Cutting System? Is it like the old microwaves when they first came out? I am free of any metal in my body but what type of metal products are okay? Is it just the pacemaker that has an issue or any metal object? The product looks enticing and user friendly for people who have muscle issues. Thank you for the review.

I agree wholeheartedly with everyone who says the price is a game ender. As a Canadian living in Canada who has hand issues $375. U.S. I would not buy the product as in Canadian funds I would be looking at most likely over $500 for the product alone not to mention shipping and Customs fees.

Great innovation by SewTites. However, given the current state of our economy, the $375 price tag makes it a hard pass for me even with a 15% discount. I know many quilt shops have been negatively impacted by the inflation rate, as regular quilting customers have cut way back on the amount of fabric they purchase.

I get that it might be somewhat of a expense to manufacture but if it is not made solely in the USA it didn't cost them that much to produce and sell. Every since this covid array these companies have been really taken advantage of the consumers. I just think it's sad.

Thank you for watching & appreciate your thoughts. The folks at SewTites have been very upfront & easy to work with throughout the interactions I've had with this small business. You are welcome to believe what you want to believe, but I do not have any evidence this company wants to take advantage of consumers. As a longtime content creator, it is *very difficult* to find brands willing to provide products to us without crazy conditions and unreasonable expectations of control over the content. The fact that SewTites was willing to provide this item to me without any of the typical influencer marketing BS says a lot about their integrity, and it's quite refreshing. I turn down the vast majority of offers for "free products," because the companies are not willing to abide by my terms: www.sewingreport.com/contact-us/workwithme/
