High street fashion is usually a reflection of our time. We are still in the midst of a global pandemic, and these patterns can be looked at as the comfort food of fashion.

Many of the patterns you’ve shown us are classics, and I appreciate that. Muted, oversized and comfortable are right up my street but I feel my mood lift when I incorporate a splash of red. Thanks Kate!

Thank you, very useful for an older sewer who doesn’t really know the fashion trends anymore. You’ve certainly done a lot of homework on this.

I am 5 ‘1 feet tall and 115lbs most all of these new styles drown me ... so now I am just going back to slimmer styles dresses but just update the fabrics ... love the oversized flowing look for summer but for fall too much ... love your vlogs thank you

I like it when you view things with a critical eye. Being a bit less generous than you are here, what I'm seeing from the High Street take is a lot of day time pyjamas, dressing gown coats and grandma nighties. This is lockdown wear, and I think it's a bit sad. When people get more confident that they really can be out and about, I think we'll see a rejection of that look. I'm keen to see what happens then...could be exciting.

I agree and in addition, designers could lead the way in helping to lift people’s moods with a splash of brighter colours and cheerful prints. I’ve never followed seasonal colours or any trend for that matter, I wear what makes me happy and we all need an injection of fun and happiness with the way things have been and especially as winter is fast approaching

I’ve sewn that Vogue trench coat and it really is divine: probably one of my favourite makes from earlier this year! Great episode, Kate. ❤️

The Hovea Jacket & Coat by Megan Neilson is a quilted jacket that also might suit. It has a much larger size range 0-20 & Curve 14-34

I admire all your input and work you do. I just finished a quilted jacket but did contrast binding, zipper and also added a hood. Now I'm making the Guy Larouche trench coat but made 2 storm flaps in front and shorter and a contrast front facing and made a poly print lining and base fabric from heavy linen. What a fabric hog but I also enlarged to make oversize. I must have read your sharp designer mind! Thanks

i wonder if the global supply chain slowdown is responsible for all of the shops being a season behind. i've postulated that it might be responsible for the staying power of some of the trends this year (puffy sleeves, shirt jackets, etc).

Thanks so much Kate.Love your videos My Prima oversized shirt from the 1980s will be bang on trend and I still have bohemian patterns from my early sewing days that look like they will be perfect. It's just the bubble trousers, and I shall be wearing colour not neutral.

I actually want to get my hands on a shacket pattern. I have been eyeing some cute ones, which I never thought I would add to my wardrobe but I have it on my list for fall! I also really like the Viki Sews top.

Brilliant research, as always😊 👍 There are a couple of Simplicity 'hacking' patterns that might work as well: 8701 for the high waisted jeans and 8700 for oversized shirt/shacket. Not exhaustive research - I just happen to have those patterns 😉🤫🤣

Thanks Kate, I found this really helpful, I feel like I’m living in shorts and T-shirts for the last 5 months (even when May was chilly) I need some fashion and sewing inspiration for the autumn/winter. I love the Tamarack jacket, merchant and Mills has amazing quilted fabric. As a total side note May I say how gorgeous your curls are looking, weird comment I know but I have curl envy

Another great round up Kate but I can’t be having all those dull colours in the winter 🥲 my mood goes down in the dark days and I need an injection of beautiful bright happy colours. Patterns are great but again if you aren’t a fan of oversized what are we to do! I may just try and get new slightly larger sleeves and start from there. Thanks for the research as it is really great when many of us don’t get to the shops for a fun day anymore xx

I love these roundups! I look forward to them every season. There are 2 American Indie pattern companies that have shackets in testing or sneak peeks now, too. For the big coat the Greenstyle Molly - it came out a little late last season so hasn't been super popular but definitely fits the trend. I love big sleeves but I'm trying to figure out how these will fit in winter coats? And going into fall with cropped tank tops? Heavy shaker sweaters are everywhere, too. Maybe they can't figure what the weather will do?

Great video but dismal trends. I have a small frame and anything oversize swamps me. And such dull dull colors. That’s me out of fashion again - will go with existing (fairly fitted) patterns and some brighter colours. Too old to be ‘with it’ (and that dates me already) anyway!

Fab video, thanks Kate, but blimey, such a regurgitated and uninspiring, typical autumn/winter bland colour palette, even the models look muted and miserable! I personally think that designers have missed a huge opportunity in leading the way to lift people’s spirits with a splash of colour and cheerful prints. I’ve never been one to follow seasonal colours or trends, I wear what makes me happy and we all need an injection of fun and happiness with the way things have been and especially as winter is fast approaching here in the U.K. I guess the bonus is that we’ll be getting a lot of use out of the patterns we’ve bought that have been released over the last 2 years and we can brighten our lives and those we meet with our colour/print choices 😊
