Hayley...what an awesome vlog!!! Thank you so much for slowly and clearly going through the french seam , laying in the sleeves flat on a woven and very new to me the interfacing method. Makes so much sense...only half way through your lovely video...have to go to bed but wanted to make sure you knew how much I appreciate your tips...will look forward to the rest tomorrow and your other vlogs. xx Karen

So excited to learn that new interfacing technique!! I don't have an overlocker and it's fun to know something besides pinking and zigzag. Your dress is very pretty on you!

Thank you, I loved finishing the interfacing this way and have done it since!

When inserting a sleeve on the flat it easy enough to use a French seam for the professional finish to which we all aspire. Happy stitching!

Great rescue, so glad you were able to save it. I believe the flat felled seam is used here because it is a very durable seam finish and where the skirt meets the bodice is are area with a lot of weight/stress on it.

Lucky you had the extra fabric to remake what didn't work for you. Huge improvement, and so flattering. Looks a little big in the waist, perhaps a thin elastic casing to pull it in and add a bit of gathering there? But regardless of that, this dress will be one you reach for frequently and receive compliments every time you do so. Well done you

Thank you so much, yes it was definitely lucky I had enough fabric otherwise it just wouldn’t have been worn at all!

Those of us with Pear body shapes just feel better with a fuller skirt. Good to know when I make mine, because I also love this pattern and bought it. Luckily we sew, and can hack patterns to suit our bodies better😊

Yes, definitely a fuller skirt for me! But always useful to try new things - even if to confirm what you already knew!! Enjoy sewing it up!

I used that interfacing technique in the 90s. I had forgotten about it. Thanks for reminding me. You can often but not always set in a sleeve flat. depends on the circumference of the armhole and the fit. Love the circle skirt. I need to try that on a shirtdress I am currently unhappy with...

i now set in all my sleeves the way that you have done today as its easier and neater to overlock or flat fell or faux french the sleeve seam .

So amazing! I also do not like shirt dresses but…I am making another one right now! lol. I am trying the Silversaga Juliette dress. I am having to adjust it to my size with a FBA and adding at the waist too but with the elastic neckline with no collar but button up front and pleats at the waist, I hope I like this style of shirt dress. I don’t like collars anymore. My style has changed a lot as I now prefer a looser fit instead of a tailored fit. I have had this dress in my head for a long time and now an interview has pushed me to make it now. Wish me luck!

My sewing machine/overlooking mechanic would have a heart attack, hearing your suggestion to knot your overlooked threads and stitching through. He mentioned it's very damaging for your tension discs.
