I think it’s genius to make your own $300 dress! It looks great! You get the look, but you can really fine tune the fabric choice and details. Looks like a very fun getaway.

My mom and I made that dress for my junior prom back in 1975. We made the long version with long sleeves. We used a blue floral sprigged cotton lawn, lace on the cuffs and the front of the bodice panel. I had it in my possession until the late 1990s when the box that all my non-wool vintage dresses were in disappeared.

I just found out my towns little knitting shop does a knit and natter every Tuesday so I’m planning on learning to knit now. But a sewing group sounds so fun too it must be so lovely to sew with people. I love how this dress turned out I love that colour and pattern looks amazing on you xx

Such a cute dress!! I have a damaged and way too small for me Candi Jones dress (that I used for dress-up when I was a kid!) and I've been planning for years to upcycle it into a Gunne Sax-style dress using the ruffles and corset front. This has definitely inspired me to actually get working on that!

The dress turned out so cute! A sewing retreat sounds so fun. I personally love cutting on a table, though the biggest advantage I’ve found to using the floor is being able to lay the whole length of fabric out. I use the floor when I have to pattern match. Otherwise I’m using our ancient pool table with a large cutting matt as my setup. It’s pretty nice but I can only lay about 5 ft at a time

I can guarantee that EVERY sewist has forgotten to cut a bodice piece on the fold at least once. With limited fabric, sometimes you have no choice and have to cut it in two pieces.
