I really believe in staystitching! Learned to sew in elementary school in the 60's. (Yes, I'm that old!) It's easy to forget this step but it really pays off!❤

I agree and usually do. Too excited to make it xx

That has happened to me a few times even though I stay stitched the neckline. It's the fabric that for some reason goes wonky! Last time that happened, I just folded over the neckband in half towards the inside and just topstitched in down. Of course...I pressed it really well before stitching it down and that helped to smooth out the wrinkles. Lovely and colorful outfit! Can't wait to see you wear it 😁

I'm always blown away by your lovely makes, the gorgeous fabrics and how much you get done! All I can suggest for your beautiful, annoying top is either tacking first or using a walking foot...possibly both? Good luck I hope you get it sorted as it is so lovely ❤

I have made 7 bob pants in all weights 😂 RE the pockets, I extend them to the waist when cutting them out and love it. Can't wait to see yours. I can wear these easily with sandals but once socks and shoes are needed for winter, I have trouble styling them

Hi Sam. I love your fall sews -- the colors and patterns are lovely. On the print woven top, you could try drafting your own front facing (trace off from the front pattern piece and be sure the grain line matches that of the front). Yes, I also avoid the selvege because it is more tightly woven. Or you could use bias tape but make sure it's made out of fabric similar to the top. If you just can't get it to work, you could try cutting a narrow strip of lightweight jersey fabric to use like bias tape, either to sew on to the neckline and then finish (which has its own challenge in sewing knit and woven fabrics together) or make it wider with an extra fold so you can wrap it around the raw neckline and stitch it down in one line of stitching. In terms of a potential ironing board chat topic, I'd love to hear about your approach to keeping track of changes to a pattern once you've modified it. I know some people just make notes on the pattern or in a log book. I'm trying to get tried and true patterns, so I usually transfer back the changes I made on the garment to the paper pattern so next time if I use similar fabric, I just have to pull out my rolled-up pattern pieces. But it does take a lot of time to transfer back the little tweaks. And with multiple changes, it gets messy, so I end up retracing with a new base pattern to continue tweaking to get things the way I want. Some people might not need to alter a pattern at all -- for those I am envious of their good fortune. I'm glad you didn't push it and try to do a vlog about T-shirts or anything else without having your head in the right mood for the topic, Antonia

I cut my Bob pants 2 sizes down. The pattern size had me at 10 so I chose 8 but accidentally cut a 6…what a happy accident ! I am petite at 5’2” so I took an inch out of the rise. Perfect fit. Still nice and loose as we head into our Australian summer but not oversized and baggy like some makes I have seen. I also cut the pockets so they are captured in the waistband and not flapping loose inside. Three pairs made so far, two linen, one cotton slub. More on the drawing board 😊
@sequingirlieАй бұрын
Interesting I am the same height and needed to do a full bum adjustment and took nothing out of the rise. I think I will do the same to the pockets. I will share my styling for the autumn xx

Thoughts on your problem neckline. I would hand baste the facing in place about ½" (1.3cm) from the edge and then machine stitch between the edge and the basting thread. The key is to stitch from the shoulder seam down to the centre and stop, and do each side separately so that you're working the same direction with/against the grain of the fabric (a walking foot would help, or lower the pressure of your presser foot). Also keep in mind that keeping the selvage on the facing could be a problem because often it is a tighter weave than the fabric. First rule in quilting is to cut off the selvage before cutting your pieces. Hope it works out for you because that fabric is Absolutely Gorgeous!! Love all your projects! Good luck. ❤

Hmm really random suggestion here, but would it work to ditch the facing and attach a knit / ribbed neckband to the top instead? It’s hard to tell from here, but I am not a facing fan at all!!!! 🤦♀️
@sequingirlieАй бұрын
I don't love a facing either. X
@suekirk1448Ай бұрын
I would either unpick the shoulder seams and take them in slightly, not the facing. Maybe that say 2cms or so might give the facing a chance to lay flatter.
@sequingirlieАй бұрын
Ooh thank you.
@jillypops3463Ай бұрын
The Scout Tee neckline has a binding (it needs to be cut on the bias) and not a facing as such. So you need to clip the curve, under stitch and then turn it to the inside , turn the raw edge under and then topstitch. The stitching does show from the outside. ( I'm making one, too! ) 😁
@sequingirlieАй бұрын
It does indeed but I'm always a person not following the pattern lol 😆

Or place a piece of black knit (or other contrast) across the seam. Would look quite nice. For the woven top with the uncooperative facing, do you have a similar fabric to recut the facing? It’s inside and no one would see it. I would find a nice contrasting one. Could be really cute, or whip out the nifty bias machine and finish the edge.
@sequingirlieАй бұрын
I probably have a bit of binding I have made. Good suggestion xx
@AvrilBrown-ld6gmАй бұрын
Very much enjoyed the vlog and can't wait to see the finished trousers. As for the print fabric facing - have you tried hand tacking the facing down before machine stitching? Failing that do you have a walking foot for your machine? Sorry that's not much help but it must be very frustrating. xx
@sequingirlieАй бұрын
Thank you. Great advice.xx
@lovejohandmadeАй бұрын
Is the problem necked top stretch or woven? I wonder if clipping the facing would help it lie flat? Might be worth trying first, then you could always do the binding if that didn’t work.

Bondaweb NOOOO. It will go even more wrong. Maybe a stitch either on the machine or by hand. It may be the fabric. I’ve had a nightmare with a skirt I’ve sewn before twice and it’s defo a nightmare! I love the free range slacks but I’m wondering whether to try the wide one.

The neckband on the Scout is too wide and it absolutely positively has to be cut on the bias to curve around the neck opening.

Hi - have you got a walking foot for your machine. That would help when sewing jersey or other difficult fabrics. I note you have a janome Memory Craft machine. If it is a category C foot I have one I can send you. I bought it thinking it would fit mine but mine is a Category D, short shank machine. Anyway, if it will fit your machine, please let me know and I can send it to you.
