Just bought the Brother CS7000i. Had purchased a Singer off of Amazon and wasn’t happy with the machine at all. I’m a beginner. Haven’t used a sewing machine since Home Economics class in High School when I made a sweat shirt. Anyway, had to buy direct from Brother as Amazon was cleaned out, likely due to the surge in home-brew PPE making. Can’t say Im any different: I got one to make masks for my wife, who is a healthcare worker. Hoping to use the machine for happier things after this is all said and done. Your videos are top notch. Glad I stumbled across them. Many thanks! 👍🏽

The overcast foot is absolutely amazing. I was doing zigzag edges on my singer before which ended up in bunged edges. The overcast foot on my Brother stops the fabric bunching and gives you super clean finished edges. Love it.

Thank you! This is very helpful. I just got my first sewing machine cs6000i about 10 days ago. I could not get any mask from the local for weeks, so the initial main purpose is to make masks to fight this CorvID-19. I made some masks for myself, started to make it for the local community now, plan to work on quilting later. Thank you for covering tension and other settings.

Very helpful demonstration. Brother has great sewing machines. I honestly can't remember what mine is without checking, but it is a quilter with a little bigger throat space than yours, but not big enough now that I've been using it! Oh well. I can make do. I just used the buttonhole foot for the first time. Always scary for me but it was a craft project so if I made a mistake I could start over. It worked great. Thanks for the demo of the hemming foot. I've never understood how that worked. As for that zipper foot, I always find that wide back portion to be in the way when I get to the ends of the zipper. Maybe it's my technique, but it's not always easy to move the zipper pull out of the way. That's my trouble area.

Thank you for showing me some hints for my Brother presser feet. Tip: I was taught to always place a pin perpendicular to the end of the button hole when cutting it open, just in case the seam ripper slips. Did you know that the walking foot/quilters guide bar also fits into the black-lined hole in the presser foot shank so you can use the guide without the walking foot?

I'm so happy I found your channel, I had no clue what all the fonts were for , this helped me out so much . My brother machine came with a presser foot that is plastic, and it's for non-stick. I have used it, and it works fine. Just was wondering. ? I want to get a walking foot. Is it good for everyday sewing I sew tote bags and other small things. My problem is that the fabric Seems too bunch up. I have to keep on lifting lifting the foot and repositioning the material. It drives me crazy. Thank you amazing video.

Thanks so much for the overview!! I'd love to learn how to make plushies with minky, do you have any tips on how to use that material for a future video? I would to see a video about using different fabrics.
@SewingReport
@SewingReport 4 жыл бұрын
Good suggestion! Minky is a bit tricky to work with, especially if you are more of a beginner. You'll need to use a TON of pins, a walking foot, and be prepared for fuzz to be EVERYWHERE. I really mean it, EVERYWHERE. For those reasons, it's not my favorite fabric to sew with.

When I sew on a button with my machine I put a sewing machine needle in between the holes in the button so the stitches will cross over the needle and the button will not be so tight to the fabric and easier to push through the button hole.

Throat space is how much room you have between the needle and the arm of the sewing machine.

After playing around with my presser feet, I put the J zig zag foot back on, and I know I did it correctly, but it seems much more wiggly (up and down) than when I first got the machine earlier this week. It's possible I'm just imagining that and it's always been wiggly. Does the foot wiggle up/down when in place?

Great informative video. I love all of your videos. Out of curiosity, how many machines do you have? Are there certain machines that you use for specific types of projects?
@SewingReport
@SewingReport 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I have 5 sewing machines, a serger, and embroidery machine. The only machine I'll use in particular is the Janome 7700 for larger quilt projects because it has the biggest throat space. For super heavy duty stuff, I'd use the Sailrite although I haven't put much time on that one.

@frannicat
@frannicat 2 жыл бұрын
I do reverse with my walking foot but apparently we are not supposed to. LOL There is a reverse stitch or a locking stitch. The 1st goes back & you can go forward & the second just stays in the same spot up & down to lock the stitch. My Brothers has a dot to indicate locking stitch, whereas the image for reverse is a backward line.

Hi! I love your show and have a new Brother cs7000i too. :) I am a quilter with a problem; I cannot set the needle position to center as a default. I called Brother, and they said it was impossible since our machine has no stitch memory. But it does have needle position (up or down) default "memory." I wondered if you knew how to do this or had a workaround? Thank you!
