Everyone who enjoys sewing needs something different in a sewing machine. Please don't take this as a bashing of Bernina, I am just trying to explain why this machine didn't work for me.

I love my Juki TL2000QI. I just bought additional sewing feet to assist with bag making. I do use another sewing for zigzag stitching to thin out the edges when foam is involved. If the TL Juki sewing machine included one additional stitch...the zigzag, it would be even more exceptional. I do LOVE my JUKI!

I’m glad to see you are so much happier with your Juki. I researched machines forever before I decided to upgrade from a singer to a babylock lyric. My singer was a great learning machine, but I wanted something with more quilting features. So far I’ve been really happy with my lyric. I can’t wait to see more videos with you using your juki. I’ve heard they are great machines. I actually looked a juki for myself as well when researching a new machine.

I received my Juki 2010 2 weeks ago and used it exclusivrly ehile my B440QE was in the shop for repairs. The 2010 pieces beautifully, the stitch length knob is so easy to use and the reverse lever is wonderful. It handles up to TEX 70 thread and the machine punches through leather and nylon web (dog collars etc) like a dream. Not even consideting parting with the Bernina - the machines both have their places in the sewing room.

I love my Bernina 440QE. I’ve had it for over 10 years and it still sews great. Never had any problems. I quilt all my quilts on it using the stitch regulator if free motion quilting, perfect stitches using that. I’ve quilted large queen sized quilts. I do have my Bernina in a custom cabinet in my sewing room tho instead of using the attachable table. Makes quilting so much easier. I do use the zigzag and buttonhole stitch a lot. I do have a straight stitch only machine, a white featherweight that I also love for piecing when I’m in my tv room. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Juki tho. Good luck with your new purchase.

I saw you had got a new Juki and wanted to double check which one. This is one many people use on KZbin and I'm thinking of getting it. I wanted a machine with a larger throat as quilting on mine just puts me off. I searched and it said 9 inches and mine is 6. I wondered I'd that was enough. I am so happy to see that this is the one you purchased and make mention in your 'Pros' the larger throat. I don't need a machine with a bunch of stitches either. If I decide to zig zag or something I have my 2 other machines I can use. Thanks so much Fallon! You are always so helpful. ❤

When looking at machines and seeing the different sizes in throat space it doesn’t seem like 2-3 inches is much more but it truly makes a difference!

Love my juki! Shopping for the dx 4000 as I type this!! 😍 I did think I had a cutter problem, but was able to figure out what was wrong. I used to place my magnetic pin holder at the top right of the plate so I can throw needles in it as I sew, that magnet was causing some interference with the cutter and it would jam up. Googled it to death, took the machine apart multiple times, checked the timer, cleaned oiled...nothing worked. Seemed to work fine with the plate off but when I started sewing for a while that pin holder would make its way back to its spot and it would start jamming again. 🤦‍♀️. Strangely, I have a super strong magnet as my seam guide, which does not cause any issues at all. Lol.

Hey Fallon! I hope you're loving your new machine💕 I have never had the opportunity of using a Bernina before but I hear good things about them. I've actually been looking at this Juki about 2 years now but I'm stuck🙃 it's down to two machines the Juki or the Brother PQ1500🤔 I can't decide I really like the Juki and the thread cutting capability in the pedal oh my goodness am I stuck on that feature😊 As always thank you for sharing

Thanks for this video! I recently got the Babylock Accomplish, which is essentially the same machine as the Juki you got. So far I really like it - I haven't tried quilting on it yet, but I know that I will be happy to have that extra throat space and speed, as well as nice even stitches. I haven't had any issues with the thread cutter, and that was one of the key features I wanted in a new machine. My first machine was just a cheap Brother machine, which I can still use for zigzag and decorative stitches.

I have a Juki TL machine and absolutely love it! I originally had a $100 Brother from Walmart that I made many quilts on so it did a great job, but the Juki is no comparison. Thought about buying a Bernina, but my aunt has 4 Berninas (yes, 4!) and at least one of them is always being serviced. Not meaning to bash Bernina in any way, just sharing what my aunt’s experience was.

Thanks for the informative comparison! I had no idea the Bernina was at such a high price point, that's a lot to invest in anything, and if you don't absolutely love it, you're so right to change. I'm also so happy that you love your Juki TL2010Q! I love mine too! I still haven't gotten the hang of the automatic needle threader, but no biggie, I especially love the auto thread cutter, and it spoils us quickly, right?! Thanks for a fun look at both machines!

I love it so much! Thank you so much for letting me know your thoughts on yours. It really helped me have confidence in my purchase! I got the automatic threader to work a few times, but not consistently yet! I agree... the price is so high on the Bernina. I think that I would have been ok with the things that didnt work for me if I used all the extra stitches. But since I pretty much just straight stitch it just doesn't make sense to keep it.

@@sewbeitquilts You're welcome, and yes, I don't use the decorative stitches either. And I think the perfect stitches the Juki gives is worth giving the fancy ones up. I can use my Brother for those if needed, but haven't yet. Don't you just love quilting on your Juki? It sews so beautifully.♥️

I had a Bernina. 475 qe that I loved. I also had the juki. I gave them to my granddaughter because she is in fashion design. I still have 2 machines that are the 570 qee and the 790 plus i have been sewing since the ‘70s. I use and maintain them well. I have never had an issue with Berninas. Did you follow the instructions on how to clean your thread cutter on your Bernina? Did you oil your Bernina? They are very thirsty machines. Your Juki needs cleaning and oiling also. They are both excellent machines if you treat them well.

Hey Fallon!!! Thank you for sharing your comparisons. I had 2 Janomes, loved them. Sold them and purchased a Bernina 570qe. What I’ve learned is that these machines have huge and very long learning curves on them. The hardest thing for me to learn was how crazy sensitive the presser foot pressure is for blocks meeting up. I’ve had my machine since August and still learning to adjust. Do I regret the purchase, no. Just wish the machine that boast its a quilters edition would actually let me piece some blocks together without going crazy.🤷🏾‍♀️ Before I purchased the Bernina, I was looking at the Juki QVP150. Who knows, I might still get it in the future and sell my Bernina. I agree the bobbins are amazing on the Bernina…I also learned the best feet to use for my binding. So I’m just holding until I’m ready to get my Juki. - Stephanie

Sorry to nose in... but I had the same issue with my Bernina 570 qe. Feed dogs and presser foot REALLY struggled over simple butted seems. Watched tons of Bernina videos and no results. I had to sell my machine. Could not piece quickly or smoothly. I gave it an hones 3+ years, but it stressed me to the point of losing interest to sew/quilt. Good luck with yours

Thank you so much for this machine Review with the Juki 2010Q vs Bernina. I bought my Bernina a few years ago and have not been happy with it. I have taken it in for service multiple times. Many issues with it not sewing properly. I've been sick about the money I spent to the point it has stressed me out and lost my interest to sew. Started researching the Juki which was the one my gut told me to buy early on...anyway not meaning to bash Bernina either. I have friends who love theirs. I just think there were some lemons in the bunch. I got one.😥Your quilting issues with the BSR was NOT you or just the table. I had the 570 with a bigger throat space, table etc. My feed dogs as well did not feed evenly. Stitches were terrible. The service guys continually told me it was me. I have been sewing for 30 years. No other issues with my other machines. was not happy with it being Computerized. (Bernina did not help me). I am so excited to learn about the semi-industrial Juki. For what I do, that is all I really needed. A Simple strait stitch machine. It seems very similar to the old Singer 301 with its interlocking stitch. Thanks for confirming my decision. PS would be curious how you sold your Bernina. 🙂

I have the brother pq1500sl, which is similar to the juki. It's a great machine and definitely a workhorse. I bought a babylock brilliant because I wanted a zigzag and blanket stitches for some applique. I definitely noticed the slowness right off the bat! If I applique more I would definitely keep the Bernina since it has a lot more stitch options than my old Brother machine. If I stitch slow on the Bernina the stitches turn out much better. When I appliqué, I go slow. I just don't enjoy appliqué. So, the few times I need to I can use my old Brother machine.

I have a Juki TL98Q...I bought it without ever sewing on one... there was no dealers anywhere near me. At that time there was a yahoo group for Jukis...I know i read at least a thousand posts..and probably more about the Jukis. Only one time in all those posts was there actually a problem with the machine. There was a guy on there that walked another lady through timing her machine after she hit something with her needle. These machines are a game changer. I have quilted one quilt that was 92 inches square. I do not dread quilting on this machine at all.

Hi, I'm a Janome sad user and I really was excited to buy the Bernina 480, but after your review; I just have a doubt, when you do FMQ you do it with the Bernina BSR foot or with the regular foot for FMQ? because the stitch regulator I hear fixes that uneven stitch issues... and that model it's compatible with the BSR. Also, I have doubts about the Juki. First, the noise that she made ¿how do you fix that? and second, what do you replace the zig zag?

Guys do you think juki TL is good for dressmaking? Like wedding dresses etc. Majority of reviewer i found they use it for as quilting mainly. I dont do quilt much, i wanted a machine that can do both thicker to super thin fabric like tulle etc. I like the TL because i also still move around every few years. The semi-industrial doesnt need like all that bulky table and dinamo thats a plus point for me despite that its still powerful compares to computerized portable machines

I’ve had really good luck with Pfaff machines. I have a Pfaff creative 2144, Tiptronic 2040 and a Baby Lock Ellisimo Gold for machine embroidery. My 2144 has a auto thread cutter and it has never worked right since I bought the machine in 2006. It always cuts the bobbin thread to short and when you start sewing it won’t pick up the bobbin thread. And it’s frustrating when your chain piecing. But other than that I really like the machine and have no plans on trading it in. I’ll sew on it until it dies and I’ll cry when that day comes.

I have to say I'm really surprised that you found the stitches bad on the Bernina and wonder if that's a problem with that particular machine. I have several Berninas (770qe, 440qe and an old one from my mother) and a Janome HD9. I've sewed on lots of different brands of machines and I've always found the stitch quality of the Bernina to be superior. I know you mentioned that you didn't like the feet on the Bernina being only from the dealer (I don't like that either) but you didn't mention how incredibly easy it is to change the feet and how you don't need screwdrivers. I'm not trying to convince anyone that they should buy a Bernina. I really believe that machine preferences are individual and it's really important to get something that works best for you, so I applaud you finding a machine that makes you happy.
@sewbeitquilts
@sewbeitquilts 2 жыл бұрын
I have thought it is likely the model I purchased because I watch a lot of people sew on the 770 and they don't seem to have the same problems I have. It is funny Teresa, I didnt even think about how easy it is to switch out the feet on this review. I have an industrial juki for bagmaking and I need a screwdriver for that one too and for some reason didnt even think about it! I agree, preferences are so individual. The Bernina I have sews really well if I keep it slow (aside from free motion), so I think I would be much happier with that machine if I enjoyed appliqué. Then I would use the fancy stitches and the purchase would make more sense for me.

I'm sure you're going to be happy with your new Juki. FYI: Purchasing generic Juki bobbins seem to be a hit and miss. I've seen an assortment of different reviews regarding the generic bobbins. I didn't want to take that chance when I purchased my Juki TL 2000QVP Mini in 2019. I figured I paid that amount for a machine, purchasing $8.00/pkg of 5 bobbins (I purchased 5 packages) was worth it and not deal with any hassles of generic bobbins. So with the bobbins that came with the machine, I have 30 bobbins. I keep 12 wound bobbins of my two most used colors of threads. I also purchased the Juki free motion table which is even larger than the table that came with the machine and it's clear. The table allows you to position your machine just as the head of a long arm machine with the head of the machine pointing towards you. It gives you even more room to Maneuver your quilt. I also purchased a oil pen, which is more convenient oiling those little holes. The tip is thin like a needle and the oil comes out in small drops. I still love my Juki. Happy quilting.

I have both of these machines, and I love them both; however, I use them differently. The Juki gets used for chain piecing and FMQ with my Grace Cutie for large items and for bag making and home dec because it’s a beast! The Bernina gets used for garment sewing, quilting with the quilt stitches, and with smaller FMQ. I have a BSR that goes with it also. Both machines stitch perfectly for me. If your Bernina doesn’t have good stitches, there’s something wrong with it. That’s not normal. (I have several Berninas now and have owned several in the past. All of them stitch perfectly.) It sounds like you have a defective machine, which is frustrating given the price.

I also have a number of machines. I must say that I have never had a Bernina. I would love to have a 770. It is my dream machine I do have a Brother 1500 that is very similar. That machine and I are not friends. It pieces ok but just does not work for me for quilting. I also have some older Pfaffs (1214,1222, 6122, and 7570). They are work horses and will sew through anything (especially the 1222) and will never get rid of them. I would never get the Juki because I would not want to limit my creativity and it would be too much like the Brother. To solve my throat space problem I got the Janome 8200 QCP SE and love it. Love the 11 1/2 inch throat. Love all the accessories and the stitches. I am not a fan of raw edge appliqué. I am having a ball with it and highly recommend it.

I love my berninas - I have 4 - a vintage 830 record, 180, 200 and 765se. I also have the same juki as you and several other machines too. I guess I'm a collector. I got 3 new machines after my husband passed in Dec 2017 but was grieving and unmotivated as he was my biggest fan, then c-vid happened and I've had 3 instances of "children" rebounding and have one on his second rebound currently. What I think is this, if you think you would want to do any dressmaking or home dec that would require any of the stitches you should keep it. But if a straight stitch is all you want then the juki should suffice quite nicely! Also, Bernette is a division of Bernina and has much lower pricing on most of their models and Eversewn is a "relative" of Bernina and I have their Sparrow 30 (pale pink) and it is just a few hundred. It is a great machine and I've really enjoyed it. I do all sorts of sewing (when the mojo is working) and they all have their uses. I recently got a new Bernette serger that I've not been able to test drive but it has some great features. It's my 3rd serger - but again they each have something different about them.

I have the Juki Haruka and the Bernina 475QE. I would not get rid of the Bernina because of the different stitches it offers. The Juki is only a straight stitch and if you make bags and other crafty projects you may need the zig zag.

I really have a feeling it might be this model. I have found so many complaints about the thread cutter jamming the machine.

I am always surprised at the price of Bernina machines. They are personally not for me. Mostly because of that price. Just looking at the photo of the machines I wouldn't guess they would be the price that they would be. But I haven't personally tried one before to fully give comments on how the machines handle and I am sure there are many differences between various Bernina machines. I am mostly a bag maker and have a Juki 2000Qi and love the machine. I still have a cheaper Singer when I need a zig zag stitch when I need it.

The Bernina 770 is the one I see a few other quilters use without the same issues I seem to have. That price tag is even crazier. I think almost double the one I have. For me, the Juki will work at a much better price and I can use a Walmart brother for the rare time I need another stitch. I love bagmaking! I am obsessed with a lot of Lavender and Twine patterns right now.

I bought a Bernina 750 Quilters Edition @ 2015 which I love, so I bought the 480 last year for my vacations-so interested to hear about your free motion problems! I have had them too and didn’t know it was “a thing”! I have a Juki long arm which I felt good about getting because I know they are made to be industrial. I still have a lot to learn on that one though!
