Sewing Machine Review: Singer Starlet 6680 - So What If I Sew

Welcome back to So What If I Sew, I’m Jess and my channel is all about sewing, dressmaking and all things stitch related. This week you join me for a long anticipated video, that’s right, I’m finally introducing you to my new machine. The Singer Starlet 6680. This machine means a lot to me, it was my first big ticket purchase for myself and its already proved itself to be equal to anything I can throw at it. In this video I’ve talked through some of the main functionality and identified my top 5 favourite aspects of this machine. Really enjoyed this video! Use to sew when younger, but at 65 going to try again. I am struggling with proper threading and the Bobbin and how to put it back properly , I am excited to really learn this machine so I too can get back to sewing projects in mind. Thanks again, you are such a delight!

I don’t have this exact machine but I have Confidence Stylist( Singer 7467S ) and I love the same features!!! My other machine is a Singer 1120, which is mechanical, so I feel my new machine is a much needed upgrade. My fave feature is the smoothness of the foot pedal and the varying sewing speeds I can do with it.

Interesting clip. My daughter and I are waiting for the next episodes showing what the other accessories included with the machine are for. We are particularly interested in the automatic needle threading function, which is described in a very unclear manner in the user manual (the drawings do not indicate what we should use to thread the needle). A small note: When you describe the function of winding the thread onto the lower bobbin, you should have shown how to guide the thread through the guides and protect the bobbin against winding too much thread. We have already mastered it with the help of the instructions, but maybe others would find it useful to show it in a video?

aw thank you! Its a wonderful machine and I can't recommend it enough! Yes it should do, although I don't have one myself to test, it should definitely accommodate a Singer one.

Haha I know what you mean about the John Lewis machine's speed - but I did just gun it basically always, foot to the floor... I do the same on my new one even though it can do any speed

Hello, thank you for the review. I bought this machine after watching your video but haven't used it yet. I've never sewn in my life. I need to make a rolled hem but I don't think the foot for this purpose is included with the machine. Moreover, there are several other things that I don't have any idea what are they for. I own this machine but to be honest there are two things which I find inferior to other models. The feed dogs don't drop (which isn't great if you want to do freehand embroidery), you can turn the stitch length to zero or try the plastic cover (which can come off). It doesn't have a drop in bobbin, it is front loading, which can be fiddly. I agree with what you say about it being a good machine for making clothing, household items etc but not really a good choice if you want to do quilt making.

Hi, thanks for this video. I also have this machine, and I struggle so much with it 😢😢. As soon as I have at least 4 layers of fabric, it starts to vibrate, the needle is stuck and it stops.. 😭 I changed the tension, the needle.. still got the problem. Do you have any tips for me pls ?

I am new to sewing. I purchased a Juki straight stitch, and need a machine that can zig zag on heavy material. I made a sailboat cover with the Juki but now would like to repair my Bimini. In your opinion, is this a machine that can do heavy canvass work?

I just got this machine and I've never used a sewing machine before, mine keeps coming up with "C2" everytime I press down on the pedal. Do you know what to do to sort this out? :)

I would check the connection between your pedal and your machine? The only other thing I would think is, is your button lever down by accident? There is a list in the back of the manual of the ‘C’ errors so hopefully that helps as well 😊

I have had this machine for a year and all of a sudden it's seizing up and giving me either C4 / E6 errors. Can't find. my manual. Can you help??

C4 is normally the buttonhole foot pin being down

Bit late to the party but I just bought this machine (75% due to your review, 25% because it was on sale at the Singer Outlet). I'm noticing 3 things that trouble me that perhaps you could assist with? -The detachable section at the front does not sit perfectly flat with the rest of the machine (3mm raised on the outer left edge). Was yours, or is mine faulty? -It makes a whirling/whistling faint noise when turned on but not sewing. Does yours? It's loud enough for me to be noticing and my old machine did not do this. -Im really struggling to pull the project away from the machine after sewing, the bobbin thread doesn't want to pull out easily like the needle after a row of stitches. Any tips to remedy this as the main issue? Thankyou in advance, hopefully you may know some of the above having had yours for a while. 💚

Hi! Thanks for watching the review firstly but I am sorry to hear you are having issues with yours! - So the detachable front section definitely should sit flat, mine does - i think yours may be faulty? - I very occasionally get a noise after the machine has been on for 6 hours+ and I figured out it was the light. Potentially your light may need to be changed? - I've had no problems with my bobbin release so far but I would suggest checking the tension on the bobbin casing incase it has loosened or is overly tight. I would also recommend unscrewing the footplate incase there is dust or loose threads jamming the bobbin. It sounds like the thread isn't freely flowing out of the bobbin casing so I reckon casing tension might be the issue? I hope it gets sorted soon as it really is a wonderful machine when its working! xxx

Can someone help me? I bought this machine today and everything works fine except when I start using it it makes a high pitched continous noise that doesn’t stop when I stop sewing. It resets when I turn the machine off and on again. Sometimes when I switch stitching it changes frequencies. Should I be concerned? Is this normal? It’s not loud but it’s annoying

for the j110 just pull the hand dial outwards before winding the bobbing and the needle won't move either!

yes you can stitch denim with this machine but you will need to use a denim needle

Hi I probably wouldn't recommend this machine for complete beginners but if you're feeling adventurous then go for it! Unfortunately I don't sew swimwear but there are plenty of other fab sewists doing youtube videos on swimwear! x

Ciao peccato che non parli in italiano, questa macchina l'ho già comprata a mi arriva domani , speriamo che mi troverò bene e che non abbia nessun difetto. Mi piacerebbe che faresti delle dimostrazione con i punti di ricamo ad esempio il punto a giorno , il punto quadro e un po' alla volta dove li applichi se possibile in italiano . Grazie mille
