I really enjoy the video. I did an 1860 pre civil war skirt and pocket. I also had my side seam open instead of cutting the skirt fabric which made a lot of sense to me. I am in the Regency Society , Victorian and Edwardian Era but not Colonial Era. The Colonial Era clothing is very complicated for my 14 months of learning how to sew. The Regency Era, pre civil war Victorian and late Victorian and Edwardian Era I can sew the garments for myself. Thanks for sharing your 1830's dress also. How lovely it is to see a very old dress in great condition.

Love your videos! I haven't any plans to make anything from the 1930s but definitely one day I would like to try and attempt this era!

Pockets in a skirt was always exciting to me. When worked at my local fort I wore a rented dress & didn't know it had pockets until near the end of the working sesson. Regardless it made me happy

I'll have to get finished on my current WIP (fixing my 1860's skirt hem), these videos are really helping me get in gear for my own 1830's dress. Thank you so much for posting!! (Also LOVE Lauren's hair!)

I love that green plaid! Where did you get it? I think it would also look beautiful as a 1950s New Look dress.

Is there any chance you can do more details on the bodice closures? I'm struggling with that on my 1830 dress.

Yes! Don't worry, we're currently working on that episode! :)

I just realized that I have some taffeta (quite likely not silk...testing needed), left over from a theater costume project, that would be perfect for this style. I will just have to come up with a pattern that will work with my former competitive swimmer shoulders!

perfect! yes, it doesn't have to be silk - faux works too. The difference is that faux silk is "springier" than real silk.

I keep hearing you mentioning The Work Women's Guide, that is one I don't have yet. Do you have a link for that book? Thanks so much!

it’s on google books, publicly available scanned (for free), but you can also buy it on amazon. First published in 1838.

Thank you for your great videos! I’ll finally be able to make my dream 1830s dress. 3.5 meters of silk taffeta equals about how much fabric length if I make it from very light weight cotton, in your opinion? I’m planning on a silk gown, too, but rather make the first mistakes on a cheaper cotton fabric 😉

Awesome! If you want the really big sleeves, know that they take about a yard each. Smaller-puffed sleeves will take less, but you may still be a bit short on fabric for the skirt. Measure, measure, measure!
@findelka18103 жыл бұрын
thanks a lot, great to know! if you had all the liberty for the skirt, how many meters/yards would you use from a light weight cotton (just for the skirt)?
