I have quilted a few small quilts on my embroidery machine using a 6 x 10 hoop. One thing I did after I watched someone else on You Tube (sorry, can't remember who it was now) was NOT to remove the base hoop but only the top hoop of a magnetic hoop. (Magnetic is the way to go on these). For edge to edge pattern, after the last pattern finished, I pressed the +1 to put the needle in the next starting position, then moved my piece so that the needle hovered over the last stitch so they would match up. Then I positioned my piece using horizontal lines I drew with a Frixion pen (or using a seam line) I positioned my fabric in the right spot and pulled the top hoop down over that and played with placement until it was just right. Repeat all the way across. It makes things really fast when you don't have to take everything off the frame and also negates the necessity of using a paper piece to know where you are in the pattern. I hope that makes sense, and I will try to find the original video.

Wendy, this is excellent advice! I started also with a 6x10 hoop and did not enjoy removing and repositioning my hoop after every stitch out - sometimes having to stop every two minutes! My Janome dealer told me about what you have described and it opened an entire new world of quilting for me. Even though my Janome Continental M17 has the largest hoop currently available (last I heard), I purchased all three of the Dime magnetic hoops that are compatible with my machine and there was no stopping me! I don’t even need the long arm service now because using your method, and enjoying the enormous throat on the CM17, I easily quilt my king size quilts. This would have been almost impossible without the method you described. It is definitely a game changer and so simple that after I got the hang of it, I realized I didn’t even need the templates. Nor do I mark my lines because, just as you suggested, using the quilt’s seams will give you a perfectly placed stitch out every time! I hope anybody else who had the fear I did will bite the bullet and try what you have suggested. That #1 stitch is our friend! Thank you so much.

You went from hoop your quilt to stitch your design. How did you get the design to your machine? I do not have a laptop. I only have an iPad or iPhone. How do I get the design to my Bernina 570 B machine?

I just bought the largest Snap Hoop Monster for my BERNINA. It’s about the same size as my jumbo hoop. I want to use end to end designs to fit my hoop so l don’t have to move it as often. If I print on peel and stick paper will the design split to fit and I just use two papers?

The rulers should be placed within the design area showing the zero to be the center of the design area, not the center of the hoop. Hoops have a specific design area and there will be a margin at the top and the bottom, usually more at the top that the bottom. Mark the hoop center for reference, but the design area is more important. I have watched many of these instructions and I haven't notice one that tells you this. However there are some good pointers in this tutorial.
