I think I would put it right in the wash with the color catchers. Making two is probably the best plan of all. Love the idea of a little matching jacket for Taylor.

Great vlog as always short of ringing the company you bought the fabric from for advice about prewash I would put it in the machine with colour catcher good luck ❤❤

Oh great, I voted for the cow pattern! 🤗 Regarding the prewash, I would soak it first, it only needs 5 min or so. Then I would use a program like no iron shirt program and if possible choose high water level. I discovered recently that the shirt program (at least in my machine) uses heat at the end, after the spinning, and sort of lightly tumbles the laundry to get the creases out. It is perfect for prewashing fabric. Though it doesn’t get rid of wash lines if that happens. If you don’t have a shirt program I would use high water level and a low spin.

Definitely use color catcher sheets. I like the idea of a presoak as that much fabric may take a while to wet through evenly in the wash.

If you've got enough you could wash a small piece to check for colour fastness... I know it's hardly important but I like it that you say A-zero rather than A-oh!

I voted faces but am equally happy with cow print. It will be awesome! It’s a really challenging project, Tamlyn but I know you’ll make a fab jacket. Good luck 🤞🏻 ❤

Hi Tamlyn, you could pre soak in cool water with added salt or brine solution. Keep an eye on it then wash with colour catchers on gentle and low speed spin. Make sure you remove it straight away and give it a good shake/stretch. Good luck, Angela

Yay for the cow print! Question please - when measuring yourself for jackets, should you measure yourself in just your underwear as you would for a blouse or dress etc. or would you wear a sweatshirt and jeans or whatever you intend wearing underneath it? Not sure if advice is given in the packet for this. Thanks Tamlyn. Very much looking forward to your progress. Liz x

Yay cow fabric! I’ve never had any problems when washing denim but I would have thought a slow short spin would minimise any creases but also minimal/no fabric conditioner as with certain coloured denims this would accentuate any lines. Also remove from machine asap and hang to dry. 💙🧶🌈🍓

I usually put a tennis ball in the washer with the fabric , it stops it creasing x

Hi thanks a lot for your videos! Have in my sewing queue the Rhett Jacket (chore jacket) by Seamwork but not sure will get to it in Jan although will try as would be fun to sew along with you. The fabric I have means the jacket will need to be lined adding a complication.... Best of luck!
@stellabaker670918 күн бұрын
Cow print - yes!! What about laying out your pattern pieces and, allowing a wee bit extra, cut the length you need and wash with a couple of colour-catchers. That way, the fabric may be less bulky in the machine so hopefully avoiding crease marks due to squished fabric. I look forward to watching your progress. X

ooh I never thought of the colours running 😬 definitely gotta do a swatch test first before ya put the whole lot in the machine cause it would be awful if ya ruined it 😞 & I’m gonna make the same style as u but I have to buy the pattern then get it printed then decide on fabric etc so I don’t think I’ll be ready in time to sew along with ya 😢 but I’m gonna save ur videos so I can sew along later when I’ve got everything ready 😁 & thank u so much can’t wait for ya to get started 👍🏻 xxx

That was fun - and I did a drumroll 😂 Glad to hear you're going to make matchy matchy outfits for you & Taylor with the smiley faces. If you have enough fabric, you could do a wee 'trial run' first and then brave pants on and chuck it in the machine with a few colour catchers 🤞- was waiting for Sam's bloopers at the end 😂😂

I have the same denim in brown that I got in a fg gifting box for Christmas. I’ve actually just put mine in the wash on a 30 degree and a colour catcher. So I’ll let you know how it turns out!!

Regarding advice about the rewashing, have you got access to a large washing machine such as at a laundromat? I think the larger-sized washing machine gives more room and water to wash heavier fabrics.
@christycampbell187418 күн бұрын
So fun! What's the weight of the cow denim? I think that might help me decide whether to use bias binding or just to serge? Prewashing is a tricky one. Ive not had trouble getting crease lines when I prewash denim. Maybe try putting the washer on deep water wash? Have a great weekend!❤

Hi Tamlin, I appreciate your hesitation to put the whole fabric in in one fell swoop. How about cutting a couple of swatches/ sample pieces and doing both methods one sample for each and decide based on the results 😊

Here in New Zealand we call wine and soda water a Spritzer. I have visited some Marlborough Vine yards. No idea about washing the denim. But will be interested in hearing what others say. Pink bias binding?

Love the cow print denim! I think Hayley from Always in the Craft Room had an issue with denim fabric leaving permanent crease marks, not sure she had a good solution to avoid it. Instead she was looking for a work around to use the fabric she already had with the creases.
