3년만에 처음으로 물밖으로 나온 세월호 인양 과정
Our top story; a massive operation to raise the sunken Sewol-ho.
The ferry sank in 2014, and was recorded as one of the worst maritime disasters in Korea's history, taking over 3-hundred lives, mostly high school students.
Shin Se-min starts us off with details on the procedure
It's the first time the Sewol-ho Ferry has been seen above the surface of the sea since it sunk in the waters around Jindo Island almost three years ago.
The 145-meter long, over 68-hundred ton ferry emerged from the dark seawater with its surface rusty and scratched.
Given the size of the vessel it's a monumental task, and at the same time,... an expensive one too.
The Korean government agreed two years ago to a deal worth some 76 billion U.S. dollars with a consortium led by China's state-run company Shanghai Salvage to raise the ferry.
And the operation conducted both by Korea's oceans ministry and Shanghai Salvage is being carried out in a careful manner, as there are still nine victims missing and their bodies could still be inside the vessel.
The reason why the engineers are taking the vessel out of the water *without cutting it into pieces, and have also cast a net around the ferry, is to help recover the bodies, believed to still be trapped inside.
The marathon operation of lifting the sunken ferry above the water began with raising the ship 13 meters out of the water and placing the ferry onto a semi-submersible ship for transport.
The sunken ferry will now be transported to Mokpo New Port, just 87 kilometers away from the disaster site.
The transport is expected to take at least 8-days, depending on weather conditions.
If all goes as planned, the recovered ship will be placed at Mokpo port and searched for the missing nine bodies as well as answers to what exactly caused this manmade disaster.
"Three years of planning the recovery operation come down to 12 or 13 days of execution. And after that... it'll be time to start recovering the truth.
Shin Se-min, Arirang News, Jindo.
A briefing session by Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries is being held. We'll have more from that event on our later newscast.

Disagree completely, that money should be put into prevention of future accidents, that way these deaths can prevent further suffering. This is just a very expressive theater to try and hide the massive incompetence of the previous SK president. After hearing her response during situation there is no doubt she is personally responsible for many of these deaths. It's making me angry thinking about it, God knows how the relatives feel about her.

China was free to help initiially but was rejected by South Korea government three years ago. Then Korea government later open the public bidding and this offer is taken by one Shanghai company. It's sad that they were ready all the time to start get the ship out of water. But they're not allowed to do so until the president of Korea is going to change. Cried for those students and hate all bad politicians.

The shock, the terror, the fear going through them 304 souls as they started to drown in the ship. Screaming out for help. In videos taken from phones they were told to stay where they were, and many students and teachers gathered in rooms. You can hear people screaming ‘I don’5 want to die’ before they knew it was sinking. This is horrifying, that there was 475 people on board, and 304 of them passed because of some of the staff’s actions. It’s just horrifying to think about.

The response of the captain (telling the passengers to not move and to stay still) and the coastal guards in their rescue efforts (or the lack thereof) is so very bizarre. The ship took 2 hours to submerge fully. All those 304 passengers and crew could have been easily saved as most were wearing safety jackets and there were American and Japanese ships nearby ready to help with the rescue. .

By the time this video posted, there are still 9 bodies not found. Now, the ship have been lifted and the bodies (reminings) missing have been found. @@RoseyDreamsss bodies cant last long in the bottom of sea. There are many factors that can led to the dissapearence of bodies. Some of them is eaten by sea cretures or vanished by under water pressure (and of course its also depends on the deepness of the water itself). By the time the ship lifted, authorities has swept all the corner of the ship to seek for reminings. There are indeed 9 DNA found. The 9 missing body is gone because its been too long (years) in the water anyway and the case now closed.

@itsmrlonewolf
@itsmrlonewolf 5 жыл бұрын
PATSFAN420 well apparently so are you, the reporter incorrectly said that it will cost $76 BILLION, the actual cost was apparently more like $90 MILLION (guessing she just meant million) with some people saying it went as high as $200 million! Which is a much more realistic figure! I thought the same thing when she said $76 billion! That’s more than most countries GDP’s and you could build all 4 ships involved many times over for $76 billion so it’s a fair question to ask! At the cost she quoted you could afford to do this salvage job 500-1000 times so that’s why it sounds so insane because it’s wrong! It’s still expensive to do this but nothing like what she said
