Hey y'all and welcome to Sewspire! My name is Andrea and this is my sewing instruction and inspiration channel. If you are just joining us --- welcome! I hope you enjoy the content and will consider subscribing to the channel. If you are a returning visitor, I thank you for your continued interest in my designs and methodology! It is my pleasure to create for this community and I am so happy to be here with you today.
In this video we are playing with piping to create a sloped side pocket panel that is perfect for exterior pockets and can be used with the T Method of construction which allows for an independent side panel as opposed to the Notched or Fat Corner Method which as a side seam.
We are getting close to completing the panels for this particular bag and I am excited to see it come together! Please let me know in the comments what you think of my piping method and if you will be incorporating this pocket recipe into a future design.
Until we meet again, the creative genius in me will be celebrating the creative genius in you!
🙏 Andrea

That's a great idea Beverley and I am happy you shared the concept of noting taking whilst waiting for the project to come together. Brilliant!

Thanks for this one Andrea. Quilts for our needy people who have lost their homes and lively hood because of the bushfires is such a nice thing for you Americans to do. We here have been busy sewing too. I have been busy making pouches for the baby marsupials who have survived the bushfires but lost their mothers and have to be raised by wildlife carers now. I have decided to change tact on my idea of a design book. Instead I am going to buy a ring binder, cover it with the Sewspire book cover and then make mini examples of the recipes and place them in plastic sheathes with the instructions and make an index at the front. Looking forward to next week. Your Aussie friend Sue.

Aw, Sue, that is so kind of you to sew for the baby marsupials. I am grateful Kathy was able to facilitate this opportunity for us to help out and hope the quilts and bags are quick to find those in need. I love your vision for the design book. Please keep us apprised of your progress.

Hi Andrea, after watching you making and adding piping on the tote pocket, I am now gonna make my own piping, it's much better than the store-bought ones. "Thank You, God Bless!

I'm going to try and join in making the bags for Australia. I still have fabric left over from making pouches for the animals. When I saw a video of a koala hurt and crying, it hit me so hard that I cried. Hopefully, I'll be able to join in making a bag for myself as well. Right now I'm working on a laptop bag for my 83 year old mother that likes to visit her sister in another state. She can't leave her laptop behind. LOL. Thank you. 😊

Thank you Karen for your kindness towards our beautiful animals. I too cried when I saw the crying koala. I'm teary just thinking about it now. We have lost so many animals. Some species we may never see again. It's devastating.

@@suestutzle2779 I've heard that the koalas may never recover. That is so very sad. I'll do whatever is possible for me to help. Thankfully there hasn't been more human life losses. I also have a weakness for the beautiful flying foxes. I watch Megabattie, Baby Bats and Buddies of Australia, and Batzilla everytime they put out a new video. I've said if I ever get a chance to come to Australia, I'll get the rabies vaccine before hand just to be able to handle and maybe help with bats. I know y'all don't have rabies there, but the bats can carry something that is similar to rabies. I hope all the fires are soon extinguished and you haven't been directly affected. If I can, I would love to make a small quilt for one of the children who lost everything. Like the animals, they are so innocent. 💗

@@karenpresley7101 You have a kind heart Karen. Actually it's not the koalas that are in danger of going extinct (although it will take many, many years for the numbers to pick up and maybe never again in some areas) but other species of marsupials we may never see again. Perhaps types of sugar gliders etc. I don't know which marsupials in particular. Yes, I know of the disease bats carry, it's called Lissie (probably not the correct spelling) virus. They have been catered for as well with things that are sewn called bat wraps. They look so cute clinging to the pillow part and wrapped around with the blanket bit. A friend made a few of those. I've heard that an area the size of England has been burnt. The problem is too that when the orphans grow and ready to be released that the area they came from has no food and nothing for them. Other animals who have survived the fires (like some wombats. Wombats live in borrows and when the fires swept over them some were underground) when they came out there was nothing left for them so they will have to be found and taken somewhere where there is food for them.) It's a big job. Come on over, if ever you get the chance and do your bit. It would be greatly appreciated. This will go on for years.

Could you show how to make a side pocket that has enough girth to hold a water bottle?
