Yes, the dresses in Anastasia are iconic! Her dream sequence ball gown, her coronation gown, her cute dress on the boat (which may now be considered some type of cottage core), her 1920's flapper outfits in Paris, etc etc. The list goes on and on. All truly so integral to selling the whimsical and magical feeling of the story.

I am *SO* thrilled to watch this video!! My high school self feels the same way about this movie! My first OC- RPG character was named Annya because I loved Anastasia so much. The music is so iconic and you are so right about the chemistry and rom-com nature of the film. This gown was so influential on how I wanted to look for the first prom I ever attended (I went to 3 proms, the first as a sophomore) and I begged my mom to see a version for me. The version my Mom sewed for me was a strapless deep midnight blue satin a-line ball gown style, with a shimmery scarf accessories (I wore long gloves for a little while but they didn’t last long at prom), so wasn’t super true to the movie, but all I remember is how special and beautiful and perfect I felt, and that I was my own version of Anya. I lost my mother in February of 2016, and I am so grateful to have these memories of her and the dream dress she sewed for me. 💜

This just satisfied so, so, so many girlish dreams of mine to see this gown as a real dress! It's definitely on my bucket list to someday make the dress, too. If I ever do, seeing your plight with the glitter tulle, I think I would make one change and that is to use hot-fix crystals all over solid midnight blue tulle drape. I plan on making this dress again since I have made it when I was starting out in cosplay and I made the front of the skirt too short and made of spandex which was a good option back then but I wish I made it out of velvet after watching the animated movie again. I might use my corset bodice pattern that cups my chest but I could extend it to the floor and even it out so it just kisses the floor but with a deep hem in case I wore shorter heels or taller shoes. You have really made my day today since I always look forward to your projects since they are so detailed and I'm always amazed at the final result which makes me smile.

Absolutely gorgeous job! I always thought that main part was velvet too, but lord, touching velvet makes me hurt inside, I dunno what that's about. But honestly you took my breath away at the end, so I was doing a bit of slack-jawed awe myself. This movie captivated me too, and it's partially responsible for me being a Don Bluth junkie (turns out I had always been one, but by the time I saw this, I started paying attention to the credits.) My dad passed away when I was 8 and then I saw this during a substitute teacher day in homeroom in the 7th grade and no one knew why the hell I was bawling my eyes out from that dance scene with the ghosts at the beginning. Sigh. Thanks for always breaking me, Bluth. Side note: I've been waiting since just before COVID to go see the Broadway version, which was DELAYED this whole time for the aforementioned reason. Supposedly, show is on this month! I am vaxed and ready to sob again!
