There's a Goth couple where I used to live who had had a baby before I left. I was working in a shop and saw them come in with their little girl, her in a black onesie with little skulls on it, them in their black regalia, lots of spikes and chains. The woman at the front of the queue said, "Honestly! How could they impose that- lifestyle- onto their poor child? It'll grow up so confused." They heard her, and they looked so sad. I felt terrible for them. It was a black onesie. Don't all babies wear onesies or playsuits? I forgot to scan a couple of things of theirs, but the baby question reminded me of how sad and sick I felt at such ignorance. If you have a baby, he or she will be the cutest little bat princess/prince.
@HaliaStone7 жыл бұрын
+Xys Hunt Doesn't everyone 'impose' something on their babies they might not want when they grow older, since they can't dress themselves? I was dressed in typical pink and 'girly' stuff, but now I make my own decisions and have been dressing in a Goth style since I was ten (I'm eighteen). Honestly, you did better than me in that situation 'cause I would've said something to that woman! xD It's not her child, so it's not her business.

I only seen baby pictures of me at Christmas, but before I moved from my parent's house, I had only wear stuff from Goodwill. My sisters got to shop for themselves, which was usually goth stuff, especially my oldest. After I moved into my aunt's house, she doesn't let me have goth stuff, but I did find some other clothes cute too, but my taste had always been goth. Unfortunately the rest of the family is against it. Love them always.

I've said this a thousand god damned times throughout my life: If you're not hurting anyone, *who gives a fuck* ? Especially when it comes to a baby in a skull onesie?? Babies don't know shit. They don't even have a concept of object permanence, let alone fashion opinions. Nothing pisses me off more than people so obsessed with attacking normal people with feelings and defending things that don't give a shit in the first place.

‘Impose that lifestyle’ is much more relevant to forcing girls to wear pink to start enforcing gender stereotypes on them. I feel bad for the couple too and am mentally flipping that old woman off for all involved.🖤🖤🖤

My parents are Goths and I was dressed in like red and black until I was a bit older. My Dad refused to dress me in pink. I don't think I wore pink until about maybe 5 or 6 when I started choosing my own clothes a bit more. And for a long time I was pretty girly but around 14 it went full circle and now I've followed my parents footsteps.

Must admit, i have been goth since i was 12, i am now 42, but i always want my daughter to choose her own likes and paths in life, this goes for religion and even her name, i believe letting your own child choose not force your own opinion on them before they can talk... And my daughter has turned out a intelligent, beautiful young lady, not goth and i love her for who she is, not what she looks like or how she is dressed, And I have admired her choices in life without my influence of my beliefs drummed into her tiny brain before she even has a choice. Just my opinion..🖤

I once wore goth shorts or a top with a skull and everyone in my family said "we thought you grew out of this phase" or "don't you think skulls are for teenagers not grown ups?" well before I was 18 I had to were what she choose for me. my aunt was awesome she actually thought the fairy hoodie I got from hot topic for my 24th birthday was wonderful and she bought it for me. my mother's response "oh that's odd your aunt picked this?" "that's strange" all whall wrinkling her nose up all snooty like. my aunt's daughter was pretty much a cookie cutter of my mother and dressed like a 50year old woman when she was 10 till this day. my aunt was the only sweet understand open-minded decent human being out of whole lot. she is to this day the only one to ever care and be cool about my clothing choices. Im not Goth (though people like to call me that) I'm more of 90's rocker more than anything. You know the type the one that always seem high and the one that's obsessed with late 80's and 90's rock and metal. I was mostly influenced by my mum, she was a teen in the 90's and was crazy for rave music and bands like green day, Marilyn Manson, Nirvana, Metallica, bowling for soup etc.. Actually im going to see Marilyn Manson in December this year with her! I would never be the person i am today without my parents being themselves and sharing the things they love with me. I think parents who have kids should influence their kids in what kind of culture their into, gives them something they can bond over and introduces kids into different life styles. My friends still find it weird that my mum drives fast down the back roads listening to rock music full blast but that's what i love about her. Couldn't imagine a world where she didn't act like that, we wouldn't have anything in common!

Hi Black Friday! Your videos are so inspiring to me and I feel like you've made me a lot more comfortable with the entire goth society. Before I came across your channel, I always had the impression that it was some kind of exclusive club where you either go big or go home and that always used to scare me, despite loving so many aspects of it. So I'd like to start with thanking you for that! So now to my question: I really like lots of aspects of the pastel goth style (I've always felt like a cute cupcake doused with poison in the inside) but I think this question can be applied to any subculture. I enjoy the style and the aspects of it look and want to adopt the style as my own, however whenever I try some parts on myself it just doesn't seem right. Does this mean I'm not truly into it? Or is it something I have to get used to and will grow on me? For example, I've dabbled in wearing wigs and whatnot (I cannot commit to dying my hair, I'm scared to bleach it or anything) and I'm just not comfortable seeing myself with the different hair. Is this something I will grow out of if I try it enough, or should I look for something different like actually dying my hair? I'm fine with clothing and makeup, but the look just doesn't seem quite complete without the hair. I look forward to hearing a response, since I'm sure you've got something helpful to say about this. Thank you for being so awesome!

I’m 16 so I still live with my family. My grandma is one of those people who thinks someone with even one tattoo is literally in a gang or does drugs/homeless (she actually said that to me). I’m in my church’s choir as is my grandma. I watched your older QnA where you discussed goth being Christian and I definitely agree with you. I’m afraid to lose my family (I’m very close with my grandma even if she can be offensive at times) when I turn 18... Another topic is getting dressed daily and going shopping with my mom. The other day she made me buy a cream sweater because I wear too much black. I once tried showing her some gothic style Instagram pages I love and she started crying saying that I was being “sucked into” the weirdo alternative cults. How do I tell her I want to cry when I wear brighter colors without her telling me I’m insane??? I feel like I physically can’t leave the house in brighter clothes like the cream sweater she wants me to wear... I mean, I try to compromise and wear burgundy/grey/army green colors.... any advice?? I’m assuming I just need to deal with it until I’m 18.... but what then? What happens when I’m 18 and my family thinks I’ve “fallen for” the alternative “cults”?!! Thanks so much for any advice!🖤🖤🖤

going from deathcore/death to gothic music is quite a big difference yo keep listening, try not to listen to it the same way you listen to death/core. Also, black metal is pretty goth, so is punk. Find your thing.

My advice is don't worry too much about it. Like its good to know the classics for when you go to goth clubs, but all in all don't listen to stuff you don't like. I think it's important to acknowledge the musical roots and everything though.

Hiya Black Friday! I am a newcomer to the world of hair dying and am wondering: Being a natural ginger how often did you have to fix your hair color? I'm a natural dark blonde and just started dying it partially black myself. (Lol love that you love Malice Mizer...I am in love with v-kei groups and Gackt!)
@FelicianoCookie8 жыл бұрын
extending on what i just posted (because damn mobile won't allow me to edit, grr...): was it easier to dye your hair as time went on and did your hair take easier to the color?
@hailey20578 жыл бұрын
+ScarletRavenwing hi, I know I'm not Black Friday but I can answer your questions! 😊 When you dye your hair any color, it damages it. Black isn't bad at all, since it doesn't strip color! It just kind of "coats" the hair strand. But never redye your whole head just to fix your roots. Just dye the roots, it's easier and doesn't damage it as much. Plus, if you try to bleach it after layers and layers of black, it'll take several applications and damage it terribly, from my experience. Hope this helped!
@hailey20578 жыл бұрын
+ScarletRavenwing Also, after you dye your hair, it'll always be easier the times after that, since the strand becomes more porous and the dye soaks in faster. I believe this is the case with black dye as well. But virgin hair (roots) will take differently than the already dyed hair

It's funny because I wear all black every day (I also dye my hair black - I'm naturally blonde), but I don't do make-up. My 'friends' constantly try to push me to wear color, and say things like "you only wear black because you think it's slimming." I'd love to dye my hair red, or purple, and get a lot of amazing piercings, but since I work in the corporate world - I can't.

Cool suggestion here since I saw someone asked about laziness vs doing makeup, also swimming vs makeup. Not much of a thing can be done about hair (though got be brand things are quite waterproof to an extent that I have noticed) but makeup, I have solved this. See, I have gotten makeup tattooed so that I never have to do it. Not the makeup in my profile picture here, that is Mehron Paradise. I have a brown, red and grey smoke done and eyeliner done in tattoos as a time (and lets face it money) saver. It does seem expensive to do but when you really think about how much you spend on makeup that you rarely deviate from in appearance then it really does start to make sense. Also, if you have something that requires you to look "normal" and you are but a weekender then all you need to do is invest in some concealer (which is btw a much cheaper option here) to hide your tattoos, it's very quick and simple. One thing though, if a person is considering getting tattoo makeup done (which is btw different than "permanent" makeup, which is also not actually permanent and only really lasts about 5 years and is about 5x more expensive than tattoo makeup or cosmetic tattoos) then you need to find a tattoo artist who has experience doing very precision work and is willing to order custom pigments for you. Beings how it is sensitive skin, the artist will do a test spot in the pigment you have chosen for free if he/she is reputable, and also if he/she is reputable they will inform you of this necessity as well. Finally, if a person wishes to get this done the most important thing to do is clear your schedule as it will swell and look like you've gotten punched in the face for 1 to 2 weeks. Other than that, its a great idea and I am super happy with mine which I got at Epiphany Tattoo in Aurora, Colorado, USA just in case there are any Coloradans who read this.

Regarding making makeup waterproof for swimming/the beach, look into a product called Green marble seLr setting spray. I have not used it personally, but it is supposed to be the strongest stuff you can get. It is designed for stage makeup to keep makeup in place when sweating on stage under the lights, or dancing an entire ballet or something. There is Blue Marble seLr which is water based and more gentle for an everyday use to prevent makeup smearing on costumes and running from tears or sweat, and Green marble can be harsh on the skin as it is alcohol based (so not for daily use), but I have heard that performers use it for crazy things like getting sprayed with water hoses, and it supposedly keeps the makeup set. Some DRAG Queens swear by it too, especially those who dance and sweat A LOT! There is a water proof sealer that professional body painters use, and I don't know if it is this or something else. I would say normally if you care that much, just forego dunking your head under water, but if it was really important for you to be able to swim and still keep your look, I would look into Green Marble seLr.

About the glitter; NYX Cosmetics recently started selling glitter as well as glitter glue and it's fabulous! I've come to find that it doesn't really make a mess if I apply it with a Q-tip and the glitter doesn't drop into your eyes throughout the day if you use the glue.
