I had a pre-planned c-section due to my health conditions and it went great! (Recovery was horrific though...) I would say out of my friends and family it's been quite split between horror stories and chill planned c-sections. I guess I know a lot of other people with health conditions which might be why the latter is so high. I do know a couple of people who've had the nice water birth experience but it's definitely the minority.

It's definitely not discussed enough how horrifying birth is, even with modern medicine. Majority of births do not go according to plan, And many end up having severe complications that without Western medicine would lead to death or physical trauma to to the child and/or the mother. If you had a non-horrifying we'll planned birth experience, you are in fact the minority, not the majority.

I have had 5 kids. All of them naturally, I absolutely refuse to ever have an epidural! Labor is my favorite part of being pregnant. I get to basically show off how easy it is. I don't make any noise during labor and always stay in control. My 4 boys were all born in a bed, my last labor was in water (2020 and I was sad the family couldn't be there) and I had a girl. I never find out gender before birth with any of my kids. Labor is not a horror and it saddens me when others act like it is traumatic. (My first baby was born when I was 18, doctor induced because he had vacation plans. I was on a pitocin drip, needed an episiotomy, and still never screamed or broke any hands.) Movies and shows give an unrealistic expectation that is is a scary and painful event. All about your mindset!

I'm glad both of you are ok. Congrats on the new member of the family ☺️. I have been following your content for some time and it really makes me happy see all of this and that you share this little bit of your life with us, like I seriously take your word from time to time and it has helped me so much. So I'm a physician, so to say about the difference between what they saw in the scans and when your baby was born, sadly it's somewhat common that it can happen, we can see a very big baby in the scans and on the time of birth get a pretty average percentile baby or in some cases we can see a normal baby in the scans and on the time of birth have to change gears quickly because that baby is so big not even a episiotomy will help. Sadly it can be many factors that can affect the measurements, the principal one is that an ultrasound is a study that's operator dependent, meaning that according to the knowledge and schooling of the technician or radiologist it can vary. Also if the machine it's old or hasn't had a good maintenance it can affect the results. You also had gestational diabetes, that by it self is a factor that can lead to a big baby, adding that you had a hard time getting your glucose on control even when following all of your doctor's orders. So I think this what made them say " ok, the scans say there is a big baby, the mom has GDM, she is going to have a big baby there is no doubt", but what has me little miffed is that knowing and everything"pointing" to a big baby why in the name of Hades they didn't plan accordingly, like it's marvelous that your baby was smaller and you had a "optimal" delivery, but like you had to suffer so much, making me almost sure that even with the epidural you would have still been in pain and suffering for more de 90 minutes the "I can't do this moment". If you decide to have more baby's I hope that you have a better experience, with both momma and baby being healthy and safe. Sending a huge hug from Mexico.

I had my first naturally, was induced with my 2nd for the same reason as you. I had gestational diabetes and all the scans said my baby was off the charts massive. My 36 week growth scan which I had early at 35 weeks, his head was measuring 43 weeks. He came out a completely normal, 7p13oz with a normal sized head. My water broke and I didn't progress so they put me on the drip to start contractions, nothing was happening so they nurses got permission to cranm up the drip super high and it was the most excruciating pain I have ever felt in my life. I felt like I was being tore in half. I wanted to lay down but it hurt more than standing up. My blood pressure completely plummeted and I passed out, a bunch of nurses and drs burst in, threw me on the bed and stuck an oxygen mask on me. I ended up getting an epidural and it was pure bliss, I managed to sleep for a few hours. I tried to push but I couldn't feel a thing and bub ended up turning so he was face up and also was not down far enough on my cervix so I got rushed off for an emergency c section. It was the most horrendous experience and I am pregnant again 😅 I am going straight for a scheduled c section this time, no way in hell am I getting induced again. Congrats on your little guy!

Montrose is a beautiful name -- I had the hardest time trying to think of names for if I had a son, but I did end up having a daughter (her name is Lillia.) When I was pregnant with her, it took a long time to show any sign of going into labor. They told me repeatedly that if I did not start by ~40 weeks, I would be induced. The prospect made me so anxious that I must have willed myself to go into labor, because it happened the morning before I was scheduled. 😅 Woke up with contractions at 5:30 am, and arrived at the hospital at 8:30 at 8cm already. I had time to labor in the room's bathtub, but very suddenly knew that if i stayed in there, that was where the baby would be born -- so I ended up walking across the room and giving birth dripping wet and naked much to the surprise of the medical students I signed off on allowing to watch the birth for educational purposes. 😅 My daughter was born at 10:30am with no issues (though she was also face-up). She was also much smaller than they had predicted. I was very lucky. I am always amazed to hear other peoples' stories.

As a diabetic I know exactly how it felt being pregnant and diabetic. I had to test my blood sugar 7 times a day and had to inject insulin 4 times a day. I was also induced with my daughter (whom you have met with me, she still talks about it lol). I was told she would be 8-8 and a half pounds but she was only 7 pounds 5 ounces. My girl was spine against mine for the first hour and it was horrible, I couldn't even think to ask for pain relief so I did it all without pain relief. She came out with her hand on her head as well so it was a rather nasty tear that took them awhile to stitch up. They told me the next time they were shocked I wasn't taken to the or because I was close to needing a blood transfusion and meanwhile I was just laying there smiling at my daughter, none the wiser lol. I adore the name and the reason behind it. My kids names have meaning behind them as well which makes me love their names even more.

The level of pain from hormone induction is 100x more painful than non-assisted labour. I got to 10cm with my second on my own, and it was so much nicer, but as soon as you add oxytocin etc = extreme unbearable pain

The name is beautiful! I love it! And yes, let yourself have the epidural if there is a next time, you will get over your fears fast because it can be the most immediate and satisfying pain relief and you are still awake and yourself; honestly a miracle. Both my kids were near death experiences for me so I am done : ) Motherhood is no joke.

Sorry to hear you had another rough birth experience. I was induced for both of mine and just like you, refused epidural. They failed to get a drip in me so why would I trust them near my spine?! Although I never got the natural labour to compare it with I am sure it's far more brutal than it needs to be. I actually set my 2nd one up though cos my 1st was overdue and 9lb 11 - they said at all my appointments she was going to be tiny! Probably only because I was 17 - so I 'arranged' for my 2nd to be a couple of weeks early to avoid her getting too big (she was 8lb 5.5 so good call?). No forceps, no ventouse... but I did get retained membranes which led to a vet-shoulder-deep-in-a-cow scenario that still brings tears to the eyes almost a quarter century later. Best wishes to you all xxx

You had me dieing laughing when you said my pain tolerance is pretty high but this is some next level shit... you are not kidding I'm due at the end of June and that pain is the one thing I'm not looking forward too. I do not want the epidural this time either so it's going to be the gas for me as well... thanks for making this video, now I don't feel so alone in my birthing experiences... and inductions suck sorry you haven't been able to experience a natural labor. They are less painful than an induction I was in labor for 36 hours with my first with an induction and pre-eclampsia... worst birthing experience so far... hopefully this delivery isn't like that one.

Oh love, when you said about the anxiety and epidural being a no-go I felt that! My first baby I worked in the surgery unit as a desk clerk and they had to wheel me down to women's in absolute tears because I was freaking out because I was trying to do all these charts and keep track who was going to what cubicle because it was a super busy day with people having surgeries and I couldn't keep track of my contractions and people coming out of the OR. So by the time I got to women's and they finally got an accurate blood pressure (I kept contracting while they were getting the blood pressure) and decided to keep me, I was just done. So I get to my room, my husband is there, I'm so emotionally spent I'm like sure yeah epidural sounds great - except again terrified of needles. I'm 4 ft 11.5 in, and at this point was 48 inches around, so not only can I not touch the floor with the bed the whole way down, I don't have much in the way of positioning myself, and the anesthesiologist who was doing the epidural was maybe 2 inches taller than me and across the bed to do the epidural. He's getting frustrated cause I can't get my back into the position he needs, I'm now freaking out, my husband offered to pull me back across the bed closer, but the anesthesiologist was like no. This is now a 30 minute process, and he ended up having to open a 2nd epidural kit and he finally told my husband yea pull her back towards him (the anesthesiologist). Night went well, got woken up at 5am so they could break my water (I now know what a stuffed turkey feels like at Thanksgiving), and then spent 3 hours from 10am to 1:13pm actively pushing. Because of the epidural I couldn't feel my contractions, so my sister would look at the monitor and tell me when to push. I went from cute polite little human to intense I will beat the snot out of you for looking at me human. Told my husband to shut up, and then my sister got quiet because she thought she should also not talk and I yelled at her to tell me when to push. Nurses put a bar up and gave me a sheet to pull on with my feet up on the bar, husband said I had the sheet so taut he was waiting for it to shred and every vein on my arms looked like I was roid raging. Get all the way to the end, baby is finally on his way out, delivery doctor (who literally is only there to catch at the end) shows up, tells me 3 more pushes, everyone in the room repeats that, and then he goes that's not what I said and everyone else in the room turns on him and is like yeah, you DID. Then he decided he wants the midwife to play catcher and tells ME to WAIT and I just bellow IM NOT WAITING!!! My sister said he gave him a look that said either you catch or I do and the murder you. Deliver Rowan, they put him on my chest, but I can't enjoy him because now they're touching me down below, I had a 2nd degree tear and I'm fighting them as they are trying to examine the damage. They had to knock my ass out to sew me up! It was well worth it in the end. As super round as I was, Rowan was only a tiny 6 lb 13 oz creature, he's 4 now. We are having another in October and I'm hoping the universe will be kind and make this next one an easier labor process 😂. Enjoy your babies, they grow soooo fast and become sassy preschoolers. I'm sorry you guys have had a rough go with travel and housing, but hopefully one day they can be memories that you can chuckle at. Glad to see you are well now! ❤

First off CONGRATULATIONS!! I really do love his name. It's unique and a little gothic. My birth story was similar to yours, except I am actually fully diabetic. I didn't not have the epidural because of my panic as well, but I'm not afraid of needles, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get out of bed. I got induced because my daughter had hydronephrosis. Which is liquid in her kidney that shouldn't be there. At 39 weeks I went in. For hours I was like, this is nothing. Then they broke my water. HOLY FUCK. It went from 20 to 180 as the pain scale. I was begging for that needle, but it was to late. I gave birth to a healthy little girl a few hours later. They put her in my arms and I only got a few minutes with her before I started to feel like shit. The doctor called for help and a moment later five nurses were rushing in and out getting things the doctor ordered as needed. Then they started pushing on my stomach to get me to stop bleeding. I am not a violent person, but I bruised the arm of the nurse who was doing it to me because she didn't warn me she was going to do it and she didn't tell me why she was doing it. I almost punched her, the doctor spared her from it when she finally explained that I was bleeding to much. They took the baby and ushered my husband out of the room. More monitors were strapped to me, I spiked a fever. I got oxygen. I was given more vials of medicine through my IV in my hand than I could count. My blood pressure was stroke level. One of the vials they gave me was pain medicine and it made me violently ill. So I was vomiting and bleeding everywhere. It took about an hour and a half for them to stitch me up and get me to stop bleeding. Eventually they got everything under control and then the shivers started. They tossed a headed blanket, turned off all the lights, closed the curtains and let me calm the fuck down. I was vaguely aware when my husband came back and he told me the baby was alright as he ran his fingers through my hair to help me calm down. Six hours and a private room later I got to hold my daughter again and oh boy did I cry.

@@chrystalteal4171 sounds like you are very fortunate to have had such positive and easy experiences giving birth. Good for you. However, not every pregnancy is the same and many women clearly have had the opposite experience and their experience is just as valid as your experience. In case you're not aware, thousands of women all over the world die giving birth. Maternal mortality has decreased drastically since the age of modern medicine however, it was prevalent prior to the mid-20th century and it is still prevalent in third world countries today. So, history has shown us that giving birth isn't easy for everyone.
