Hi Hannah my partner has recently had a stoma fitted and she has been so shy and lacked all self confidence. We watched this video together and she’s amazed at what lingerie you can buy to help cover the stoma! She’s ordered a fair few things already haha just wanted to say a massive thank you for this video and let you know how much you’ve helped! Keep up the good work xxx

1. Your boyfriend sounds amazing. 2. I wanted to thank you for mentioning, even if briefly, body insecurity. I have Crohn's disease and have insecurity about it, so seeing someone so confident makes me feel so much better. I own lacy underwear so I feel pretty and like I am taking my body back. Thank you. Never change.

Pazzie Anne Knexx I’ve had stomach issues for years and it is only getting worse. I am now on my second GI but so far what I’ve been given has barely helps. From my understanding there’s no conclusive test for Crohns so how did you get that diagnosis? How can I get my doctor to either rule it out or find out if I have it. ;( any input would be greatly appreciated.
@pazzieanneknexx809

Trigger Warning: mention of surgery and blood draws (Please let me know if there are more sensitive subjects and I will add them.) Well, @@xdjbrandonx, the diagnosis was from a combination of colonoscopy and endoscopy results and a hospitalization. I've had a really tough road, but I hope to be better on a new medication I am starting soon, called Stelara. The only difference between Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis (from the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation and my doctor's understanding) is that the disease is specifically in the colon for those with Ulcerative Colitis. This means that removal of the colon (if treatments do not succeed, so as a last-ditch effort) will cure (or come close to curing) the patient of the disease. Unfortunately, as with what happened to Hannah Witton, complications may lead to more surgeries or begin a patient's surgical journey. Crohn's disease is throughout the entire digestive tract, from the esophagus (my doctor referred to this as the "food tube" jokingly) to the rectum. Surgery is usually not performed on Crohn's disease patients because the disease is kind of all over the place so it isn't really worth it. I believe treatments focus mainly on calming and healing inflammation and damage control of sorts of the disease. Please be sure to be informed about and tested for these and other digestive or autoimmune issues, such as Celiac's, lactose intolerance, and others. Doctors can do tests, but you must be willing to be in a little bit of pain or uncomfortable for the process to happen the way it needs to. I am recovering from my third endoscopy and colonoscopy which followed a three-day clean out at the time of writing this comment and have experienced many blood draws and had to provide stool samples. Very few people talk about the brutal or gross side of the process unless we are amongst others who understand, but I feel it is important to be honest with those who seek treatment. It can be Hell sometimes, but it will all be worth it when you reach remission or close to it. And I did! For a couple weeks! I was pain free for a few weeks and I couldn't have been happier! That keeps me going: remission is close. Just keep fighting for it.

My dad has Chrons, and when I was young they removed a third of his bowels through surgery, and he has a colonoscopy/endoscopy check up yearly. After ten years, he's now in remission for the first time. It can be brutal, but there are definitely people out there who understand and will help in any way they can

I also have a stoma, and medical personal don't mention much about sex, so videos like this about peoples personal experiences have been amazing for me in the last couple of years. For me I've had interesting experiences, when I first had surgery I was with someone, so it was just an adjustment period. But that relationship ended. So I have now also experienced dating with a stoma and navigating sex with a new partner. Thankfully he is very much like your Dan. I've offered to wear 'bands' or covers, like the one you showed, our first time and even afterwards but he never had a problem with it being covered or not (But the choice of wearing them is entirely up to each person, so I don't feel like I really need to wear them, but other people might want to, they are kinda just another lingerie item basically). My stoma has made noise, and I've been embarrassed and apologized and he's reassured me that its a natural function, it doesn't bother him, I have no control over it, etc.. He has been really sweet about it really, and depending on the position it doesn't matter much to us if it flaps about (I sometimes do shorten mine like you did tho). Just do whatever is comfortable and pleasurable to you, just like you should do when it comes to sex.

As a guy who had a stoma for a few years something they warned me about before my surgeries was that any surgery in that area could cause erectile dysfunction due to the potential of nerve damage. In practice though I'd change bags before any thing and I'd also were one of those waist support bands to help keep things from moving that shouldn't be. Having an understanding partner goes a long way in helping one feel comfortable with themselves and especially in something as intimate as sex that goes a long way.

Hi Hannah, I think prior to your videos on the subject, life with a stoma was steeped in fear and secrecy. I can't praise you enough for speaking so openly about the subject. You do so much good with these videos. I'm sure people felt comfortable asking you about sex with a stoma because you talk so openly and without embarrassment about this and other sensitive subjects, this in turn has a positive affect on others, who no longer feel embarrassed. 🙂

My boyfriend has a stoma but I think it's probably more difficult for people who identify as male because they don't have as many options with things like sexy underwear to try and disguise the bag. My boyfriend already had his stoma when we got together but it took him some time before he felt comfortable with it around me. I've just always been very patient (it genuinely doesn't bother me because I love him as a person). The first few times we had sex he was very conscious about it and we had to stop a couple of times, but I just gave him lots of reassurance that it was ok and I still found him sexy and I wasn't in any rush. Now we don't have any trouble. Like you said, he always empties his bag beforehand but I don't really find that it interrupts the mood or anything. In fact, as a woman, I sometimes find that his bag is well placed to stimulate certain areas during penetration 😉 Thanks for talking about this topic Hannah. When I first met my boyfriend I too researched about sex with a stoma (I wanted to make sure I didn't do anything that might compromise the bag) and found little information. If possible I would like to hear a male perspective on it if you had any friends who identify as male and would be willing to talk about it on your channel.

XthecadburykidX although I don’t think we should be saying who has it worse, it’s just something all genders have to deal with and in their own way. On the flip side a woman will look past a stoma bag well before a man would. Many “men” can’t even handle the fact that women poop lol.
@XthecadburykidX
@XthecadburykidX 5 жыл бұрын
Brandon I didn't intend to portray that having a stoma was harder for people who identify as male, that was not my intention. However it may be harder for people who identify as male to be comfortable with it in an intimate situation. Lingerie is widely available to people who identify as female and is much easier to utilise, whereas options are limited for people who identify as male and they are forced to have their bag on show (though I'm not saying that this bothers, or should be an issue for, everyone). I do agree with you about women accepting it more than men though. I'm pretty sure I was comfortable with my boyfriends bag long before he was comfortable having it on show around me. And I will also admit that I am still uncomfortable with the idea of pooping in the vicinity of my boyfriend 😂

You are such a brave and strong woman Hannah! I can only imagine how difficult it is to talk about such intimate things, especially after such a drastic change, and share it with thousands of people... I've been watching your videos for so long that I sometimes forget that it's actually not the most normal thing in the world to share such intimate details with everyone (let alone the pressure of everyone also actively asking for it). I am so thankful that by creating your channel and your videos, you decided to sacrifice a part of your own privacy to live your message of open and honest communication concerning "taboo" subjects. Just know that you always have the right not to share (even if it's easy to forget that when it comes to social media). Your own health and especially mental health always come first. And I can only guess how rewarding but also how hard it can be sometimes to be the person everyone turns to with their intimate questions. I appreciate your openness so much Hannah! Thank you so much for your great work and I wish you all the best! Lots of love from Germany

I’m sorry but I can’t be the only one who thinks these questions are a little rude? I mean “how can he stay supportive to you?” comes off as if she is a burden to him and that’s not how loving relationships work. He is a great guy for supporting her and staying by her side but let’s not forget that its hannah that has to deal with most of the negative effects of -her- illness.
@jell1384
@jell1384 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Taylen, probably it came off more rude than I meant to, since I'm not a native English speaker. I just mean that everyone is applauding Dan for being such a supportive boyfriend, which he really seems to be from our knowledge, but I was just wondering how it is for him since he has to cope with the change too and maybe it has been a traumatic event for him too. Sure, Hannah has to deal with it the most, but I am sure as a concerned partner he has to find ways to deal with it too. So I was just saying that to me, it would seem interesting to see how it is for him. But ofcourse these are very personal topics and I would totally understand if there never was a video dealing with that.
@ItIsEllieTheElephant
@ItIsEllieTheElephant 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Taylen. Of course Hannah is the one who has to deal with all the negative side effects of her illness, it's fantastic that she is able to talk openly about such a personal subject to help her viewers understand her illness. I think what Jell meant is that it would be interesting to hear what Dan has to say as it might help partners of people who have a stoma understand how they can be supportive or help them understand it better. I don't think it's rude to be curious about his perspective, but I completely understand if he didn't want to answer the personal questions and he is definitely not obliged to do so.

I’m currently wearing the bag to trial where they’ve marked it to my belt line. Want to say a huge thank you - it’s been a big help, to support the stoma nurse teams information. I have Crohn's and even though I don't have a stoma (I'm on immunosuppressants instead atm), watching your video's about your stoma kind of make me less worried about possibly having to have a stoma in the future. So thank you, it's really comforting to have people like you openly talking about IDB and things we experience. It makes me feel less alone and scared.

I just found your channel in the list 6 months and I'm watching through a lot of your content chronologically (at this time hace not seen anything more recent that this). Hearing your story about how he sometimes falls asleep with his hand on it made me get chills, it really is a beautiful sign of intimacy and comfort outside of sexual intimacy and I love him for that ❤

I don't have a stoma, but since being in a relationship I have gained weight, mainly around my tummy and waist, so even though it's different, I feel you with the reassurance thing! I feel less attractive than I did a few years ago, but thankfully he is so reassuring and still loves me and looks at me in that way where you know they love you... I'll shut up now, I don't feel like I have any place in this conversation.
@NechamaGluck

ZophieWithAZ You absolutely have a place in this conversation :) I've talked with a lot of women who have stomas (I have one myself) and one of the main fears with sex or intimacy is that a partner wont find them appealing or attractive or sexy with a stoma. With or without a stoma body insecurity is something that almost all women struggle with at some point or another, so your perspective is very pertinent!

The bag "system" I used was similar to yours. Emptying the bag just before is a must but, if available, just a small "cover" bag removes most of the mass of the larger bag for those "sexy times". I also wished I had found the intimacy wrap when I had an ostomy. I always wore loose fitting pants or sweats, but still had a few accidents. When I went to have my ostomy reversed no one told me about atrophied sphincter mussels. I had to teach myself Kegels and eventually was able to get a reversal. I love your Channel! PLEASE keep up the good work!

My girlfriend has a stoma and she has a rectum and we have had anal sex but there needs to be some "prep" before hand aka clearing some of that weird mucus stuff out before inserson, but over all it's been alright but she does say it hurts (when I go deep) where she is like sealed up at the top if that makes sense.

Floodlime It's what our bodies naturally produce but with stomas there is nothing to lubricate. So it's much more obvious then.
@soulseek2

@pandaBTF i think it has less to do with lubrication but with the fact that it is not regularly flushed like it is with a working colon so it builds up

I just discovered your channel, and honestly I can't stop watching your videos. I love your personality and openness about "forbidden" topics. Also, I'm amazed about your Stoma experience. This is the first time I hear about the condition and it kinda reminds me about the time I was diagnosed with Herpes. I know it's a different condition. But throught the first year, I had to do adapt to a new lifestyle, specially for my sex life. I can now openly talk about it, and let people know that's not the end of the world it's a matter of acceptance. Anywho, honestly you're amazing. Wish you the best from Puerto Rico. 🇵🇷
